I attended MMX in it's first 2 years because of Voltaire, Time Crash, Harp Twins and Steam Powered Giraffe. Once they moved from the GM Ren Cen, I had no interest in attending, and the guests started getting shittier and shittier.

What a fucking let down. The first two years of MMX were amazing, I had the best time even though it was a relatively small con. I loved the intimacy of the venue, the Ren Cen is very convenient for food and shopping (the CVS is a lifesafer for last minute cosplay needs or medical emergencies). I liked being in close contact with the guests and just how relaxed it was. MMX 2016 sounded like dashcon 2.0 in terms of deadness.

It seems like it isn't the fault of the con. The hotel is now under new management and cancelled the contract to the con. This is really bad, MMX could be in a lot of trouble financially.

Apparently though they went in to the hotel the other day to set up shit up and that's when the hotel told them about it. Apparently the hotel dropped the contract a while ago too and didn't bother to tell anyone.

They can't just make shit up if a contract is signed. If they did then the convention can take legal action. It's incredibly common for hotels to be lenient on what the contract States. In this case it sounds like the manager that was willing to do that left and the new one is sticking to the terms agreed upon and signed.

the lines for games were good and the variety was good! same with vendors. The cosplay pool party was alot of fun and the music was really good. the hot tub was tan/brown once everyone was out... lol. the console room was also really cool too

didnt attend any panels, though i did attend the rave and despite being harassed by a known con creeper I had alot of fun.

it was small but for being free it was soo worth going, plus being down the road, ghosting penguicon was also an option.

lots of cosplay, and a good chunk being of quite good cosplay
