New costumes should be a china bought Felix from ReZero (didn't feel like making it) and I'm in the masquerade with a Azure Striker Gunvolt group (with WCS hopefully it isn't horribly managed as last year had some issues)

>Are you seeing any of the concerts?
Super excited about IM@S being there but probably not as they're the only thing i'd want to see and the ticket price doesn't seem worth it.

>> No.9485582

First time going to AX (and America's West coast), is it worth getting a US sim card so I can get internet access? Or is there wifi at the con? Or do people just use the hotel wifi?

I ask because my experience with big cons is that the cell and wifi networks get flooded and become unusable.

>> No.9485584

The con will not have wifi.

It's really up to you. I'm going to be using my data simply because the app they use for the schedule/map/cosplay gathering locations is more reliable than the physical program they give out to people. Some things change during the con and you'll only know that through the app or word of mouth. I mean there's always other ways to get information, but having internet handy makes things faster and easier.

As someone in the know about this shit, it's most likely the impeachment rally. However, other groups want to join and make this another huge rally because it's 4th of July weekend. This is what they consider an important part of being a true patriot and save America. The following groups may also join:

Womens March (which they are planning to go around DTLA, but not in the scale as the day after inauguration)
Immigrants March (most likely be at Perishing Square again)
LGBT March (most likely would pair with the women march)

However these are groups who expressed interest, but has not fully confirmed. I'm not that high up in chain so I cannot say for certain if the decision has been made, but that's what I know so far. I highly doubt it'll affect AX, but how these protest interfere with other activities, I dunno. Anything could happen.

It could just be me because I'm not the most social person, but I roomed with 2 other people. One of them had been going to AX with me for over 10 years. We knew the drill. For some reason, last year we all went our separate ways. (The 3rd person was his brother and I don't know him too well. He was just there to help pay the room bill basically.) We spent time together eating dinner like once, the AMV contest, and being in the room of course. But for the most part he split once we stepped foot on LACC grounds. I don't know if I did anything to cause him to do that, or if he just did it without realizing it. He's not a mean person so it was really out of character. I figure he woke up one day and realized I was obnoxious or something. I honestly don't know, and I haven't had the courage to bring it up because I wouldn't want to guilt trip him into hanging out with me if he doesn't actually want to, because that's also something he would do. I don't need someone to hang with me 100% of the time, but it would've been nice to have someone talk to every now and then.

Like at first, it's kinda nice going alone because you can do everything at your own pace and you don't have to worry about trying to make others happy. I did like exploring when I was alone. I walked every inch of the con from midnight-1am. Just....walking, seeing the night crowd. That happened to me halfway through my trip 2 years ago.

I think as long as you keep yourself busy, you'll be ok.

The #1 thing I notice is people who get too self conscious and stand totally still (probably because I used to be like that.) This is less bad if you're on the fringes of the crowd, but it still looks kind of weird.

You don't need actual dance skills, just try to loosen up and move, even if that's just nodding your head or tapping your foot or something. It sounds lame but lame movement is less conspicuous than being an awkward statue.

Also, try to bring only what you need. 1, it's less stuff to worry about losing and 2, carrying a bag of stuff obstructs you from moving as freely.

Wolf Children and Your Lie in April? What about fucking Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun? I think one year there were like 3 different AMVs with that same damn anime. And last year we STILL had to watch one. That was just AX though. I guess ALA had its own share of the same anime in different categories? Oh boy I can't wait for all the YOI ones...

Shit, I should've done this. I feel kinda bad now. I mean I did buy an extra one for a friend but there's a 3rd friend who wants to go but didn't get tickets because he doesn't know if he has the days off yet or not. I could've gotten the 3rd and gotten that insurance thing. I just didn't know they'd sell out so quickly and I didn't know about that insurance (I don't go to concerts often in LA so I don't know anything about the venues).

I hope he can go because it's like his favorite band and he's been too sick to attend AX for the past few years. He's been through hell with cancer and shit and this concert would've made him feel a lot better. Shit I hope he gets the days off. I'm gonna have to find a way to get him a ticket or....hell, even give him mine.

I can say that being the only one takes the edge off because you won't have to walk around and see possible better versions of yourself. I go to PHXCC every year. the reason con security didn't notice was because we don't have con security. when this happened last weekend, they literally hired outside security that night to check bags the rest of the weekend- the first time I'd ever had my bag checked at the con in like 5-6 years of attending. I take it AX has bag check?

Also unrelated, I'm from AZ looking to last minute attend AX. my big con this year was kinda sucky because of the whole gunman-no props-increased entrance wait-etc fiasco. plus a lot of artists were at famine instead.

bff and I were planning a trip to LA soon anyways and have been considering DLand, but maybe AX is more fun? is it worth it this late in the registration game? $90 for a weekend? is $55 for one day doable to see everything?

Late response from the doubter guys. I'll take back what I said on my original post. I was pretty foolish to not consider the possibly of there being not too much security or what >>9505949 said of not having security at all.

But back to the main topic, >>9505949
>I take it AX has bag check?

For the 4 to 6 years I've gone to AX they did have bag checks, but they weren't very thorough with it. I'll be honest, with all the bullshit that's been happening in the world (Ariana concert attack, PCC & now Rock am Ring got shut down for a day due to a bomb threat). I kinda hope that AX & the concerts happening (in & out of AX) step up their security game. We don't need another Bataclan or Manchester Arena attack in the world.

>is it worth it this late in the registration game? $90 for a weekend? is $55 for one day doable to see everything?

It's a little hard to say, to be honest, without knowing what you & your friend want to go to AX for. In my personal opinion, if you're there to do those most minimal things possible (i.e. people watch, buy stuff from the AA, play at the arcade/tabletop gaming, one day concert), I'd say that a day pass would be fine. If you're planning to go to a lot of panels (if it's super popular, expect lines) & just go absolutely ham for the experience, then a four day pass might be your thing.

>> No.9506115

>>9505975
I would like to mention that both Bataclan and Manchester were outside security cordons. At Bataclan they forced their way in. At Manchester he detonated outside.

As you've noticed the bag checks that AX does have are cursory at best and you can easily sneak things through. They are more of a hassle/annoyance to normal attendees than actually effective. Anyone who has been in the con for even a few minutes can tell you multiple ways to get things through, nevermind just hiding it on your person and walking it in past the bag check. That assumes you're trying to get whatever you have in undetected and not just assault one of the checkpoints, or hell, going through something that doesn't have a checkpoint like breaking through a window. A more thorough check leads to a large bottleneck which leads to a nice inviting target that doesn't even require you to get past security. Metal detectors are a little more effective without actually doing body checks like the airport but I've gotten things past them too. Nevermind how penetration tests put the TSA at a 5% success rate (95% failure to detect the test weapons) so they're not a shining beacon of success

SDCC has no bag check, no metal detectors, no pat downs. What they do have is a boatload of undercover officers all over the place and a few uniformed ones to keep people honest (even a dubiously visible marksman or two). I'd much have that then security theater that I know I can get through (and have).

>For the 4 to 6 years I've gone to AX they did have bag checks, but they weren't very thorough with it.

I went last year. It's all of the above. Momomc does pole dancing, there were a couple of stripteases, and also some audience participation games. Those are the most fun as you get to watch people egged on by the hostess do things they probably wouldn't outside of that room or participate yourself if you want. Naturally there's alcohol.

I've also been wondering this but how many of you gulls are out of state?
I always assumed the majority of people in the thread who say they'll be attending live in Cali but I could be wrong

>Asian Kung Fu Generation scheduled for July 3rd
>tickets go on sale Tuesday
>AX schedule not posted yet
>waiting for the days when the AMV contest and the debate panel are scheduled when it's already June
>mfw the show's already sold out by the time the AX schedule is posted

I have never been this conflicted in my life regarding con scheduling

buy a ticket first
sell it afterwards once you know whether or not you are going to go
AMV is usually early in the con anyways

i was just gonna ask this myself. Im sure the majority of the people here live in cali. i live in orange county, personally.

I might make an effort and meet some gulls this year. i usually never go to any of the meet ups since i carpool with a bunch of friends and we all pretty much stay together during the con. but since we got a hotel this year, ill have a better chance of breaking apart from them.

I'm the same way unfortunately and it seems to be a bit more difficult since this year we're all doing group cosplays
but since the meetups are usually late around 7-9pm I think I can (hopefully) break away from them after being together for so long.

Has anybody said or decided when/where the meets going to take place or is it to early to say?
Also new thread with discord invite pls
