Honestly, if you know any friends that have amazing wigs themselves, they're usually down for a commission and you get the benefit of a friend's attention to detail and a discount maybe, haha.

Advice on keeping this momstrosity upright? My friend who mohawks her own hair use sugar water, but I'm not sure if that would mesh well with a plastic wig.

It's difficult to mimic a buzz cut with just wefts because you have to cut them so short you'll end up exposing the netting. The only other ways I've seen to do this are with flocking (expensive equipment) or fake fur (doesn't look quite right). This doesn't look quite right either but you have limited options if you want the hair that short.

I had about 5 Lucaille wigs come in a few weeks ago. Some are absolutely gorgeous, thick, and matte. I got two of their lolita wigs for the fun of it, and they were pretty shitty quality. Easy to brush, but a little on the thin side. Another wig I got was thick and long, but surprisingly thin at the cap and super shiny. So YMMV when it comes to quality.

>> No.9524981

>>9524422
Lucaille wigs are quite soft and silky and don't tangle much at all. I have a couple of fashion wigs and a couple cosplay ones from them too. They come with little quarter-sized skin tops where appropriate. Some of them are on the thinner side, but not so thin that wefts are showing (e.g. wavy lolita wig, as opposed to a heavy Bodyline monster I own). The straight ones I've noticed are a little bit shinier than the wavy ones but it's not too bad.

I've only had problems with one wig so far - curly blonde, a little too yellow compared to stock photos, and tangled like a motherfucker. I know that a handful of wigs I looked at had a disclaimer that it's not manufactured by them, and that they're not responsible for the quality, idk if that was one of them.

Still, that's one out of the six wigs I purchased in total, and I've been happy with the rest.

Has anyone ever bought a wig from arda-wigs? They look decent enough but this $30 price tag makes me think it's going to be shit.
Also how would I go about straightening a wig to get rid of any waves (and not fucking it up)?

>> No.9528778

>>9528760
Arda wigs apparently are heat resistant enough to a certain temperature, so you can use flat irons on them. I'd follow the temperature guidelines on their website.

As for the actual wig, the colors are really impure (lots of gradient) and there's lots of little fly-aways in them that aren't sewn in, or sewn in hard enough. They are GREAT when you need specific colors, and I end up using them a lot, but wigsmiths be warned they aren't that great. Buying an Arda wig isn't going to magically get you instagram likes and great cosplay photos, and people who obsess over brando forget this.

>> No.9529013

>>9528760
>but wigsmiths be warned they aren't that great

Disagree. They're one of the best bases to use for spiking or teasing because of the fiber texture. They're also one of the only companies that sells weird color wefts that are all one length (vs the length variety you get when harvesting wefts).

If you need a long wig though, look elsewhere.

Dude Arda is one of the most recommended wig sites. I'm guessing you're new.
Yes they're credible, but some tips about their wigs:
- They're best for heavy styling
- They're stupidly thick, even the short simple styles are crazy thick
- The long+straight wigs tangle really easily, I honestly wouldn't recommend them if you need a wig like this
- Check the Flickr Gallery for what certain colors look like under various lighting

I have more of a problem with the entire thing splitting and somewhat leaning and bending. I'm going to be working with foamcores in the future, but decided not to go with it for this particular projects for a few different reasons. If I did install one it might help reduce imbalance and tilting/bending, but it probably wouldn't help splitting.

I'll probably try and invest some more hours in making it a bit more uniform, hopefully a more through attack on it will make it less prone to splitting/bending.

>>9530442
I made wefts of the long hair off the sides I didn't need and sewed two wefts between each existing one, then just trimmed and used high heat on a blowdryer to lay them flat. It works, snd you could probably just buy wefts if you don't want to hassle with DIY-ing it/your wig is too short.

Mohawk anon upthread; that wig is from WIF.

I have three more wigs from them; one long, curly lace front, one semi-long and wavy, and one short, generic anime cut.

I absolutely love their fibers, which work great for long wigs and still take styling pretty well. Especially heat-styling they take great. Colour seems mostly fine (a bit solid in tone maybe) but getting a specific nuance can be a hassle and I definitely wish they had a better system for sorting their wigs and colours. Their lace fronts are good, much better hairlines than Arda, which tend to be too harsh a line if unmodified (IMO), however I do have some issues with the construction of the wigs; my short wig is incredibly unevenly sewn which really shows when it's short. It leads to a really awkward thickness at the crown (forehead, particularly) while the back is almost kind of thin. Not sure if this is a bad wig or if it's a wider problem.

Anyway, would 100% recommend for especially long lacefronts.

You are pissing yourself because you assumed that >>9535299 was referring to $100 in labor alone. That is clearly not the case. The original anon can correct me if I'm wrong obviously but it seems clear that doubling the cost quote to include material costs means you pay $50 in labor and then $50 in material costs (aka base wig, glue). Aka your final quote to the customer for EVERYTHING is *double* the labor. There is no "additional" wig here so I do no understand what you are talking about.

Maybe you are confused over the second part of OP's post that says
>Would add some more for effort, and less material cost if the customer provides you the materials.
Which is a totally different price quote if YOU are buying the wig separately. I am the $15/hour anon and I agree with this, because if a client sends me a thinner, cheaper wig to work with, I am going to spend longer working with it.

Yeah but your hair is free, you're only paying for labor. As another anon mentioned, haircuts take less than an hour.
With a wig commission, you're paying for the wig + shipping + hours of styling. Hence the price tag.
Although I don't think anyone would pay $100+ for, say, a wig with the bangs trimmed. No. Most wig commissioners are doing the heavy shit that no one else has the skill to do.

>> No.9535785

>>9535769
Was it a Silky or a normal one? Silkies handle quite a bit better and the fibres are smoother. I think the straw feeling could have come from any dye issues, but the long ones are often not great feeling. They're better suited for spiking.

Anyway, try washing the wig out again with a full clean, soap/shampoo/whatever, and a little fabric softener/water solution. Then try again.

I was actually just about to post about my progress in taming a long Arda wig (Eowyn). I've been having a lot of trouble getting it not to sperg out and tangle/frizz. Just finished going over it with a straightening iron and it seems to have helped significantly, I would try detangler but I don't have any right now.

Also have a lot of shedding even when being gentle but largely due to the constant poofing whenever I put it on or move it around. Not really visible yet and I assume it's just because Arda's wigs are super thick and tend to have more fiber than they need, which can catch and pull very easily.

Biggest problems now are just standard styling, I need to do some layering and I'm absolute shit at evenly dividing out locks at the right places. Gotta do a fairly complicated style of bang fringe covering two side braids and it's a nightmare because I have next to no styling experience.

Late response but I would imagine G2B would hold it pretty well. If you can't get it to hold the shape you could try bringing it up in individual sheets and then squeezing those together with more gel once they dry a bit.

I've never actually tried this so it's mostly speculation but as long as you keep it about as high as the anime reference pic you posted (~3 inches tall) it should hold fine. Pol's hair actually isn't too crazy except in some of the Araki'd panels in the manga, it's really just medium hair gelled up with the top cut off.

Does anyone have tips on how to style wigs with frizzy roots?
I have endlessly googled it but can't find anything, maybe I'm using the wrong search terms.

I'm going to cosplay Kurama from YYH so I need to spike the top a bit. I've spiked regular wigs so I'm wondering if it's any different, I'm not sure if the frizzed roots will help me or if they will make any difference at all.

Frizzled roots make it much much easier since you already have a floof. In the wigs I have I don't have to worry about wefts showing since it's pretty thick. If you want parts flat where the roots are frizzled, the wig will look a little poofy in that area.

like other anons said, got2b and tacky glue. For more extreme hairstyles such as things like Tracer spikes you can use foam cores or metal wire with tape with glue to create frozen spikes and rolls etc.
These wigs also have the additional problem that you have to do more effort to hide the construction, something a regular hairstylist doesnt need to pay attention and hours to. So you pay more labor for this stuff.
Styling a cosplay wig has a lot more stuff to it than a regular haircut usually.

If youre cutting and maybe styling, dyeing, wefting etc on a level where you expect to sell your work, do you really think that any human will be able to do that in under an hour?

Also, like I said, I've cut maybe about 20 wigs, and at this point I'm okay at it, but not at ALL close to being able to do commissions

Long answer
> most cosplayers, even popular/skilled ones (the two aren't always the same, granted), draw the line at midback or butt for wig length. Anything else will instantly tangle a few minutes after wearing it, be hell to untangle, and end up looking pretty rough. In good conscience I could only suggest this length for photo shoots, not walking or con floor stuff.

As for reccomendations I would say EpicCosplay has a 60 inch wig, that would probably be your best shot. Arda makes a few super long wigs too.

Hey guys, so I was thinking of cosplaying Shion from the anime No.6 and I'm in need of a short, thick, fluffy white wig. I've made my research and the ones I liked the most come from Arda and Epic Cosplay, but since the custom fees of my country have the habit of fucking me over (plus the expensive shipping), I can't afford buying from them. This is how you should do an ahoge unless it's absolutely gigantic.

Cut a piece of high gauge wire long enough for the ahoge plus ~2 inches extra. Hair glue some loose hairs around the wire, let it dry, then use clear-drying school glue to seal it, let it dry again.

Loop the excess wire into a circle around the base of the ahoge and insert it through the wig's scalp in a corkscrew motion. The wire will flatten against your head, causing it to stick straight up and stay in place. Make sure the end of the wire is slightly curved up so it doesn't dig into your scalp.

You can just poke a hole through the skincap with a screwdriver/pin/etc and then thread the wire through. It won't hurt the wig besides putting a small hole in it that nobody will be able to see and you'll need to thread the wire through anyways.

Not a question about a specific wig, but I recently came back from AX (aka wearing a different wig every day) to realize I have a bald spot right near the top of my hairline. I think it came from wearing wig caps all weekend, but it's kind of distressing. This has never happened before and I've been cosplaying for awhile now.

I was just wondering if there's any way to avoid this in the future?

Quick stupid question, what's the best way to get the sides of this wig that I just cut to curve inwards to my face, for a more flattering look, but not so much that I look super round? I'm currently debating between the Magnum short wig and the Ferrari medium wig. For the Magnum Light Blonde it looks like a splitting image of his sister Rin so I really thing I should be able to style it to look like Len. My only problem is that I'm not sure if there is enough hair in the back to make a decent size tail. For the Ferrari I'm thinking about just cutting out the wavy part and then style the rest like a short wig. Looks like there is definitely enough hair for a pony tail. So, punks in the 70s and 80s didn't have and product for their styles and learned to make do with sugar water/egg whites/gelatin and other suluble solutions. It's 40 years later and proper products have been developed that do a much better job, but these shitty food solutions keep getting passed down by word of mouth.

I would put in a sparse comb of heavy duty wire to provide solid support, and then use Got2B glued to style the wig. It can result in a glossy finish I don't personally like, so I usually do a top coat of matte aquanet or a matte spray on top coat (think shellac. sort of looping it under the weft and folding it usually works for me, and then i cover the part of the wire inside the wig with some clear silicone once i'm 110% i'm good. That's just my personal method, though and I would experiment around with some throw-away wigs and find a method that works for you.

Work more slowly and trust your hairspray. You're overapplying if there is enough to form droplets, you need light layers or you run into a point where you are adding weight without strength.

I've personally never seen a Diana wig with green highlights done well. If your wig's a little long, test your method out on the very bottom (where you can trim if need be) and see how it works. Tread lightly.

Is there any saving a Lockshop wig? I have this Mermaid wig from them that I got when their production went to shit but before there was the blowup about it, and I just dug it out again. It's coarse, frizzy and matts super easily, no matter how much I finger comb. It almost looks like bleach damage. Aside from cutting it short, what can I do? Not sure a soak in fabric conditioner will fix this.

I need help, and I figure it's worth one last shot before I make the assumption that longs wigs are just a bitch to work with and my problem is just an inevitability.

I have a Hong Meiling cosplay and used Arda's Eowyn which is 28" from root to tip and goes a few inches past my shoulders. I'm a novice when it comes to styling, so I simplified her hair to cutting/parting the bangs and braiding the fringe back to the ear with the remainder from the ear back hanging down untouched.

No matter what I've tried, the back will tangle within 5-30 minutes of wearing the wig. Trying to fix it with my fingers makes it worse. I braid the back before putting it on. I've tried dryer sheets, but I don't think static was the problem anyways. I've sprayed it and heat-straightened it twice. I've sprayed it and combed it before and after putting it on. I just gave it a bath today with fabric softener and detangled/straightened it again. I haven't re-styled it yet since it's still a bit wet, but it is notably softer.

The only technique I've heard of but haven't tried yet is using silicone lubricant spray because it kind of pushes my resources and I don't want to waste my time considering that the wig has been worn a lot already.

A tangential concern I have is that the wig has lost quite a bit of fibers and seems to shed a bit every time I comb it. There's always tangles and knots, but I try to be as gentle as I can and it doesn't have any visible thinning. Is this just a side effect of how thick Arda's wigs are or am I fucking something up? Using a wide-toothed anti-static comb.

Ultimately, is there anything else I can try to get it to stay neat, and should the shedding be expected for a wig that's both thick and long?

>> No.9595899

>>9589189
you need to take g2b hair glue and a long toothed comb and just fucking plaster that shit as you pull each lock out and shape it

you may possibly need wire supports in the middle of each lock or seal each lock with clear-drying actual glue after the hair glue dries

just order some wefts and experiment with different glue/sculpting techniques

Would there be a way to attach a wig inside a helmet neatly so that I don't have to mess with pinning a wig in and putting a helmet on top?
Pic related is what I'm trying to achieve. I thought about just gluing long strands of hair individually around the inside of the helmet, then styling it afterwards?
What about the tuft of hair sticking out of the front of the helmet? I was thinking to make a styrofoam core, then gluing hair to it so that it'll hold it's shape.

Yes. Buy wefts and sew/glue them in, then style them out of the helmet.

Ardas wig fibres are notoriously coarse, which is great for heavily styled wigs but less great for long and flowy wigs. Long wigs will inevitably tangle, but Ardas are especially bad. Best bet is to keep it braided and then take it out for photos.

They are, there's been a few reviews and comparsions (Cowbuttcrunchies did one if I remember correctly). However, I'm pretty sure they've already discontinued the line and anyway anon already had a wig.

Personally, I'd recommend wigisfashion for long wigs. Their fibers are really nice.

I would do an inner slightly poofed/teased layer and then style and hairspray a nice layer over it. The inner teased layer will keep the nice top layer poofed out while still looking natural. People dont normally realize how plain old teasing is so magical and helpful.

>> No.9601942

Dude, you know it's almost impossible to dye a wig black. It'll usually end up looking purply gray

>> No.9601944

>>9595678
People usually try so hard to fight the tangling, but a lot of the pros embrace it. The main trick for a wig that you always want to present as thick and straight, would be to tease the back layer of the wig that's against your back and then lightly hairspray the top layer to it laying how you want. This keeps the top layer looking nice and stable with the bottom layer against your back adding volume.

Maybe in 2007 or if you're just using sharpies? I've dyed multiple wigs black with idye poly, both Arda and ebay wigs. However I also have a dyepot so that I can keep the wigs at a high heat for a while on the stove. If you only have warm water or can't keep it submerged for a while you're probably going to have problems.

I've ordered all 3 of these before, Matilda is the one i like most out of them all.

Imladris is good for high ponytails, but the width of the hairline is way shorter than the other 2, and stops about an inch above the front of your ears

Dany is nice, but the part is stuck in the middle, so if you pull it back or part it to the side, those pieces just separate down the middle

Matilda can be parted wherever, is thick enough you can cut it short or pull it up, and the hairline is wide enough to fall in front of your ears
