I remember a few threads ago someone was complaining about a certain SS that charges way too much for small items, but can't remember or find what SS it was? I'm going to be purchasing one (1) small rubber strap from y!a and I was going to use Buyee (since it's offered right on the site) and I just wanted to make sure that they weren't the company being complained about? What’s the opinion on using series-specific base bags for a character not from that series? I was looking at getting one of the aichuu itamate bags and covering up the logo but I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes. I’ve never seen anyone complain about the utapri bags used for Love Live characters so I assume it’s not a big point of contention?

I think I have most (?) of my stuff so far, but would I be able to get some opinions on bags? I really like 1 and 4 for being extra cute but I'm worried about the colors clashing with my background fabric. 2 and 5 are just kind of safe but boring to me, while 3 would require me to sew an entire lining pouch out of the fabric which would be a whole project in its own and I'm trying to make a deadline. I personally like the salus bag best because I think it fits the best color-wise. You've got a nice, bright, saturated lime green in your fabric and merch. The heart backpack looks almost like a teal, while 1 and 2's pastels wouldn't meld well with it--I think they'd be rather ugly with that lime green, but that's my opinion. 5 is kinda ok, but in my experience all of wego's canvas has been a bit paler than it looks in photos. Also for the salus bag, couldn't you just make 2 backing boards for each side? A lining for the whole thing sounds like a bit much.

I was making a small wristlet bag, basically like a zippered pouch that I'm going to put a wrist strap on. I had 2 zippers at the top and had the zippers, the clear vinyl, the colored outside of the pouch, and the pouch liner all attached together at the top. Then I went to sew up the sides and was like fuck. it was impossible the way I did it.
So I made a regular fabric zipper pouch, I might make another clear pouch to just put it in, that would be easiest. This is like a trial version.
The clear vinyl wasn't hard to work with. If it isn't sandwiched between 2 layers of regular fabric just put tissue paper or even toilet paper over it so it doesn't stick. Use a long stitch. I'd say go for it, it's not that expensive if you ruin a little.

Here's a tip: If you want to put rhinestones on your bag/badges/charms but stores don't have the right color, just get some stick on rhinestones and you can color them sharpies. It works pretty well.

I don't to reply to this chick in the facebook group and sound rude, but holy shit it astounds me how easily these tumblr fangirls forget VLD is a show aimed at children and younger teens. That, and it's still a giant robot show, and even if it wasn't conceived as a toy commercial like most are, it's primary merch is still gonna be toys. Sorry to rant, but I'm just bitter these chicks don't know how lucky they are this show got popular enough to get an abundance of character fanmerch. Heck, they're lucky they're getting figures of the paladins.

I have some fan merch I didn't end up using for my bag and I'd like to sell it in order to buy more fan merch. I'm just a bit salty that they're seem to be taking the crapload of Voltron fanmerch available for granted, especially when the chances of official bag-suitable character merch being made is unlikely as hell. Heck, it annoys me even more since if there weren't so much fanmerch I doubt there'd be any Voltron bags, because very few people out there seem willing to actually put in the effort to DIY enough things for bags.

Ehh, I personally don't think it's a terrible thing myself. When people buy, say, a fan art button from me that I made, the physical button that they bought is their property, not mine anymore. Only the image on the button is mine. The button itself they could do whatever they want with it as long as the image is not duplicated because then it would be taking something that is mine. They can put it on their bag, lose it, sell it, fuck they can pierce their nipple with it for all I care. I'm not going to dictate what people should do or not do that they bought and is theirs now. The REAL problem to me is that there is no way of confirming whether the item was really bought from the artist or the person found the image somewhere and just made the button/charms themselves and say they "bought" it.

Finished my third itabag! I used the Amiami My Colle mini rucksack in orange, but the color is definitely way more red in orange. I was a little dissappointed in the color, but it think it goes fine with my merch anyway. Otherwise the bag is really nice although small. If anyone would like a more indepth review of it I would be happy to do one! But yeah, I wanted to keep this bag very cute and simple! All in all I only have 6 pieces of merchandise in it, but I'm feeling it!

I wear my bags daily and the clear window has some scratches, I can't even begin to imagine what could happen to my merch if the vinyl window wasn't there. Sure, the bag you posted is really cute but unless you intend to display the bag in your room only or have no care at all for your merch pieces, your stuff will eventually fall off/be yanked off/get damaged.
I've had friends getting stuff pulled off their non-windowed bags in crowds or generally damaged from just wearing them out. I've spent too much money and effort collecting and arranging the items and figurines in my bag, I love all my pieces too much to put them at risk. Even the rubber item I have hanging on the zipper, I regularly reach for it to check if it's still there or just put it inside the clear window if I'm gonna be in a crowd.
Pretty sure most people think that way too, hence why we don't see that many examples like the pic you posted. Good that you can easily replace your stuff if it gets lost, a lot of people don't have that chance (whether it's because they can't afford to or because their merch is rare).

I am wracking my brain here trying to think of anything it could be other than YOI. I'm a JoJo and Utena fan and none of the ring merch I am aware of costs that much, not even the super rare rose duelist ring from 1999 (it goes for $200-400 usually). I use pliers to shut the chain connector, so that the two metal sides overlap. Haven't had anything fall off by doing this. However, removing it can be a little pain, but as long as your item is a permanent fixture, it works.

Ah sorry I'm not going to be any help there, I actually pinned all my merch right to the liner since I plan on moving a the merch to a bigger bag next month. To keep the lining from falling down under the weight of the merch I put a safety pin through from the inside through the liner and the main front of the bag. I just didn't go throug both layers of fabric on the front (the fur has a lining sewn on) so the pin isn't visible at all from the outside.

I have a dilemma gulls. I want to make a bag for a character of a video game series typically aimed at adult men, as a result all the official items are ugly, poor for bags, and is scarce as it's a 10+ year old series. I've just learned that my favorite character is not likely to be in the new game that's in development despite being the series protag up until now. This character has almost no official items to begin with but now may not get anymore.

New buttons were released in Japan in a specific location only, and despite so many different images, my character only gets one out of I think 12.

There are no fan items with the exception of one artist I have already preordered some items from, and pixiv booth is limited as well despite this being a popular series in Japan.

So the question: Should I just make all my own items or put up with the few very unattractive items that exist?

Official items are a figure from the early PS2 model of the game, a water bottle that only has the character's tattoo on it, phone case with character tattoo that looks exactly like the water bottle, a $500+ watch that's too large for my wrist, rare plastic file folders + coaster, etc.

It's the Ryu Ga Gotoku/Yakuza series. I may have to invest in a button maker or ask a friend if I pay them to help me out. Taking caps sounds like a better idea and I may consider commissioning others.

Ignorance is not a fatal sin. And most importantly, this info IS NOT IN THE FAQ. Anyways.

The answer is yes, it's totally fine to make crafty things for your bag. It's a common practice for characters who have very little merch. Whether or not you LIKE the style is up to you, Itabags are an incredibly personal art all about curating your own personal brand of obsession. There really is no solid "better" way to make a bag, it's whatever you want to do! Some people make bags with nothing but official merchandise, some make bags full of fan merch, some like the uniformity of bunch of multiples, some people think multiples look boring. Whatever you love, and whatever makes the bag you love - go for it!

I don't have an inspo folder saved on this computer, but have at least one picture from google. It's got a bunch of manga screencap buttons as well as a hand made copy of the character's journal for the inside (and I have always liked this Ringabel bag)

As an example, I'm not too skilled when it comes to drawing so I commissioned the chibi art, but since manual crafts are more my thing I made the felt helmet myself. I'm an idiot and forgot to add the progress picture to this post. I'm pretty excited about the progress, but I've got a nice zenmarket order coming it, including a towel I'll use as a backdrop to make everything pop a little bit more. I really think I should have gotten an orange or red bag instead though.

May take out the green keychain, too. We'll see.

If I get too frustrated I either get pics online of my items or take pictures and just organize them in sai/photoshop so I don't have to keep punching holes in my bag.

This takes some effort of course, but it's a lot less frustrating than constantly pinning and unpinning everything.

Nice! Working on a Cinderella girls bag myself, far from done though. Personally I'd go for a blue coloured bag when using all cinderella girls. Or the colour of your fav characters (passion/cute/cool). My bag will be an Uzuki/Rika bag, so thinking about buying a pink bag and making a yellow board for the inside

Gonna give a shout out to yamutya001 on ebay for you gulls. They have both lots and individual merch starting at 0.99 auctions. It seems they stock "waves" of certain series at once, so keep an eye out. Just won pic related for $4.25 + $4.00 shipping, so not bad. Especially since the key chain with the green outline was an exclusive fan event.

I love them but I feel like I've been waiting for-fucking-ever for my last auction winnings to arrive. Paid and got shipped April 5th and stuff I ordered way after that has already gotten here.

First time they've been this slow and I completely forgot I'd won 20+ items until I was going to start on my bag and realized I was missing a ton of merch.
