newfag here, so I apologize in advance

I think I might be interested in this, but I'm not sure.

I'm not a fan of the whole "pure maiden" look, yet I do like the fun socks, bright colors and 1960s look I get from some photos I see. A lot of these outfits seem to be in muted colors, are there any brighter examples outside of what I see in the OP or is that just rarely a thing in this fashion

Honestly at some point you're paying more for the idea and the design that someone else came up with. I suppose there's a little bit of buying into the brand, especially if you've loved every single look they produce. You could probably DIY most of the accessories yourself, but if you want the designers to continue making them sometimes you gotta show a little support with your wallet.

I agree with you, I think it's fine to buy into an idea/design. It just creates a decent amount of cognitive dissonance (at least for me) to realize that they're not using better materials or better sources for something that's at a relatively premium price point.

And I'm not even interested in the DIY aspect or anything, it's really more like, I had hoped for better.

I agree with you to a point. It's fine to buy into a simple idea or design, but only as long as the execution is good. Even moreso if it is a simpler design like >>9559755. Mary Magdalene's headdresses for comparison are very simply designed, particularly their floral corsages, but the design details are on point, use relatively expensive looking lace, and feel sturdy to use. JM can be a little hit and miss with their accessories, which is why I'm also a little leery of buying their things at points.

What do you think of Q-Pot and their new clothing releases? This is called Strawberry Fields and you can just purchase it from the international site. Has anyone bought it? I'd like to get the Strawberry Drop cardigan if I get the chance.

It comes off really otome to me, but I don't know anything about the quality of it. I know Q-Pot has a good track record with some of their other clothing items they've released, though.

It seems very sweet ETC-like and otome feeling in terms of designs and how casual it is. The cardigans are also really cute and could work well in otome or possibly even lolita.

Wow, if you hadn't told me this is Qpot I would have guessed JM. The main collage worries me, though, I hope it's just the colour balance that's washing out the print and they aren't actually faded-looking irl.

I think the long cardi >>9564978 >>9564980 is a normie trend that's going around, I'm so glad that at least one other person agrees with me it's weird-looking and funky. Some of my non lolita non otome friends are scouring local clothes shops looking for it and I cannot understand the appeal. I imagine as a housecoat it's nice and warm and comfy and blanket-like, but I can't even think about leaving the house in it, let alone wearing it as a fashion trend.

It's actually not their first foray into clothing exactly, last summer they did yukata sets. Although I suppose even the yukata sets were marketed as "special" and not a common item.

But yeah, the pricing put me off the yukata last year.... I might see if I can find it secondhand and check out the quality. I think it can't really be that bad, qpot is a bit of a premium brand, so they have a reputation to maintain.

Oh, didn't know that. Thanks for the info. I mean, if the yukata fabric is really good or something, but most yukatas I've encountered at like the 5000-15000 yen levels have been solid quality so I dunno how that'd translate into their current clothing releases.

I think the little curly Q-Pot emblem around the stem of the strawberries is really cleverly hidden. It's nice to have simple strawberry prints every now and then.

That being said, I feel like Q-Pot really wants a nice "safe" release for their first clothing collection. That's the impression I get from a simple strawberry print during summer. Sweet lolita brands do this almost every spring/summer as well since it's a signature print of the season.

>> No.9566772

I just googled how otome kei started and I don't know where people were getting it from that it was/is a seperate style from lolita? The sources that seem to have introduced otome kei to the lolita community (tsu_ basically) even say that people called it lolita in the west and in Japan.
Not trying to shit on anyone who likes using the term, I come to these threads because I love the style. Are there any better sources than the early posts on lolita indies?

>> No.9566840

>>9565806

Actually that's the quality I sort of expect, most of the money probably goes into the branding rather than the fabric.

But at the same time, it's usually going to be better than Daiso-tier goods, and the fabric should at least be better than the 1-2k yen level yukatas. I hope. Saying this as someone who hasn't actually found one to buy yet. I think I missed yukata resale season.

>> No.9566845

Someone in one of the other threads posted a link to a bunch of articles about otome culture, but I didn't save them. Hopefully another anon paid better attention and can direct you to them, or I suppose you can go digging for them. It's a bit hard to find because it wasn't posted in the otome kei threads.

And anyway, it seems that most girls have agreed that even if it isn't a seperate style, it looks distinctly different enough from lolita that it's easier to give it a name and treat it as a seperate style.

Is Takemoto Novala also popular with girls who wear otome kei? I read somewhere he popularized the word otome with his writing, similar to how he popularized lolita with the film.

I can't think of a 100% match, but I really want to pair that cheese round with the Flower Card dress. Always wondered why this dress had random spoons on it when it's called Flower Card and not sugared flowers print, now I can tell people it's for eating the cheese with.
