Kamijo's birthday event was pretty fun! The first band was absolute shit, but everything after that was enjoyable.

During Kamijo's solo performance he managed to break his in-ear monitor. At least I think that's what happened given his frantic pointing. They had to stop for about 15-20 minutes to fix that lol. He looked pissed. A poor roadie definitely got chewed out from the daggers he was staring into him.

Comparing Matenrou Opera to Versailles...it's surprising. Matenrou has the better stage presence. I've been a fan of both since they started, but didn't get a chance to see Versailles live with their current lineup.

The cake ceremony was cute too. Fuck Tokyo metro for only running until 00:15 though. I almost missed my last train.

Am I the only one who thinks it's a bit creepy to cosplay Visual Kei artists? I understand you're their fan and all but dressing up like them is sort of strange to me.

I think it's strange to cosplay real people in general, you usually put a lot more effort into a cosplay vs your average person who buys halloween mask of a president/insertrandomgenericfamouspersonhere.

I don't think I'd consider Kurara to be Oshare, but I've heard them before as well. (Kiryu is my favorite band, so I may or may not have done some snooping on all the member's past bands. Whoops.)

Hmm.. I think it would be creepy to cosplay them in just a casual outfit or something, but I think it's okay to cosplay an outfit from their official looks. The outfits are almost always super cool looking, I can't blame people for wanting to cosplay them. (Then again, maybe I'm biased, since I've done VK group cosplays before.)

I actually wasn't aware the Kiryu guys are the ex-mizeria/kurara ones. Cool. I really liked the Mizeria vocalist too, but I haven't heard his other bands.
If you liked Parfait, I recommend checking out SyvaR, the band most of the members were in before Parfait.
It's less oshare and more gothic though. IMO one huge underrated band. I wish they continued in this direction rather than what they did in Parfait, but both bands are still good.

Shape Shifter was really good! Out of all of the bands that were there that I had never heard before, which was the first one, David, ベル, Shape Shifter, and Purple Stone, them and Purple Stone were the most enjoyable.

David was okay, I felt there was a disconnect between the vocals and the music. Like if they had been two separate bands it would have worked lol. I don't know what Kamijo's plans are with him, but Sui was very talkative and seemed like good friends with Kamijo.

Usually japanese don't share music or videos, but they can share pictures.
I've been following this twitter for years, there's always new content everyday. It's mostly old school VK but also some newer stuff.

My first response was to say they are fun, but that doesn't apply to everyone lol. I suppose I like the rougher and raw-ish sound, but they aren't always crazy and the studio versions can be pretty clean. They have good energy and I always get into the songs. Yumeleep (ユメリープ) is incredibly good, I really like the vocalist, but I think maybe they're not for everyone? Definitely recommend giving them a listen though. Recently one of their guitarists, Kaguya, came down sick and has taken a break from the band.

I feel like neither of you are really exploring visual kei. While there are many bands that are incredibly similar to each other, theres a ton that aren't like that.
This is coming from someone who has been into visual kei for years, and has heard and seen hundreds of bands, but never had a problem getting them confused.
Some bands tend to take aesthetics from other bands when they're first starting out (When Londboy started up, lots of people thought it was a ripoff of Royz. Pic related. I can slightly see the similarity, but not much? This is from their early days.) but eventually turn it into their own thing.
Just my 2 cents. Of course many bandmen look similar or even the same, but a majority don't, so I think it's not fair to say "all" or "almost all".

Makeup, maybe, but even then it's pretty easy to tell one band member from another for me.

I can definitely see Setsuna and Tsuzuku looking alike, actually. But I think its their facial structure being similar, rather than makeup, pic related. Hair colors, makeup is totally different but their bone structure is very similar.

I dont think its creepy if its well done. But one thing I do notice with people who cosplay VK is that they skip the make up. If your going to cosplay VK a big part of it is the make up. Please at least try and do it. Dont just skip it.

That's pretty cool, I remember Hora remixed Közi's "ISM" song for the remix album. Pretty cool version of the song.
I kind of wish he would release a 3rd solo album, I really love his solo works. I like XA-VAT and ZIZ too, but Közi having complete freedom on composition and production is better IMO.

This. Cosplaying them in their official looks is ok because the outfits, hair and make up are pretty much a costume for them as well, their "stage persona" or even a "character" they play. Plus besides looking awesome, replicating those looks can be as hard as replicating an anime character's ones.
Is no different from people dressing as Gene Simmons's Demon.
Now, a "casual x cosplay"? that shit is not cosplay. It doesn't work, like a "casual Gene Simmons" cosplay wouldn't work.
That's when things start getting creepy as fuck, and into roleplaying territory.
How can it be a cosplay if you are dressing in casual clothes? There is nothing special or unique that makes the conection to the guy you are "cosplaying as", you are someone in casual clothes and that's what people will see, not your favorite artist.
Do you like their casual looks so much you want to dress like that? Even get the same hairstyle? Do it, but don't take selfies and claim is a cosplay. Is not.

this is true. Oshare kei to us in the west would be An cafe and that's not actually oshare kei. In Japan Plastic tree would be more oshare kei since their music and looks are more trendy and fashionable. Bands like An cafe and other overly cutesy stuff doesn't really have determined name in Japan but I heard some people refer to it as kira kira bands on tanuki.

If the story about Kami's death and funeral are true, there's no way Gackt would ever consider performing with Malice Mizer again or Mana and Kozi wanting him to perform with them. Why would Mana ask Klaha over Tetsu? He seemed like a nice humble guy, but there was nothing special about him. When it came to vocals, Tetsu was passionate and Gackt was amazing. Klaha didn't have much power behind his voice and didn't have much of a presence on stage...

Tetsu was the best lyricist of Malice Mizer, and an awesome vocalist in his own way. If you think Tetsu sounds bad, you're just not used to listening to much goth rock and post-punk, I'm afraid.
Have you ever heard Gackt trying to sing Tetsu songs? They're on youtube and it's laughable.
The only Tetsu songs Gackt was able to sing well were the studio-recorded ones (ma cherie, shi no buto, tsuioku no kakera, etc), but that was because mana and kozi did the correspondent key changes so Gaku could sing them, but still I prefer Tetsu's Ma cherie over Gackt's.

Gackt's always claimed he's had some kind of supernatural sixth sense due to him almost dying as a child. He likely felt something was wrong but hindsight is 20/20 and all that. He could have known something felt odd but I doubt he actually knew Kami died because otherwise he would have attended the funeral. I mean the man makes yearly visits to his grave and visits Kami's parents.

Its just a rumor, but from what I heard Iori cheated on his wife with a fan, the fan posted about it on Tanuki and it got back to the wife. After the fans found out they threw trash at him when he was on stage. So they decided it was easier to disband

pleur was the band that kinda started the whole "cosplay kei" thing, somewhat predated by Da'vid/shito:aL as well (these lion outfits).
The first proper cosplay visual band who identified themselves as such and were pretty obvious about the references to the subculture was Psycho le Cému, but it's no doubt pleur were a pioneers, sort of a proto-cosplay band, but they were more like their own thing.
That poor bassists who had to stay inside the chicken outfit though. Imagine the heat inside that thing during concerts.
