Honestly she's much sweeter (or at least try to look like it) than Maki and Asuka.
Went to three AP tea parties in Paris and I can tell you about several lolitas who had bad experiences with them. Including me.

Several girls just noticed how Maki and Asuka, (especially Maki desu) don't seem give a shit about foreign lolitas or like they're judging them?

Secondly, the first lolita to arrive at the AP TP (i think it was like in 2012?) with two of her friends was greeted by Mrs Pretty,Maki and Asuka, but then Mrs. Pretty and Asuka just went inside the TP room (probably to be sure everything was ok before all the other lolitas would come),leaving Maki. Who waited and was on her phone the whole time she was with the three girls, she avoided any contact. The girl tried talking to her (in japanese, obviously), and she just completely ignored her. Even if she was tired/shy that was pretty rude to downright ignore her.

Sometimes, I felt like they didn't even want to be there? Their smiles felt forced/fake and it was unpleasant.

There's also a story of Maki trying to hide Hildekitten's face on the group pic (in 2012). I mean, she's not really pretty and her outfit was shit but still.

To finish this blogpost I'm thinking that maybe they're just annoyed to be the brand's image/attend so many TPs and are tired to be enthusiastic all the time? Maybe they're scared/shy because of the language barrier? But that was still kinda shitty.

From my own personal experience with Maki and Asuka (visiting the Paris store and Tea Party since a few years), Asuka is always the kinda "grumpy" one, always running around in the store to make everything look nice, never smiling (often not even in pictures), not really motivated to take pcitures and interact. While Maki is the one greeting costumers, happily takes pictures and smiles. Even at the Tea Parties Asuka was more doing organizing stuff and tried not to get to involved with the guests, while Maki was always running around, taking pictures with the guests and was generally more interacting. However in 2015 it was a little less, and in 2016 at the Tea Party it was basically non-existend. I think they were extremely busy with the fashion show, but they didn't even came out from the back room, they only came out to annonce some of the program and to greet some business people (?) who were at the Tea Party and giving them a gift (there were 2 older men and one older lady). However Ms. Honda was still always running around taking bazillions of pictures, as well as some other staff with short hair (don't know who she is though)

i've only met asuka and she wasn't mean really, just a busybody. i think the language barrier plays a really big part of it. she addressed us directly in japanese and just kind of assumed that everybody knew what she was talking about. not a problem for me, but probably an issue for a lot of other people. there were no pleasantries, her speaking is very direct while still being pretty polite. i have a feeling she feels a lot of pressure to get everything done so she doesn't have enough time to fraternize

Same here. I feel the event at AM won't be as intimate with the Chicago Comm compared to her other events in the States. You'll have lolitas from other parts of the country and some have already seen her too many times. Maki and Asuka aren't really models, they're brand representatives as well as in-house designers. Their "main job" isn't meeting fans, it's to design new AP prints/merchandise. From other's experiences, it doesn't seem like their English is all that great, either.

>>9425605
Akira's grasp of english is pretty decent (have ran into her at parties and she understood enough of what I said). Risa knows barely any. Of course Akira is gonna seem more friendly in comparison. Akira also had a dedicated translator with them - did Risa?

idk I think you guys are expecting a lot from people who are at events specifically to work, and have a basic understanding of English at best. Have a bit more empathy.

I would say their job is also to promote Angelic Pretty, or why are they always announced as special guests at AP Tea Parties and also always come to international events for selling and Tea Parties?
Their english is not really good, Maki can do easy conversations but Asuka ony a few words (but at least they try)

Most Lolitas I know (including me) don't really like Misako because she is always acting so distant, always have the exact same face / smile, not really showing any enthusiasm, not even trying to speak / learn english.

I agree that after the x-th Tea Party it will become less exciting and more of a job for you, so I'm not mad if Misako etc. aren't super involved with all the guests, but I wish they would try to hide their attitude, because for many people it's still a special moment to meet them.

RinRin Doll e.g. is really interacting with everyone and is still super happy to meet each single guest and tries to talk with everyone.

That's now how shit works. For one, Misako knows not too much English even though she acts like she does (she really tries), so unless someone's spoken to her about it at length in Japanese, she's not gonna care or think it's a big deal. One or two "third parties" saying someone is scamming when they've paid you just fine every year means you're not gonna believe the shit they're saying. It's also her job to go to events she's invited to; it's not like she gets invited to enough in each country to get to be picky about them.

Making a few sacrifices to make a living isn't a crime anon. Every man and his dog knows about the Leighs, She is not deceiving people into supporting their shop if everyone knows they are shitty. Besides, have you ever considered that she is still coming to their events in spite of them? Get free accom, trip overseas, TP where you are the guest of honour, have fun. go to a convention and meet your fans who appreciate you and think you are great for the low low price of a bit of lip service. If this is selling out then sign me up. Misako is great and if she puts up with some douches for the sake of her fans I have even more respect for her.

If you don't like Misako, that's cool.

What irks me about ppl hating Misako for AM drama is that it's highly hypocritical given the fact Midori, Akira and Yui all still go to AM too. They all have been around the Leighs and have all been mistreated I pressume. They are probably still going cause they get paid and they have managers who tell them to go.

Triple Fortune, Meta, Putumayo and Boz designers are there too. All of these individuals have went several time to AM.

Even if these individuals go, there will still be fashion icons and designers who will go in there place.

I haven't met Risa but I've met a lot of Japanese guests over the years (music and fashion related). There've been guests who looked up a couple of sentences, wrote them down and read them out loud to communicate with their fans, and even if it's a shitty translation and they didn't learn it by heart, they get so much love for it. I've been to Midwest a couple of times and I don't recall meeting a lolita a who wasn't from Illinois or the surrounding states. I'm hoping that it stays that way since we rarely get opportunities like this. This is practically our Rufflecon. Some of the AMW staff are lolitas, so I'm sure they'll put priority for the members in the area comms. I don't think they lurk here, so it's probably best to shoot them an email.

>>9424842
probably something to ask the staff about or it's TBA until tickets go on sale. I don't care much about Baby these days, but I'm always happy (to purchase something) when they've visited.

Anywho. I hope they'll have more available seats for this year's tea party than when they had Baby in the past. I also hope they've found a more reliable translator.

When you mentioned South Side, I had a silly thought of taking Misako out for Harold's, but then I remembered that they describe themselves as a no-frills restaurant.

>which makes it funnier

You know, the South Shore cultural center would be a gorgeous meetup space. I would love to have a Midwest Rufflecon/Chicago Paradiso type event there someday - featuring a brand and model guests, a fashion show, photo ops, raffles, light entertainment, a vendor hall, and obligatory tea party. I'm sure there's room for Chicago and surrounding comms to get together, and still have room for normies to host their weddings. I know that we have the mega meet and I'm thankful for that, but a girl can dream right?

>Is she sponsored by BABY? She never wears AP or anything to these tea parties.

I think AMW has been BTSSBout after coming for 2 years in a row. Meta maybe?

>I had a silly thought of taking Misako out for Harold's

There are better places than Harold's. Giordano's, Portillo's, Harry Caray's, and Billy Goat Cafe would be good places for Misako. Of course Misako will want to see Sue at the Field Museum and the Home Alone House.

I know. I was joking. I thought that was obvious.

Other anon was being ironic about taking her to the South Side which is notorious for its crime rate; I was joking about the popular eatery from that area because of it's "no-frills" description.
Don't shit on Harold's though. There's a bunch of those in gentrified neighborhoods for a reason.

I love quintessential Chicago chains and the thought of her trying to wrap her mind around a Chicago styled dog would be adorable, but let's be real, Misako deserves to be treated at Alinea's.

So, I asked a staff member and they said that she's just there to promote herself and not representing a brand guest. A tea party is TBD, depending on her and the translator's schedule (and how much energy they have). They'd like to set up a private event after the con, but of course, that's just depending on time, energy, and resources. Flying a guest in is expensive and time intensive, so I wish them the best of luck, and hope that Misako gets to see the city properly rather than be stuck out in the O'Hare area. I think that the comm should help out though. I'm sure they'd be happy to tote her around the best neighborhoods.

Ugh, meant to sage for being slightly off-topic. Here's a Misako reaction image.

I've met her several times. Every time she gives me the same impression as if she was just acting like the persona she created to become the kawaii ambassador she is, but in reality she is very different. But hey, lots of japanese people are like that, always having like a mask in public and hide their real self.

I was disappointed too! Myself and some other girls tried interacting. Maki was way more social even tho she doesn't know alot of English. Risa was stand offish at the meet n greet too, she also only said hello and nodded. AP should not bring her to America for events if that is how she acts.

To be honest, I judge her because she continues to support the Leighs. She may be a sweet person (I've met her several times), but she really looses ethical points by attending their shit con every year.

Lots Illinois/midwest con-lolitas do come to Midwest, but people who are active in the Chicago and Milwaukee comm I hope get first dibs.

I have multiple times. This year however she seemed a little unhappy. Barely smiling at all...she may just attend because she has too because it was obvious she didn't want to be there.

Honestly, booking a decent place in chicago in the summer is really expensive because of summer weddings. I know that there were a few lolitas from Pennsylvania who came for BTSSB, but I'm guessing they won't attend this year since they had a really good jfashion lineup at Tekko this year and the Rosemont area of Anime Midwest is a dead zone. I would die laughing if Misako went to the indoor skydiving place nearby. I have a feeling that she would want to see the Art Institute too!

Oh I know. That's why the mega meet have been on Sundays, and why I stated that it's, unfortunately, a pipe dream. Booking any venue between May through September is a pain in general.

Like I wrote earlier, some of the con staff are interested and willing to take Misako and her translator around the city, depending on their guest's energy. And I hope it all works out. I'd hate to fly into a city I've never been to and not get to explore it because of work or whatever.

Rosemont isn't as much of a deadzone as it used to be, but I'd still rather her visit Chicago proper. I think she'd be charmed by Sugar Factory at least, and I'd love for the comm to take her out for drinks there at some point during the con.
