To the anon who replied to me last thread
>If they ever find out, you could just say you were going with a niece/nephew or some young family member. It'd be hard for them to judge you if you say that you were bonding with a family member.
>I'm curious, have you ever thrown around your authority in a convention?

That could work, considering that my niece likes to cosplay and we usually go together. Though, I can still never invite them over to my house. Anime figurines, anime posters, body pillows. I even have my alarm set to say "Welcome home onisama" whenever I disable it. It's embarrassing now that I am typing it out actually.

To answer your question, not really. It's hard for anyone to believe me when I'm cosplaying, even if I whip out the badge. They just think I'm roleplaying. It also doesn't help that I like to cosplay as law keepers from my favorite animes/vidya. I don't go to cons to do my job, I go to enjoy myself. Though I've stopped a party before because it was filled with under age girls (only girls, like 15 years old) drinking with guys who were 25+

Same feel.
Other feels. I almost think I will never have a lolita friends or cosplay friends who are actually interested in being friends. It's a two way street and I am starting to feel like no one in my life seems to care as much about me. I put so much into a friendship and don't get nearly as much love in return. I guess I will continue being lonely while still kind of being around people

>> No.9392449

>>9392432
I always find this hard, but usually it's with people of the opposite gender. I'm fine with being friends with my male friends, but when it comes to genuinely wanting female cosplay friends there is always ALWAYS feelings that pop up. If I befriend someone I'm not particularly attracted to, they end up having feelings for me, and if I befriend someone who I find cute I will develop sexual feelings for them.

I can get over myself having feelings for them, though it's just sexual. I don't like being friends with people who I have no interest in, because I feel that it's cruel.

I don't really have a lot of friends of the opposite gender, so I don't really know what is normal. I don't think I can truly be friends with girls I find to be cute because in the back of my mind I want to fuck them. It feels like I'm not being genuine.

Ive been hanging out with people a lot lately and I'm finally starting to feel like I'm getting over my social anxiety, and I definitely can attribute a large part of that to my comm. I can be myself around them and they still like me, so it taught me I can I do that with other people too. Plus just having practice being around people is nice. I feel so happy.

Anon with the obnoxious horny friend
>Wake up to go to work
>Phone vibrating alot , finally decide to check what's going on
>ohgodno
>It's the group chat
>Read 100+ messages of an argument that one of the group finally told horny friend they had enough
>They told her politely the group doesn't want randos in our room and to shut up about sex already
>Horny friend gets upset because she said she isn't that bad
>Another person in the group agrees with the person that no one's comfortable
>She starts freaking out saying we can't handle her mental illness
>Person in group said that there are way to handle this and not to embarrass everyone and herself
>She gets more offended and rants more
>Leaves the chat
>No one feels bad and they just greet me like nothing happened when I finally speak in the chat

I kind of feel bad and probably will talk to her later on tonight but I honestly think she had it coming to her. I want to help her though, I just need her to understand that sometimes you need a filter.

Gonna state the obvious, and you probably assumed this but as a dude that would manwhore at cons I never really gave a shit about where my spunk was going and would use pillows to help with sex positions. All surfaces were fair game and it's not like you can expect someone to have sanitary concerns about this stuff. Do you really think your friend would have the courtesy to say something to her partners like "Don't rub your dick on the pillows?" or "We can only use this bed/chair because my friends said so."...Nope, if she had a history of doing it, one of you probably put your face indirectly up against some dude's ballsweat or manspunk that hadn't even showered in days. ordered a cheap cosplay online thinking it was gonna be thin, flimsy and like the usual "cheap" cosplays

came in a couple days ago, was thick, well-constructed material with a lot of attention to detail. i'm pissed because it's not what i wanted. i just wanted a thin polyester blend skirt with shirring to wear for a cosplay this summer. instead i got this beautiful thicc skirt that holds shape so well it doesn't even need a petti, with hidden pockets and a buckle-system to close.

which is like great, but i tried it on in moderate winter weather and almost died of heat. i can't imagine how horrible it will be in the summer.

so i've learned my lesson and i'll just make the damn thing this time. it sucks because its a nice skirt, maybe i'll get use out of it in normie-wear.

Tell me, anons.
What's the point of trying if you have nothing to look forward to?

I haven't had real friends since the 8th grade. I contemplated killing myself every day all throughout my senior year. I would walk by the highway and think about running into traffic (stupid method, I know, but I didn't want my family to know what was going on and wanted it to look like an accident.)

I knew I would end up screwing myself over in whatever college I got into. But than my edgelord little brother started becoming open about how suicidal he was, so I kept powering through because I knew that if I killed myself he would too. Low and behold I've already failed a class in the first semester of my sophomore year and I'm on my way to failing another.

Anyway, I still don't have any friends. I don't have any motivation to keep up with classwork, I don't have any hope for the distant future, the future next semester, or the future a week from now.

I've distanced myself from Lolita to keep from getting distracted, but end up obsessively checking Facebook for no particular reason (no friends, remember?) My comm is all older than me and married. I don't seem to have much in common with them. A lot of them are borderline ita, but they all seem to be friends with eachother so I guess I'm the real loser here. I gain absolutely nothing from attending meetups since most of them are at people's houses and I barely know anyone.
I wore lolita on campus a few times, but I felt nothing. I still like how it looks, but I have a hard time feeling motivated to wear makeup let alone wear lolita.

If only my brother were mentally stable. I could've killed myself by now. But then I guess I'd ruin my family's lives? I don't know. Science needs to get working on technology that can erase people from existence.

get medical help anon. go see a psychiatrist and a psychologist.
jesus fuck im tired of all these depressed fags thinking they're beyond getting help. you need medication for the chemical imbalance in your brain that makes you think everything is pointless.
while getting treated you should also be seeing a psychologist to talk to and get to bottom of your sad fag issues and also see how the medication is treating you so the psychiatrist can tweak it if necessary.
it might take awhile to find the medication thats right for you or maybe you'll be lucky and get it on the first try.
look buddy i've been diagnosed with a laundry list of mental illnesses, i tried and failed to commit suicide and i was committed for it (mental hospitals fucking suck) but finding the right pill combination helped so much.
it took about two years trying to find the right combination of pills but it was worth it in the end.
please stop wasting your time on the internet being an edgelord and save yourself damnit.
all the tools are out there you just have to use them.

It's a question that may get asked by many. What do you want out of a friendship? You're asking a valid question anon and you're pretty lucky having easy relations with others.
I feel like I have arrived too late in people's lives. They don't engage with me as much as I engage with them. I kind of kept to myself in both college and high school so I have missed those moments to make long lasting friendships. I had some friends in college but they became very sjw and expressed a lot of toxic views masked behind good intentions.
Long story short with what people I do have in my life ,I usually start conversations , and attempt to make plans. I just wish I could have someone who would occasionally call me/text me, make plans with me ,or see how I am? I don't want or ask for much. I just want friends who care about me too. I want to have a close friend who is interested in listening to my feelings and willing to be shoulder.
I just am not as fortunate as you are because I haven't had the opportunity to make those long lasting connections

Took like 5 damn minutes, I want to know who was too busy with their time to spend 5 minutes to do it. But anyways...

I just went there for the screws and saw her there. Considering I might not see her again and she was standing around doing fuck all, why not talk to her then?

I honestly want to know why you believe that a public location is not a place to ask someone out. There are very few places I can think of where it's inappropriate to talk to someone and potentially ask them out, as long as they're not busy.

We were recently at a con and said friend boasted about how they were the last admin of the comm. It didn't really hit be until later how much bullshit that is because it still exists and they are in no way still an admin for it. Thinking about it, I might of been with some well known friends at the time.

Let me ask you a question.

If you wanted to learn how to catch a fish, who would you ask? A fisherman, or a fish?

If the answer to that seems obvious (which it should be), you should also know why you never trust a woman's advice on how to pick up women. Doing anything a woman tells you to do is an active impairment of your ability to succeed. The saying of "women don't know what they want" is more true than you could ever realize.

Oh you better look like a Chad though. Everything you do is automatically creepy if you don't look like that. So yeah, look like Chad, ignore what women say, just go up to them and take what you want.

I've been out of the hobby since eleventh grade but I've been stalking /cgl/ for years. I can't afford the time, and I can't make myself care anymore to put in the effort.
I don't really feel anything like I used to. Even if I get mad at someone or something, I'm not actually that upset in any deep capacity, it's all for show. Even if I'm crying in a ball in the corner, I'm clearly thinking and my mind isn't really involved in what my body is doing.
No matter what I'm doing, the only way to get through it is to push the goalposts further and further down the road; first they were to graduate high school-then, life would get better. But it hasn't. I didn't feel any pride or accomplishment or even relief. The distant struggle on the horizon had simply come to my doorstep.
I'm burning out. I can't do anything other than school and work, and I've come to realize that my way of thinking that "everything will be better once I get through this-And that too, and then the next thing" isn't realistic.
I'm just vaguely unhappy, I guess.

That advice was less literal and more to do with mindset. Chad never once thinks to himself "I wonder if I should do this, I wonder if I'm bothering her, I wonder if she'll say yes", he just goes up and does it never even considering he might fail, and that confident alphaness is what gets girls knees weak. If you think you might fail you already have.

Sometimes I swear that r9k pretends to be girls in these threads as some form of advanced trolling. What's literally the worst thats going to happen if you start a conversation with a stranger in public?

Actual repercussions look more like...
>"Some guy asked me if I was a cosplay."
>"What's a cosplay?"
>"I don't even know."
>"That's strange."
>"Yeah."

You're acting like by just asking someone a single innocuous question its going to send them to therapy for months or something. That it's some type of tragic event that should be avoided at all costs. You know what's actually tragic? All the "Why am i so lonely?" posts from both genders on 4chan because they're only comfortable with talking to people on the internet.

There's literally nothing awful about it because the worst thing that could happen is you become a minor inconvenience for someone. Then you're gone the next minute.

Why do I attract a lot of otakus? I know I don't look like an otaku myself. Can anyone tell me what they're looking for? I don't go to anime conventions. I don't play video games. >> No.9393242

nayrt, but let’s be real though, the results for the guy usually tend to be bad either way:

scenario A, not a cosplayer:
>”what is cosplay?”
>”what a weird question”
>”what a weird guy”

scenario B, a cosplayer:
>why is he asking me this?
>do I look like his waifu?
>oh god, is cosplay his fetish kink?
>what kind of socially awkward do you have to be to open with this line???
>lie, “what is cosplay”
>go home and bitch about it on cgl

Neither is going to result in PTSD, but I don’t see either one working out well either.

Though I should point out, the guy above never said he would approach the cute girl to ask if she cosplays, I prefer to think he’s just going to say hello and ask what she’s making out of her supplies.

And the one in the cringe story made the mistake of walking away when she said she didn’t know what cosplay is instead of explaining that she looks like someone famous he saw on Facebook. The floor-staring, disappointed exit just about cements the whole cosplay-kink thing, because it looks like he lost interest once she wasn’t into cosplay. You have to keep in mind cgl has weekly bitching sessions about cos sluts and how they changed the cosplay scene, so only showing interest in someone if they cosplay sends up red flags for a fair number of cosplayer gulls, which is why asking a random stranger in a random shop if they cosplay isn't really the best idea.

I also joined a local religious group and there I found comfort and a lot of people to talk with about my disbeliefs and problems, and everyone seem very kind and supportive.

Different anon, but this sort of scenario has actually happened to me twice at Home Depot. Of course, I can't speak for how non-cosplayers would react but being a cosplayer, scenario B definitely didn't apply to my thoughts.

The first time was when a girl in Home Depot so it's a different situation for sure. Second time, while I was checking out, the male cashier asked if I was a cosplayer after he saw what I was buying. We just chatted about conventions and I think he mentioned that he didn't cosplay but his friends did or something. It was a brief meeting but I thought it was fun to meet someone else that knew about cosplays outside of conventions. All of my com bring their boyfriends/gf's to meetups, to say hello and show them off. I want to do the same, because he's incredibly handsome and super fun to be around. Though the issue is that he's pretty /pol/ like..

He doesn't spout the stuff he believe's. He knows it's social suicide. The problem is that there is a few trans members in my community. He tries his best to be respectful because they are my friends. His problems with transexuals was that he had to take care of his schizo mother for 10 years before she committed suicide, so whenever he sees people cheering on mental illnesses like it's a badge of honor I know that he gets disgusted. Though, he remains respectful.

I also think another reason why I may be hesitating from bringing him is because I sort of feel embarrassed hanging around people he hates. He has not once given off the impression of being mad about this though. In the end he supports my hobby, and has been the best thing in my life.

I don't know exactly where I'm going with all this. I want to bring him along to show the guy who supports me so much because others in my com do it, but I don't want to force him to do something I think he wouldn't like. I know for a fact that if he did come along he'd be completely respectful of everyone, despite his views but it'd just be a mask. Would it be wrong to ask him to come with me?

I really like wearing lolita in day to day life, but my family is super against it.
They see it as "one of my cosplays" or "too dressy" or just simply "too different".
It's frustrating because mother is a jeans and a t-shirt kind of a person and my sister just wears normie basic bitch things.
Even in middle/high school I was super out there with my fashion choices (extreme cyber goth).
But they were more ok with that than they are with lolita. My mom just frowns and sighs and my sister will make some snarky remark. Or else they don't even want to be seen with me in it.
I really don't know how I can change their mind, but it's affecting me going out in lolita on my own because now it's torn down my confidence in it.
Lolita is my outlet for depression and is one of the only fashions that suits my body type. (Thin and short)

He ended up talking to me about it last night, since I remarked on how other members of the meet are bringing their SO's and he picked up on it. I told him everything I wrote, but in a more jumbled mess but he understood what I meant. He called me a dumdum for thinking that he wouldn't want to go to something that was important to me, and that he would be on his best behavior. He also asked me to show him who the trans people are before the meet so he wouldn't misgender them.

Woke up this morning to him baking cookies in an SS uniform, saying how these cookies wont be the only things that will be baked at the meetup. Then started joking with me that he'd be wearing it to the tea party. I want to go back to 2003.

I want to go back to the days when cons were full of outcasts and we were all bonded by the shared experience. When everybody was welcoming and friendly by default because we were all weird and we looked past weirdness to find things we liked about people. When a shy and awkward person like me back then could make great friends and even get relationships at cons.

Now it's just like high school over again. People are always actively looking for reasons to exclude other people. Hostility is the default attitude. Cliques are the standard. Somebody like me now, with 15 years of social practice and who's totally adept in the normal world suddenly becomes a gigantic loser again at a con.

It really makes me sad. They were the one place I could go and take the mask off, where I had a fair chance at having fun and meeting cool people. It's all gone now and there's nowhere to go anymore.

>> No.9395513

>>9395495
No I understand what you mean, like I said it is toned down if you compare it to sweet lolita but compared to everyday normie fashion it does stand out. You might not get the common "It's not Halloween!" calls that lolitas do but you'll still attract attention because that's just the nature of alternative fashion.
Personally I feel that if you wear what you like - Whatever that may be - It can help your self esteem a lot, especially if you feel beautiful and comfortable in what you choose to wear.

>> No.9395540

>>9395511
Not sure what cons you're going to, but my local cons are full of friendly people like you described in the first paragraph. I never notice hostility or people trying to exclude others. You can walk up to almost any other cosplayer, start a conversation, and become friends.

Maybe it's just your personality that's causing people to be rude? Do you come off as friendly or as a depressed wreck?

>> No.9395563

>>9395540
Mostly big West Coast cons. The smaller ones are overrun with screaming teenagers, so I don't go.

I dunno, it's not really a "rude" thing. It's like, in the old days I'd spend my cons randomly getting into conversations with people, and we'd very quickly find common ground. Pretty much all of my friends today came from meetings like that in the old days.

Nowadays when I talk to people at cons, that kind of thing is very rare. It becomes obvious pretty quickly that we're there for different reasons and have different kinds of attitudes toward the scene and hobby in general.

I feel like there's an ever-widening gulf between fans of different franchises or styles of anime, too - in the old days we all kind of watched the same stuff, now there's a good chance you'll have no fandoms in common with people you meet, especially because so many people at cons these days are barely into anime at all and are mostly /co/ kind of people that just go there for the chance to wear costumes and for the parties.

I wouldn't have been so pissed off if they didn't make a huge deal about spending time with me. My original plan was just to meet them at the con (so they could hang out doing whatever they wanted) but they insisted that I stay with them and we all hang out together. I'm very salty because I spent money on the ticket just to walk around for a few hours while listening to complaints or being ignored. This is why I usually end up going to events solo

Though since you're a girl i'm at a complete loss.
Just bad friends, and the bf probably has social anxiety. It'd explain his silence around someone new and constant need to smoke. Not that it makes up for your shitty experience. I tend to go to events alone as well for the same reasons.

Went to a cosplay event one time and saw a group of four that were cosplaying the FFXV gang of Noctis and company. All dudes, and pretty friendly. Got to talking with them, enjoyed it quite a bit. Hung out with them and followed them around the con, even acted out some scenes. I was dressed as the Mysterious Stranger. At dinner time, the dude who was Ignis goes to his fucking car and pulls out a Coleman cooking grill and makes his buddies and me some tasty as fuck burgers. Turns out dude worked at a restaurant. The feels part is I never saw them again afterwards. I truly felt like I had some neat friends. I wanted to sing Stand By Me for them.

Yesterday I ordered something from Japonica with a small time frame.
Thoough, they responded quickly and invoiced me as well. When I paid there were still 2 hours left on the auction.

Yeah, it was just really odd. The bf was nice when he did talk but it's off-putting when someone is constantly on their phone or only talks about one thing all day. I tried to cut him some slack because it was his first con but he barely looked at anything and it felt like we were dragging him around even though he said he was having fun.

Things would be alright for awhile and then my friend would get weird when the bf left or even just did/said one little thing that wasn't 100% excitement. They argued about almost everything but always passive aggressively which got incredibly awkward for me.

I feel like I could've saved my money for stuff I actually need but lesson learned

I'm always the one who has to initiate contact, who has to come up with new things to do, who's trying to organise get-togethers. At best my friends will hang out with me for an hour or two before going on to someone else's party without me, at worst they tell me they're "super busy with work :-(" only to later post on social media about the great time they had with other people that day. I'm introverted as fuck so this is completely exhausting to me and I often can't keep it up and end up losing contact completely. At this point the only real friends I have are my fiancé and my parents.

I don't understand why. Am I not fun to be around? Am I annoying? People at lolita meetups have told me that despite being quiet at first, I'm surprisingly interesting and funny once I get to talking. I don't overshare or bother people with my problems. I care about other people and try to be a good friend. Yet I've seen others, who act rude and uncaring and selfish and even take advantage of the people around them, have strong longstanding friendships. What do they have that I don't? I don't understand what's wrong with me.

The guy is oversimplifying when he says energy in, energy out because there are other factors that come into play, but yes... that is true for everyone. People with thyroid issues are going to have more difficulty losing weight, but it's definitely not technically impossible. Plus problems with thyroid are quite rare (not saying your friends are lying, but maybe keep a grain of salt), and it's most commonly eating/exercise habits that make people fat.

I really, really love old school lolita.
In a practical sense, it's awful. It's so costume-y, vaguely tacky, and out dated.
But I love it in photos. I love the tartan, simplicity, the oversize lace, generous amount of ruffles, attention to small details to bring pieces together. I love the lack of care about it, heart-shaped anything, looking as ridiculous as an old porcelain doll.
I get so emotional looking at old school lolita, reminiscing about being in middle school and spending endless hours searching through google images to see anything new, finding a copy of GLB at my local comic book store. Those were the days.

Is it? I'd say today's trends are a lot more costumey, but I guess it's relative and depends on personal tastes. I know this feel though.

I think OTT classic today is pretty costume-y, but man.. some real old school pieces just scream "school theatre" to me.
I wear vaguely old school sweet (2005-2010 era stuff) but my favorite stuff predates that. My favorite pieces are those Anne of Green Gables looking outfits, and old velvet OPs.

Hi! Anon here who had thyroid problems severe enough that my whole thyroid gland had to be surgically removed a month ago! It caused me severe medical problems and now I take medication to replace the hormones I would normally get from my thyroid.

One thing I learned during the course of my disease is that while it's been getting a lot of coverage in the media, is that it's not a common condition, though it mostly happens in women (or if you have a family history of diagnosed thyroid problems). It's an amazing "coincidence" that your fat friends all have the same problem. Another thing is that weight problems are highly manageable during the course of your condition. If they haven't been taking medication/treatments or special dietary precautions, then they either have no access to medical professionals to help them, or they themselves are to blame for their state. It may be difficult for them to maintain a healthy weight but if they don't try, then it's their own fault for being that way. If your friends have no other hormone related problems (irregular periods, emotional and mental problems, temperature sensitivity etc.) then it's probably not a hormone related problem!

I myself had suffered with my condition for the better part of three years before my medication stopped working and my health deteriorated enough that surgery was one of my remaining options (or radiation). If you have questions, feel free to ask!
