Finally a Finland thread! I'm not sure where to ask this since Aniki is pretty dead and Kazoku foruumi doesn't work on my phone (is it dead?). Assuming this place is much more active considering Finnish cosplay and cons than any others.

What is the conseus of bought cosplays? I can't sew or anything and I was thinking of buying my forst cosplays. Do people look down on you if you tell them (if they ask whether you made it or if you bought it) that you bought it. I was thinking of first buying the cosplay that resembles the character the best, then buy items and textiles to enchance it.

From the looks of it most ready to be bought cosplays lack wigs, shoes or props, so I could start to look for those or try to make them myself.
Basicly my thought is this, starting with bought cosplays and add missing parts and make it the best I can. Then progress little by little by doing props by myself, fixing the character wigs, putting more and more effort on doing most of the cosplay by myself and relying on bought coslays less.

Buying a cosplay is completely fine as long as you don't enter competitions with it, and don't try to claim it as handmade. It's a completely valid way of enjoying cosplay and there's nothing wrong with it.

Yeah, I would never claim a boght cosplay as my own or enter a competition with it. If I remember correctly, yous cosplay has to be 75% minimum done by yourself to even consider entering. I'm more lowkey about cosplay, especially when I have never done it. Unless as dressing up as Luigi during Penkkarit counts.

Someone was telling about how the Danish WCS team was acting really arrogant towards the staff like yelling at them and then getting mad when Finland won the Brother award instead of them. As an interesting detail the team in question were the two Danish cosplayers who judged our last ECG preliminaries.

I think bought cosplays are ok. Especially if they're school uniforms and other simple stuff. They're so much cheaper than buying and making a school jacket.

Just iron the shit out of it. Please. I'm begging you. Bought costumes aren't bad as long as they're ironed. And maybe do some adjustments like slimming it down from the waist and such. Simple stuff.

No I'm not and I'm not even going. Atleast the maids seem to all be decent. No one looks super awful even tho they could have better makeup, wig styling and accessories I don't think their face is a problem. There are even few really cute ones but that will depend on your own taste. I don't know why they should be anything "above the average". Maybe I don't care of looks as much as others but these are all normal nice looking girls and perfectly fine. The butlers are a different thing tho, they would need so much grooming.

Not trying to deliberately be a dick, I was just really disappointed in the overall quality of the skits. Some of them did have their moments, sure, but on average it was pretty bad. WCS was a disappointment too but at least the winners were nowhere near as bad as the others.

I love the Rose of Versailles pair. Love the dresses, especially Marie Antoinette's. Oscar was wonderful too. So happy to see love for the series. Oh, and the Sailor Moon too. Chibiusa was amazing. I'm not a fan of Overwatch, as in I have not played the game, but the last pair looked amazing. Overall, I think cosplays looked great.

Was somehow pretty hard to find cosplayers in the venue since there isn't a general spot in Tampere-talo that everyone passes through (and that'd have good lighting). Has anyone noticed how much diffrence does it make to use make up while cosplaying? Not saying those that who don't use look ugly, but those who do, look always better. Even tiniest use makes a difference compared to non make up face.

It's because drawn characters are wearing makeup by default. Their eyes are almost always outlined in thick black lineart, and their features are either over or underemphasized. Human features are just too bland for their colorful, graphic costumes.
