Finally crossed antique rose off my list thanks to the anon in the last thread, but now I'm ready to fulfill even more of my dreams!
Everything is in order of priority...
Flower Print Shirring Pinafore JSK: Brown is preferred, but I'd literally take any color!
Velveteen Cross JSK: Brown is preferred, but I'd also take black.
Shirring Princess JSK (2011): Brown is preferred, but I'd take black or navy.
Early Summer Chocolate Strawberry Parfait Shirring JSK: Only want the brown, and only want this cut.
Tartan Check Ribbon Shirring Princess JSK: Only want the brown.
Germaine OP: And once again, brown is preferred, but I'd take black or navy.

Subtracting the dresses that I will always want but are too small up top, and alternate colourways of a few prints I own, this is the last one I'm hunting for.

>>9247517
wow, your style is similar to mine!
I almost flipped at bottom right because I thought it was the Mary Bell op at first, which is a non-urgent dream dress of mine.

I used to have bottom left, but sold it because I don't like brown very much. I hope you can find it! It's nice and fleecy--very warm and well-constructed.

AATP doesn't really release much in brown and their pirate stuff tends to be OTT. Brown is reserved for steampunk, apparently.
Hats can vary secondhand. I've seen them go for over market price, or for $10.
Your best bet is probably settling for offbrand. If you're dead set on AATP, you can probably get brown or pirate, just not both.

I believe I've decided to sell my Innocent World Rose Stained Glass JSK and am offering it here first since I know it's on a lot of gulls' dream lists. It really pains me to let it go, and it's possible that I may just keep it, but it just isn't really my style and likely won't be worn any time soon. If you're interested then leave an email and I'll send you proof photos and we can discuss the price. It's new with tags, never worn, only tried on once. I can't believe this ended for as cheaply as it did; a black one went on Japanese auction last year and got about $800. The value of this release really is dependent upon who is looking for it; if no one want's it, it goes for like $150-200, but if there's a couple people looking for it when one pops up, it will skyrocket. I need some advice pretty fast, sorry for blogging.

My dream dress usually goes for about $800-$1000. I just found someone selling it for a third of that, but in my 3rd favorite colorway.

It's... ok? I don't love the color. I have things that will match it but my favorite colorway makes my heart melt. The other colorways are just... eh. I love the dress, but I don't go all dokidoki.

Unfortunately I will never want to shell out $800-1000 on it because I would be too afraid to wear it at that point. I don't see that price dropping until maybe 5 years from now.

Should I just bite a bullet and get the cheaper, 3rd colorway choice one and put my ideal dream dress to rest? Or just wait however long it takes for my favorite the value to go down, despite the years?

She is selling it for 1/3rd the cost because she just wants a quick sale for some holiday funds and doesn't care, however I don't see this colorway going for much more than that in the western market, maybe +100. In the eastern market though it goes for the usual 800.

What do?

I did this once, almost exact same situation except I was unable to coord my 3rd fav colorway, while my first would have been very easily coorded. I went for it and got the 4rd fav colorway for cheap and never wore it. But, I was able to sell it back for the same price at least!

>> No.9292270

>>9292251
I've been in a similar situation before, and honestly I say go for it. If it's such a good deal, then you'll make your money back no issue if it doesn't work out and you need to resell it. Like the anon above me has said, it may sit and you may not wear it, but there's also a chance that once you get it the color could look great on you and be easier than expected to work with. I've experienced both, and I gotta say, I'm usually happy about the purchase.

>> No.9292288

>>9292254
I'm sorry, I don't want to say just yet because someone might buy it from underneath me.

>>9292266
>>9292270
Thank you for the fast feedback! That was my gut instinct, so it's nice to hear that you both had positive experiences with at least making your money back.

I apologize in advance for more blogging: I am typically not looking to really profit or make back 100% of what I buy, however I am dreading a bit that after I buy it, if I ever do decide to sell it I could potentially lose about $100+. It typically seems to be everyone's 3rd favorite colorway. The top 2 fav colorways always go for about 500 in the west, and this one has never even popped up for sale but the color in general is not very popular so I worry it might be hard to resell if I need to. I suppose I could always try to sell it to closet child if I don't want it and ever go to Japan, because I know for a fact they would buy it for 500 as I have seen auctions go for around 800.

I really wish I just loved the colorway more. But Despite feeling rather eh about it, it's going to be so long until my favorite colorway will drop in price, if ever. I can't help but wonder if I should just wait regardless because owning a version for the sake of owning it might not make me happy and also be a risk?

I hate that I am agonizing over this holy shit my priorities, but I never saw this dress for so little (it's about 100 under retail and it's new with tags, she really just wants it gone).

It happens when you have a lot of dresses, wear them a lot and experiment a lot. Anything pinnable gets taken off or moved around, even waist ties sometimes gets removed if it's the way of a cardi or whatever. If you don't have some kind of system set up to catch all the extra bits and return them to the dress once you've done the laundry, things can get pretty messy pretty fast, especially if you do it very often with very many different dresses, or if you happen to move houses, a box of detachable things can easily get misplaced.

Or, if you have a dress that's cute except it has an apron that makes people do a double take everytime you wear it, you might take it off and then forget where you put it when you want to resell the dress six years later.

I have a large decorative box dedicated to remove-ables. When not in use, I always keep them there. It would be hard for me to lose something. If I can spend hundreds on dresses, a $6 box is well worth the investment.

Think about last year's wardrobe threads, some anons mentioned upwards of 60 dresses.

60 pairs of waist ties, detachable bows, brooches, detachable chains and other assorted detachables. It's more like you need 10 boxes sorted by colour, one giant box sounds like a good way to not being able to find something because it's buried under 59 other things.

Around 20 dresses here with no issue yet. I can't imagine 60, however. Maybe getting one of those set of plastic drawers and labeling them accordingly.
Mine are sorted the konmari way. Basically folded and neatly sorted by color (I have a lot of color in my wardrobe so I'm not just staring at a box of black waist ties). Chains and small bows are kept in clear labelled baggies. They aren't just thrown in a box.

Labelled baggies, hanging organisers, whatever works. I think past five dresses there needs to be some system to sort out which detachables belong to which dress, I just picture some of these girls not really having one until it dawns on them that they can't find the apron or bow or something to a dress.

Anyway, you never really know, they might have taken good care of everything else except this one dress is the one where their grandma washed the waist ties in bleach or some other such drama. All I wanted to say was that losing detachables aren't really that incomprehensible, lots of things can happen.

2017 is already starting amazing for me, I was so happy when I saw the Metamorphose Flare Coat on Closet Child today~! A definite dream jacket, and while I had pined for the military green version, honestly the black will go with way more. It's missing the gold cord but that's an easy replacement. Such a good price too!

I'm curious, how did 2016 go for people in terms of dream dresses? SO it has been a crazy few weeks but I wound up buying it. The seller dropped the price again significantly since I was so indecisive, which I just couldn't believe. I could not say no.

I just got it and not only is it perfect but... I actually kind of completely adore it?! The color is so lovely and unlike anything I have ever seen/owned but it fits perfectly in my wardrobe. Also the price is insane, for it and the matching HB I got it for far less than what it retailed for, never mind the fact that it goes for about $800 second hand. It was NWTs too.

I am just... so happy with it. So thank you so much for your input. It really helped me and I love it! Even if I get my first colorway choice in the future, I feel I will struggle over the fact of if I should sell it or just have two because I wound up liking this color so much.

You guys have never had an auction cancelled on you before the end time, then.
Western auctions this isn't so common, but I've had quite a few J auctions pulled out from underneath me anywhere from days before the end to just a couple hours before end because either the seller didn't want to wait that long or changed their mind due to what looked like lack of interest.

>> No.9306936

>>9306909
>or changed their mind due to what looked like lack of interest.

Most, if not all auction sites, show pageviews, bookmarks and how many people are watching an item (if they have that kind of system) to sellers. I don't think you can infer their reasons for taking down the auction, unless you actually asked?

Imo online auction format is terrible, it should work like an actual auction - It goes live at a certain time and if you miss it, you miss it. It should be five/seven/however many days of an advertised listing, and an option for BIN if that's what the seller wants. The people who really want it are gonna put in the time to snipe it at the end anyway.

>> No.9306945

>>9306936
Although this really isn't too heavily enforced in Japan, if there's no bid then it's not too uncommon for them to take the auction down or even raise the price for some unknown reason. Putting in a safety bid is generally a good idea, especially on western auctions that give you the option to take the auction down before there are bids.

In general I'll bid once or a couple of times on an item before it ends, but will stay well below my max bid. This just makes sure the auction stays up, then will snipe it like usual. Besides, there's no point in "putting in the time" to snipe an auction that has auto-extension, though I wouldn't bid too early on those so people don't clash their maxes early on.

When someone says "why push the price for someone who is more dedicated" all I hear is "I want the item cheap and feel like I deserve it more than someone who is willing to pay more".

>> No.9306960

>>9306936
>it should work like an actual auction

You missed the part where irl real auctions sometimes don't end on time because of last minute bidders.

Interestingly enough, yja does implement extension of ending time to prevent sniping. If you bid within the last 5 minutes, the ending time is extended by another 5 minutes, giving other people time to react and bid more. I've seen some fierce bidwars where the auction closes a full hour or more after the original ending time because people kept bidding over each other.

I actually quite like that system. The people who really want it are given the opportunity to prove exactly how much they want it with their wallets, rather than how lucky their sniping bots were.

>> No.9306995

>>9306945
>if there's no bid then it's not too uncommon for them to take the auction down or even raise the price for some unknown reason.
I suspect it's to do with the pageview to bid ratio. If there's a lot of interest from lurkers, they know they're going to get into a last 30 sec bidding war between snipers, which they probably perceive as less profitable so they up the price to compensate.

Or maybe they think they've priced it wrong and made the item into a lemon.

>When someone says "why push the price for someone who is more dedicated" all I hear is "I want the item cheap and feel like I deserve it more than someone who is willing to pay more".

I don't really get this? How is someone willing to pay more if they just stick in a lazy bid and get out sniped anyway? That's what annoys me; People who think they're the only person who's noticed the auction and that putting in a sneaky low bid will work, or bidding when they have no intention of watching the last ten minutes. Why bother? I don't get why someone would make something they're not really that interested in more expensive for someone else. I know some people do that out of spite when they can't match the price, though.

What you're describing you do wouldn't bother me, because you still engage in the auction at the end.

>>9306960
well, actually thinking about it, I've never seen a real auction that had a time limit per lot and didn't end in the way you describe; until someone concedes they're not willing to pay more than the other person. So I guess what I described isn't like a real auction at all kek.

>> No.9307008

>>9306995
>When someone says "why push the price for someone who is more dedicated" all I hear is "I want the item cheap and feel like I deserve it more than someone who is willing to pay more".

I say this because the original point made is how anons are annoyed at people bidding up an auction before an appropriate sniping time. If a person bids early on and it's a large/serious bid, then the original comment came off sounding like they were just mad that they didn't wait to put that bid in so they couldn't luck out by timing and get the item cheaper. If the item is something worth the money, and there is interest on it, then it's likely to go up either way; whether it's early bidding or sniping. It's more common to see early bidding in Japanese auctions than in western auctions, but I'll always prefer sniping in western auctions. In J auctions it doesn't matter nearly as much with how much the auctions favor the seller and with options like auto-extension.

>> No.9307049

>>9307008
>If the item is something worth the money, and there is interest on it, then it's likely to go up either way; whether it's early bidding or sniping.

Actually, interest is directly correlated with the amount of bids on an item. People have a pretty intuitive grasp of supply and demand; make people think something is in short supply and massive demand and they'll adjust how much they're willing to pay accordingly. Auction sites are designed specifically to exploit this because it benefits the site. Even IRL auctioneers speak the way they do because it tricks people into bidding more than they originally planned to pay.

Ebay is especially insidious, why else would it notify people who've been outbid? when you're the highest bidder it even says "But you might be outbid raise your max bid now!" and the "X views per hour" thing; It's to purposefully incense people and create artificial urgency and make them irrationally bid against one another way before the end of the auction, because perceived competition always increases both the amount people are willing to pay, and the amount they actually pay.

That isn't what I was mad about. It's because auctions with bids are the first ones who appear in yahoo auction's angelic pretty tag. So if you've got two idiots who bid in 500 yen increases 5 days before the auction ends, the desired item will be one of the first things other lolitas see for 5 days. I have up to $300 I could spend on it, I don't mind haggling. Just because it doesn't show up often doesn't mean it costs more. She never even bothered a counter offer, or ask what she paid for it or what she wanted for it. But all that means is I have $300 to put towards something else. No one's loss but hers ya know?

>> No.9312882

I get it when someone makes a low offer when you're selling a dress for 300usd that normally goes for 100usd. I think it's weird when someone offers 10usd less than the asking price.

>> No.9312885

>>9312882
I think that's inredibly stupid. If I sell my dress for 300 I have my reasons why. If I would consider selling it for 100 I wouldn't price it that high.

>> No.9312886

>>9312885
I didn't say make a 100usd offer but it would be normal to offer something lower than 300, why would someone offer 290 instead of 300 tough? That hardly makes a difference. You are claiming that it's rude in lolita haggle and but that's just not true.

>> No.9312892

>>9312886
The original anon >>9310828 offered 100 bucks for a 300 usd listing. That's what I'm talking about. Also, as I said here >>9312160 I simply think it's rude if it's that low. I think it's okay to try and get a 30 usd discount, but I still think it's kinda rude, since lolita is a luxury hobby. Either you have the money or not.

>> No.9312915

>>9312892
Do you participate in literally any other hobby where you resell stuff? Haggling within reason is par for the course. Not rude at all.

OK >>9310828 here. Meta OP girl didn't have any price. There were two of those dresses up on auction for less then $100 but would of came out to about $100 after shipping and as fees. The last few times it came up I've seen it go for $100. The dress itself was a 10,000 yen LP dress. That's why I offered her that. In fact, aside from that one French girl, even western sellers sell it for around $100. I have up to $300 to spend. Haggling especially when you say "I don't know what this dress goes for make me an offer" isn't rude at all. It's normal to say "hey, that's a bit low I paid x amount, I would consider something closer to that" or even "I have another offer for x" and then I could easily make a better offer. I have done haggling as a buyer and a seller in lolita for years. In fact, it pisses me off when people refuse to haggle and just say "oh I don't like your price." OK make me an offer and get this shit off my hands because I'm tired of it taking up space in my wardrobe.

>> No.9313006

One in black just sold yesterday on Y!J for $200 before any fees and shipping. The other colorways go for about $100, but the black gets between $200-300.

I'm not any of the above anons and I'm not arguing with you, but this dress doesn't go for $100. Maybe it did at the time of release, but for as long as this dress has been out the black has gone for above retail, even in LJ days. The seller may have reasons why she didn't respond to you, such as just not seeing the email or having been busy over the weekend.

>> No.9313026

>>9312916
no one gives a fuck how much you "have to spend" if you weren't planning to spend or offer that on the dress anyway kek

if you're this pissed that a seller didn't respond to your offer on what seems to be a dress you somewhat want, maybe don't try to haggle next time and go above market price

it's pretty damn cringey for you to keep responding with the same "i had $300 to spend!!" shit when in reality you just made an offer of $100. the seller probably got a better offer and couldn't be bothered dealing with you, since it's a sought-after dress

Masquerade Theater originally came out in 2010 as a JSK, OP, and skirt, has a special in-store bustle front JSK that came in black only, and then a couple years ago the original JSK cut (what anon posted) was rereleased at the Yokohama store and online. It's rare, but somewhat attainable rare if you've got the cash to throw at it. Unlike the red JSK which I've only seen for sale a handful of times.

I know because it's my dream dress too.
