I mean to be honest it would be nice to read to kids and stuff but no kid wants to be taught about lolita, especially not sick kids. That's self centered as hell. She can do that in her own time if she really wanted, she doesn't have to involve others because that's just trying to make it a big spectacle. I've read to foster kids while wearing lolita but I mean I didn't mention the fashion at all (kids don't give a fuck they just like the way it looks at that's literally it), I was just there to volunteer and that's what I wore because I thought it might bring some extra smiles (it did).

first of all, if a kid is too young to read, reading to them is still immensely important because it exposes them to vocabulary and also gets them interested in the concept. parents not reading to their kids is a huge contribution to why they might fall behind at an early age.

second, if they are old enough to be reading some or all of the books themselves thenyou are just there to help them and encourage them.

Both actually, princess costumes and some elaborate lolita coordinates made to represent popular princesses. Parents love it because to them they're all costumes and i don't try to correct them about the intricacies of muh precious japanese fashion

I don't see an issue with it so long as it isn't self-centered. Don't teach kids about lolita like you're spreading some kind of gospel unless they actually show an interest and inquire about it.

I don't see it as a big deal honestly. Everyone is different. Not all kids would like it, but doesn't mean there are kids that would love to see that not all grown ups dress is boring clothes.

From what I gather from this post, she was ALREADY helping the kids without lolita, so it wouldn't be lolita centered. It'd just be helping kids while dressed in cute clothing that some little girls in particular may really admire. "I'm being visited by a princess!" or "I wanna wear clothes like that when I grow up!" kind of thing.

Hey there, teacher here. Reading to children is actually a big stepping stone in literacy development.
What I have an issue with in OPs pic is that she seems self centered and will most likely make the whole experience about her and her coord. It bothers me when people make service events and charity events about them. Half the people I know that brag on social media would not even try to give back to the community if they cpuldnt take selfies or tell Facebook.

I'm in 2 cosplay-related meetup groups and they both do charity stuff with no dressing up involved (5ks, toy drives, food drives, cleaning up parks, etc).
I wish more lolitas were normal about it and didn't think every comm-related thing had to be lifestyler level. You can just do stuff together as a group of people with similar interest. Like friends.

It would be community service if those wearing lolita held a tea party for the children who are sick. It would be if those wearing lolita spent the day constructing gift bags with snacks and toys, and then went to the hospital dressed up to hand them out.

this is a quick rehash of things other anons have already detailed in the past, but children were dressed in miniature versions of adult clothes between the 16th and 18th centuries--especially if they were of royal descent or high class. after that time, as adult fashion moved towards a more streamlined, fabric-conserving design world, people continued to gravitate towards ruffled or lacy, bottom-heavy designs for their children. probably because we like to see our kids as princes/princesses, or maybe because of the prevalence of wealthy, well-dressed kids in European art history/religious trends like Catholic baptismal dress and shit.

tl;dr kids clothing is the only modern mainstream stuff in the west that, on average, is cropped to the waist/poofy in the bottom and has ruffles, lace detail, pintucks, etc. because clothing specifically made for children came about in the pre-victorian era when all those trends were popular with normal (albeit wealthy) adults.

Lolita Amino is okay, especially since new rules were put in place to prevent (most) useless posts. You can join Adult EGL--it requires proof coords but it's kind of dead. It'll probably pick back up soon. I'd say join both, since everyone on Adult EGL is on LA but not vice versa.

I've actually done this before because I run a petite and it varies greatly, but it's not a great idea.

Sweaters, coats, and cardigans aren't made with an adult in mind and the shoulders will always be very tight, since it's for their frame.

I've gotten XL girl dresses and they've actually somehow been too big because they're made for these round, chubby little girls.

It's really just a better idea to go get some cheap cute stuff off of taobao. It has nothing to do with being a "fatty piggu", it's just that a XL kids body and an adults small body are not similar measurements.

I don't know about other other anon but there is actual fibromalygia which is bad but treatable, and "muh fibromalygia" which people have when it's convenient, don't want treatment (or are living "undiagnosed bc muh corrupt health system") and use lolita/cosplay/other expensive hobby as a "distraction."
Tl;dr fibromalygia is generally a diagnosis for whiners

I'd love to be proven wrong, but it's barely a diagnosis, asfaik it's what you get diagnosed with when doctors can't find anything else wrong with you. And the treatments for it are all stuff like "Exercise," "relax and sleep" and "Eat healthy".
For the most part, I cannot take it seriously, though part of that is my own bias dealing with people with it, whose fibro mysteriously kicks up whenever they have to do something they don't want to do.
