PAX East. Lets see who is going. Who's taking photos? Who's cosplaying?

I'm cosplaying some old shit.

>> No.9351248

>>9351242
Do people shoot at PAX East?

I bought a Saturday pass, but I'm thinking about selling it because I don't see anyone talking about it or scheduling shoots for it.

>> No.9351253

>>9351248
I seen actual panels and booths dedicated to photoshoots. But the last time I saw it, it was a booth for League of Legends cosplayers.

>> No.9352445

>>9351248
I've been to the past 4 PAX East and it was like any other convention. People walking the halls and floor in cosplay, people taking pictures

>> No.9355232

>>9351248
People shoot, it's just difficult because there's not a whole lot of space and the lighting is kind of meh. It'd be nice to have more photographers though, if you drop your name in one of the facebook groups I'm sure you'll get some bites.

to answer your question, not sure what to cosplay yet. Ordered something, if it gets here I'll wear that, if not, probably some old TF2 cosplay for one last run.

>> No.9355944

I'm going! OoT Zelda, Ms. Pauling, Haydee (if we finish in time!)

>> No.9356259

It's my first year not going. I went to East and West last year and other than the League of Legends content creater party (which was in the Riftwalk, pretty awesome) they were both huge letdowns in regards to booths and nightlife.

>> No.9356275

>>9356259
It was my first time last year, i mainly wandered around the ulol stuff. I agree with you tho, I dropped Sunday because it was a waste of money. This year I'm wearing easier cosplays so I can actually play the games.

>> No.9356278

I feel like pax East cosplay is more about roaming around and getting your picture taken by normies. Which is fine, you could end up on the front page of reddit or some shit.

>> No.9356533

I'm going as Oscar Of Astora, my buddy's going as Venom Snake.

>> No.9359553

Oh wow, is PAX East not popular? Barely any hits up in here.

Thinking about Fallout cosplay or some medieval stuff. Not sure yet.

>> No.9359556

How is it going solo? I got a ticket but had a falling out with the friend who was supposed to go with me.

>> No.9359565

>>9359556
I've been to almost every PAX East and a few smaller cons. I've been to a lot of NY comic cons. I actually find the PAX East community to be the nicest and friendliest. Going solo? If you aren't super shy, you will probably be able to make a lot of friends there.

>> No.9359623

I'll actually be going with people for once and we're all driving up, so I'm only going to bring my new cosplay up. I'll be Pax Jax for friday and saturday

>> No.9361684

Anyone know if there are cosplay oriented things to do at pax? Like a cosplay lounge or something?

>> No.9362985

>>9361684
Riot isn't there this year but they held a cosplay "fixing" lounge last year. There's 2 cosplay panels this year, one's a q&a and ones cosplay&marketing, both run by the same people/
A lot of the time the exhibitors have sorts of cosplay contests and stuff, but usually it's not publicly announced- you find out by walking around.

I chose to do it because I want to start learning to sew and it's pretty simple in concept. The fact it's at pax is a bonus

>> No.9365389

>>9363864
PAX started out as a pure gaming con, so there's little to no cosplay culture since costumes get in the way when you're playing vidya/tabletop, which is what most people go for.

>> No.9365460

>>9365389
I can see that, but it had evolved so much since when it first started. Like some previous posters said, there is some of the best cosplay I seen here.

I guess a lot of people here are focused on cosplay contests and celebrities? That's the only thing I can figure, since that is what PAX doesn't have.

>> No.9366520

>>9365460
well PAX does have a few of those, but they're uncommon, as said. I think it more has to do with people's interests. A lot of people aren't always interested in games in general/the games they cosplay. Out of a hundred Ezios, I doubt at least 20 of them actually know much about the game. So going to a convention oriented around those games is kind of pointless for a lot of cosplayers.

>> No.9366565

>>9366520
I see, that makes a lot more sense. Guess Vidya cosplayers are more niche

>> No.9367736

Me and my friends are going there for friday and saturday. The cosplays we're planning are Castle and Jager from Rainbow Six Siege along with the HECU Marines from Half Life. Don't worry, anon, I'll be able to take it. The gear wasn't too hard to secure anyway for it.

>> No.9368548

I'll be going, it's gonna be my first con actually. I was gonna cosplay but only for one of the days, which would be the best day? I was thinking the last day would be the best since there's not as much going on then but I'd also probably be pretty tired after walking around for 10 hours two days in a row. Thoughts?

>> No.9368621

>>9368548
If you're looking to go to lots of events/demo probably Friday. Saturday feels more packed and people are more inconsiderate of space, but might get you more photos. Honestly anon it depends on you and your cosplay tho.

>> No.9368667

I'm going to be going Sunday (aka worst day) is there still anything going on that day?
I'll be dressed as Elizabeth.

Everytime I cosplay, I always save Sunday for the day I go not on costume. And every time I regret it and wish I was in costume. This year I will probably cosplay all 3 days

>> No.9370744

>>9368667
The only big things Sunday are the finals for gaming championships (Halo, Overwatch, League, etc) and the closing ceremonies. Most people leave early on Sunday since it's not a full day. I didn't even bother buying a Sunday badge this year.

So I've never been to a PAX before. What can I expect?

The panels look pretty meh, but I figured they would be going into it. Seems like PAX is more about the floor life. Is that accurate or am I in for a downer?

>> No.9371356

>>9371351
A lot of the panels are industry based, so like pc building, new game releases, AI stuff etc. The floor life is excellent and imo that's what I go for. You can play all sorts of games pretty much all day, check out tons of new hardware. Super interactive and fun.

>> No.9371371

>>9371356
I second this.
The floor life in PAX is better than any other big-name con. I would like to think PAX is the middle ground between the huge cons like Comic Con and the smaller niche cons.

They have big name companies and titles there, but they are still niche enough to be able to cater to their crowds and give out some actual quality and nice swag. Just google the PAX East Wolfenstein bag that they gave away. It was quality canvas bag that I still use today.

Went to PAX East today and had the shittiest time because I went with a dumbfuck friend who wanted to stay close because its his first convention. My first time at Anime Boston(back in 2013) I never did that shit, my firends pointed me out on things and after that I was going around doing whatever the hell I wanted and we meet up for a bit and then break off and continue doing what we were doing.

Like I said with PAX today it fucking sucked having that dumbass of a friend that didn't want to split up and do whatever we wanted.

>Freind wanted to stay close while going around
>Because of this I missed out a lot on taking pics of cosplayers
>Nintendo panel sucked and friend formed me to try out the Switch which I didn't give a fuck about and then after finishing I got a shit MK8 Deluxe pin which I tossed in the trash
>When we passed by either the Bulletstorm or Nintendo panel, friend sticks around for too long and I wanted to go on
>During one visit at the Nintendo panel I was like 5-6 feet away because I was taking some pics of cosplayers and the dumb fuck calle my cellphone because I was away
>The whoke MK8 at same panel was cringe as fuck and the swag giveaway made me want to lose my shit
>From said giveaway, assholes fucking jump around me trying to grab the prizes constantly bumping into me and any longer I would've gone insane
>Not to mention some asshole spilled coffee onto the floor near me at same panel
>Also dumbass friend wwanted to try Bulletstorm so I had to stay and ait till he's done
>Back at South Station going home he was ordering some food and I was not sure what to order and he tried ordering for mine and I haven't decided and I told him again I have not decided
>MFW this whole shit today

Never again I am going to PAX unless I go with the friends I go with to Anime Boston. At least seeing women cosplay and me taking pictures kept me sane. For fuck sakes I go to conventions to look for cosplaying women. Such a shitty time today.

Also I definitely think PAX is NOT a good con to make friends. At other cons I've gone to the tabletop/games section is where you go to make friends, but here it's so hectic that it's a task in itself just to locate people that need someone to play with or have extra space to play with you. Talking to devs is nice though.
Another good way to make friends would be unique panels that force crowd interaction, but PAX is too big to risk precious room space on niche panels, which is understandable.
Best way to make friends at PAX is to go on 4chan (here) and reddit/wherever the fuck (might be a pax discord or something) and organize meetups.

I was somewhat surprised to see some non-cosplay lolita outfits. I usually expect that at AB, but I guess I should know you folk are just as likely to PAX it up.

>>9388767
Seconded, it was kind of amusing because I was in cosplay for the day and every time my friends would see a lolita they would tap me on the shoulder and say "look anon, dress!".
Kinda made me wish I did it up for the con, but I guess then I would waste the opportunity to dress up as a video game character at a video game convention. I'm pretty sure that's the most times I've had my picture taken in my life, not that I'll probably see any of them. I did get to chat it up with some cool people as a result though, so overall cosplaying was totally worth it.

Blogpost aside, it was small but I was super excited to see a Yooka-Laylee demo.

It looks so dumb and unfashionable but the games were fun as fuck.
Robo Recall was a blast. Any game that lets me play reaper and teleport around a city blasting robots with shotguns is a good time in by book.

>> No.9393038

Then why the fuck do they have this shit out in public?

To me it's a dumb marketing move. They shouldn't want people to see that part of it. They should only have people experience what it is like wearing it, not see what you look like.

Heck, just having a closed space where you don't see people playing it adds a whole mystery box aspect to it.

Then again, I remember going to one VR expo at the World Trade Center across the way, before the BCEC was built. That was in the 90s. I honestly don't think the tech has really come all that far in 20 years. Bit lighter. Better graphics like games in general. Meh.

So everybody can see how light and slick and smooth the new tech is. Sure, you look like a dork in it but people will see the neat new tech and how much fun the person's having and want to try it themselves. I think it'd be kinda lame if you just watched what was happening on a screen without actually getting to see the person doing it irl before you tried it out yourself

Did anybody else catch that massive Overwatch photoshoot that was happening on the 2nd floor? I noticed a stampede of cosplayers walking around in the lobby so I followed them hoping for some pics. A lady with a megaphone stopped us infront of a fucking window on the 2nd floor but I still got some pretty nice pics I think

Yeah, enforcers pushed us out of the booth so we went to one of those enclosed areas by the entrance. About 15 mins in the security guys told us we were a fire hazard. In the end an enforcer led the group to the back of the 3rd floor. Good times.
