Sakizou like you initially posted is always a good choice if you want a challenging cosplay. But personally, I find the most impressive cosplays happen when you take a design that isn't initially SUPER complex and add to it,embellish it, and challenge yourself that way! Maybe do a period-inspired version of one of your favorite characters? Elizabethan maybe so you can make a giant collar (pic related)?

For example: Princess Bubblegum's dress from adventure time is by no means a complex build. But if you experiment with cut and fabric type and keep the most recognizable elements it would be really cool. Just an example, not saying do Bubblegum.

But a character that's instantly recognizable in a costume you designed yourself would totally steal the show.

I'm definitely in the minority here, but I really don't like this? I see this get posted everywhere and, while the costume is really cool and elaborate and well-made, it makes absolutely no sense for the character. Beyond it being an unnecessary genderbend, it's just too extra for Cullen. I'm sick of seeing it everywhere. Doesn't this girl have anything else to show?

Does anyone else get really frustrated when all the really cool costume designs are for things you know you could never get into? So much of the stuff I enjoy watching/playing has such generally simple or unimpressive character designs, definitely not the kind of stuff to wow at competitions or anything, but at the same time it seems so wrong to try and watch/play through something you don't like just to kinda earn the right to cosplay it, so I end up feeling so stuck; anyone in the same boat?

I shy away from that stuff too, I feel like if I don't feel super passionate about the source material behind a design I would start having regrets about investing so much time and money into a cosplay.

There are a lot of games out there I like with elaborate designs, though, even if they're lesser known. For anime characters, sometimes you need to embellish what's there or make artbook versions.

I agree with other anons, it feels like a waste of time to me to make a fancy design if I'm not into the thing.

Also, probably lower-tier in terms of extreme fanciness but I feel like a lot of Winx outfits could count here.

I feel like it has to make sense with the character or source material in some way for me to cosplay it. If the result is well designed and doesn't look like a bunch of "fancy" stuff thrown together (cheap lace on every edge, some noflutter bs), then it works.

Oh my god this series.

I'm a sucker for shoujo with demon characters and love stories, but there is something about Wedding Peach that is just too much for me.

Like, I could skip the filler episodes of Princess Tutu and the more sappy parts of Pretear, I could make it through Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne and even Mermaid Melody, but it's like there is some bizarre line in the sand and Wedding Peach just makes my brain grind to a halt.

Considering its one of the relative few stories with the whole demon angle used as a conflict, and actually has a flawed female lead, this inability to get past the sappy has bugged me since I was like 12. But to this day it's like my white whale.

Did you try the manga? I found it a lot better than the anime. A lot shorter too, so if you really can't stand it you won't be reading it for long.

But yeah it is a very sappy series and the premise is very 90's Japan.
