Completely unrelated but I see this discussion pop up in Lolita threads every so often... graveyards used to be much more chill to hang out at, like, our relationship to death and the dead is sooo much more awkward today than it used to be. Like, mourning wear or the fact that the victorians had picnics at graveyards etc.

I don't think it's inherently bad; here we have a holiday in november celebrating the dead, and when I went it was a huge mass of people at the local cementary. Plenty of children, playing and chatting and whatnot. As long as you can be reapectful towards the monuments and the other people present, it's fine. Also, don't include real people names in your photos.

If we're talking cosplayers with big followings, I'm very curious on your opinions on Princelyblood. I think they've a nice balance on the ~super pretty~ make up and the more legit end of the spectrum most of the time, and their cosplays look mostly well made though they do fall a bit on lazing out on some things, but the visual impact is pretty dang good. I dunno, man, I see them all over my feed. I just wish they had good photos.

Alright. everyone needs improvement but they could be worse. jadesprite's wig is nice, but her fake fur is shitty quality and wtf is the lazy wrap on her hands. davesprite's wig is nice and wings acceptable, but red shirt? Yeah I agree. I'm getting very tired of them when so much of their cosplay is 'almost but not quite' for quality. The fins are nice, eyebrows are nice, and gray looks smooth. But lipstick on a male troll, girly eye makeup, yarn horns (granted, better than most. but still yarn.), and that wig! the purple piece looks like she just stuck it on her forehead and didn't even bother shaping it to smoothly go with the rest of the hairline. She put effort into styling the back of the wig, but the front hairline is just garbage.
She's not an awful cosplayer, but seeing the 6 of same picture with slight variations, combined with all of the above, really isn't doing her any favors here.

The sides of the wig also look really stringy like she put in way too much hairspray or something, the wig in general just looks like a mess. And I really think she should ditch the fake teeth. She has a very small mouth and the teeth look really bad on her. Pic related is older so she's gotten better about it but I still really think she should drop them entirely. Also maybe just a pet peeve of mine but I hate when people do the slightly open mouth thing.

Thing is that unless you're really lucky the way you smile and the shape of your mouth is going to make it look super awkward, because your teeth are going to be way too long. Or, if you use tooth black, far too short and making your bottom row disappear. The best I've seen is wonderflex + just a short point. So not really a V-shaped tooth but just the tiniest enlongation.

We had a new 12 year old come to their first meet last month who was totally up to date and in a Dave cosplay.
The 'let's read homestuck' videos seem to get a lot of the younger crowd past the first 2 acts, where honestly a lot of the references might be too old for them.

More than a handful of young homestuck's have told me they moved to the actual comic after watching up to act 3, read until they were up to date, then went back and read the first two acts when they had things to look for and keep them interested.
For some people, just reading isn't as engaging as an audiobook or something with voiceacting. I can't really fault them for it? If they like it, they like it and i'm glad to have them cosplaying. I don't think your average decent cosplayer would be 'a casual fan'. No one paints themselves gray casually lmfao

So MTCC (formerly known as MTAC) is usually a pretty small turn out, since only recently it's been made into an actual convention. When I first started going it was 20$ for a weekend pass and it was a hallway in the basement of the convention center.
Somehow this year we ended up with way more people than I was expecting. While we have 440 members on the facebook group, the usual crowd is about 30 regulars only about 25 of them in cosplay. Sushi lunch was roughly the same turnout as last year, but the photoshoot had a handful of new people showing up, some of them in full gray paint, and a whole bunch of people who weren't even cosplaying homestuck coming to hang out.
The Dave on the right, closest to the front, was new, and 12 or 13 if i remember right? The Calliope's were also new and young!

Our photoshoot location at this convention center is always the same spot, tucked between the north and south building under a bunch of escalators. Next to this spot theres a large area that used to be the dealers room at FanExpo each year, but was being used MTCC weekend for some sort of event that we'd all been curious about.
That event turned out to be an expo that included a Pitbull concert lmfao so we had to delay our 4:13 photoshoot a little because you couldn't hear anything due to Pitbull playing directly beside us.

A couple of the best received cosplays that weekend were the wedding Kanaya (she's super tall and was upset she couldn't gray that weekend due to an allergic reaction she'd had to some primer a couple days before. poor girl didn't want to make it worse), and Guy Fieri, who had two pairs of tongs with them.

Our 413 meet was a little small yesterday, likely due to the weather being really chilly in comparison to the last few weeks. I wasn't the only idiot who braved it in shorts though!
We had our usual potluck lunch- these kids are so good at bringing food, everyone took home leftovers. 3 new people came and said they had a wonderful time. So, cold, but not a waste at least.

Our next event isn't until Anime North at the end of May, which is our biggest turnout every year because it's Canada's largest convention. Really hoping it's not as hot this year, but they're already giving warnings about the heat for next month.
It's looking like it'll be the first time in 7 years that we've not had a AN Sunday Photoshoot- though there's still time for that to change I guess.

I can bet there will be due to Hiveswap. Given how long awaited the game has been and the amount of hype, I'm assuming there'll be a boom. Rikala still posts old homestuck on her instagram, and has changed usernames as of a while back. She's a guest at a couple cons now and has improved a lot from her days of basically only cosplaying Mindfang. 14k is quite an achievement, but IG very much is not a community centered around craftmanship. The sooner you realize that IG popularity has very little to do with quality of craftmanship, the sooner you can move past bitterness and jealousy.

I'd say that pretty much anyone can get up to 3k, more than that you need to dedicate a non-neglectable amount of time to follower interaction and producing content. I definitely think 10k+ takes some effort, but it has far less to do with craftmanship and is more influenced by half a dozen other factors. Mostly it's about being pretty and vaguely interesting.
