I didn't pick up my cat for the sole purpose of taking a photo with him, it was a disciplinary snuggle because he kept interrupting my outfit shots by trying to claw the shit outta my underskirt.

Most recent coordinate, the mismatched white and ivory piss me off but I don't have any ivory blouses so what can you do.

Looks good. One of the biggest thing I see cosplayer's overlook is eyebrows. If you don't want to shape them or fill them in, that's understandable. If you have a bit of a skill, you could do the trick where you put stick glue on and then foundation, and then draw the eyebrows on. Imo eyebrows are a great finishing touch for either gender. I think you could also pull off a makeup look similar to pic related (but a bit more toned down to fit Kiba perhaps), or have a female friend help you out.
Honestly though, even with out doing all the makeup shit I recommended you look good as is, I'm just being nitpicky

I got it tailored, so it suits me perfectly! The cloth I bought was two way stretch leather spandex and it was measured tight to make sure that it wrapped around my body well. I don't think the swim elastic was needed for my leg holes cause it doesn't cup my butt, if that makes sense.

Anon from pic here. Like I said, i'm fairly new so any kind of crit is welcome. Of course I wouldn't follow it blindly, it depends on the suggestions I'm getting.

For example, I wouldn't use a larger bow since my hair isn't voluminous enough and I don't do wigs, but a pink bow of the same size would show up more against my hair, or maybe one of those plastic headbands since i'm planning to get a plastic bracelet anyways.

Nothing wrong with adding wristwear though. Not saying that wristwear is 100% mandatory, especially for everyday looks but it's something I could look into.

I don't mind my shoes either, I have a gothic face and and an all over gothic vibe, so I think the shoes really work for me specifically. I'm still open for suggestions and new ideas because I just haven't been wearing the fashion for that long and don't have any contact with other lolitas that could give me feedback.

Thanks, I appreciate it! It's been a lot of work, but I can see real, tangible, improvements in the quality of my work. The most major thing I did was make a completely new helmet. Here's a comparison of before (left) and after (right). These are all in situ con pictures, so the angle isn't perfect, but they illustrate the major differences. From the perspective of moving from old to new, even though there are no reused pieces between them:

The whole helmet is about 15% smaller, which is a significant difference.
The fit between the visor and the skull bowl is much tighter. This angle doesn't show it that well, but the roll on the edge of the visor is touching the skull bowl at the lowest three flutes on each side.
The ocularium (eye slit) is now much narrower and runs parallel to the curve made by the top of the ventail. This was probably the most critical improvement made towards the appearance.
I've added a roll to the edge of the metal around the ocularium for greater strength and to mesh visually with the detail on the top of the visor.
The part of the visor that mates with the top of the ventail is now perfectly flat instead of concave. It is now visible at normal viewing angles instead of being hidden by the ventail.
The ventail mates with the bevor much higher so that it no longer occludes the chin detail on the bevor.

Use a stencil/tape off areas before you paint your fabrics so you can get sharper edges

So at Otakuthon I made my first real costume and it had some flaws. I was curious, for the necklace and the broach on the waist what could I make them out of? I was constantly hotgluing it back together because everytime I sat or a kid would hug me they were breaking. I made the necklace out of circle rings wrapped in aluminum foil then clay and baked sealed with modpodge. the broach was done with wire, hoops and AF, MP and clay. But the broach by the third day had at least 6 cracks and the necklace broke in half.

Also for the bow I did the tops [yes i know i did them the wrong way] as uhh- Styrofoam. Was there something better?

Lastly any suggestions for how to keep the hood on my head? It was constantly being pulled backwards and exposing my wigcap and unfort there are tons of pictures floating with me wigcap exposed and no one telling me. ugh.

Anyway, any crit/advice for my first costume would help.

Four more days till I leave for a con, and I haven't sewn the tops yet. Hopefully I have time after work tonight, after I spray a coat or two of krylon uv-resistant matte.

I not entirely sure what the fabric is actually, its a polyester blend of some description haha. I really liked the subtle texture of it though. The gold is a pleather applique.

Well here's how that thing goes.

It's not as simple as being "a special snowflake though" It feels a bit like a micro agression for lack of a better term

As a black person there is a small handful of characters I can cosplay in that are my race. So to be able to do most coplays I want to it's something I have to do. Like you say that like black people are doing this like it was a conscious choice like gender bending a character.

As kid the first time I saw myself on tv was static shock. I know that doesn't seem important now but let me explain. I think representation is something you don't see the importance of until you see the lack there of it for yourself. There's not a not of characters of color out there, plan and simple.

So I'm not gonna lie it does hurt a bit when I see white people cosplaying as characters of color becuase, white people have tons of other cosplays you can do, it just feels kind like "Hey remember you guys don't have shit, not even the characters made for you"

It just feels a bit disrespectful and I wish I could explain it better

Like I'd lose my shit if I saw a white girl cosplaying as princess Tiana or any of the princesses of color

I'm not attacking you anon, I'd just like to share my thoughts and your cosplay is quite nice desu

Hawt. My only nitpick is to work on the front of the wig a little more so the hairline isn't so obviously that of a wig. Then again it's a Halloween costume, so it's totally not critical that it ever gets done.

A few rhetorical questions: I'm mixed race, but also light-skinned and white-passing despite being darker than most white people. I like Pharah and am part Egyptian. I like Michiko Malandro and Nilin Wells who are mixed. I'm not naturally as dark as any of them, so am I not allowed to cosplay them even though I share ethnicity? They are my own representation, yet because of this "whitewashing" discourse I feel nervous about wanting to cosplay them.

Symmetra in Indian, not black. She's also fairly dark-skinned compared to most Desi girls I've seen. So is an olive-skinned or a white-passing Desi person not allowed to cosplay her?

She's canonically on the Autism spectrum. If it's about representation of minority groups and people who aren't part of the represented group are essentially doing a disservice to people who are by taking characters designed to represent them, does this mean that neurotypical people also can't cosplay Symmetra?

I'm against blackfacing and I'm on the fence about non-black people cosplaying 100% black characters (not '''brown''' ambiguously or ethnically, or mixed) but you open a whole can of worms when you start getting upset about "whitewashing"- especially when it comes to nonblack PoC or "ambiguously tan" characters.

Call me old fashioned but I got into cosplay when people chose characters based on how much they enjoyed them. These were the days when nearly every Japanese title had a tan character of no defined ethnicity and white people still cosplayed them (sans brownface)- Ed, Aisha, Casca, etc.

So imo people should be able to cosplay the characters they enjoy so long as they don't black/brownface. If you're bothered by a white or white-passing person not matching the skin colour of their character, that's on you, not them. Just because someone is personally bothered by something does not grant them the right to tell someone not to do something that is, in the grand scheme of things, 100% harmless.

>Holy shit, fucking nice!! Perfect job, the golden pattern on the tabard is ace. I'd suggest sanding/wearing down the edges of the leg belt.

Thanks, embroidering the heraldry on the tabard was a pain, but I think it paid off. I dumped the texture files from the game for the reference pattern, but had to recreate them by hand to make them work on a flat surface. The actual embroidery itself was done by a machine following this pattern. Here's a (sort of bad) picture of me between poses, that captures the majority of the heraldry.

You've actually pinned one thing I hadn't finished. I was planning on adding metal tips to the belts, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I hadn't thought to weather the belts any, but I can see how that could be a significant improvement. Thanks!

I actually haven't done any intentional weathering on this costume. Mostly I let it beat itself up as I wear it and don't do virtually any preventative maintenance. This is Dark Souls after all. I figure some rust stains just make it look a bit more authentic.

My first guess without reading your post was that it was Haifuri so you get a passing grade at least. You should make the twintails pop out a lot more and cut your bangs in the middle.
Skirt should be higher up on your body, a direct frontal picture should have your shirt just-about reaching the skirt when you're standing normally, though it might be too short for that altogether.

You don't have to be exact but if it's 70% or more of the character and you get it wrong it'll look terrible. This goes for anything, even "shallow" things like giant oppai or being very petite. Still large busted and just average height is fine, but having a c-cup for a headsized tits character or being overweight and 6' for child just looks really off. Just as bad as inaccurate wigs and colors imo.

That being said idgaf if they're just doing it for fun or like the character. It makes me happy that they'll do it despite that even in a way t.bh. It's just when they're trying be "professional" or complaining about the lack of pics.

Okay so real talk, we had a very awkward teenage (maybe 20-21 at most) MTF come into my work a few weeks ago. MTF is talking to my coworker S (a woman) for a while and then goes "So when do you start to feel comfortable in your body?"

This MTF thought my coworker was also MTF and I suppose that's why she was so preoccupied with S. Still it was absolutely bizarre because S looks like a woman from a mile away. Her face is very feminine and she's curvy, and I mean stereotypical wide hips, smaller waist, and proportional breasts. MTFs don't carry weight like that without surgery.

It was really strange and I guess goes to show how teens don't quite get how bodies work.

Also fuck off.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand how to coord Misty Sky. The print is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of color theory most of the things you try to put with it will go over a typical seagulls head. There's also Angelic Prettys nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into the print design- their company philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. A true lolita will understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of the dress, to realise that it's not just another print- it says something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Misty Sky truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the elegance in pairing a heart bag, which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenevs Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Angelic Pretty's genius wit unfolds itself on their computer screens. What fools.. how I pity them.

And yes, by the way, i DO have an AP tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. Its for my comms eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid

Finished my suit, boob armor, and put together my mech arms.
Really happy with how they turned out and how secure they are on my arms; albeit 3lbs of plastic on each of my arms.
I'm running out of worbla and time though and im debating nixxing my shoe-armor for now since it's the only thing I haven't prototyped yet and theres only 2 weeks left til youma.
