Cult Party Kei or even Yumekawaii, they both have a nice aesthetic. I love CPK's creepy doll-like style, and the freedom and glitter of yumekawaii.

Agreed, so much. The pastel/peignoir thing shows up in other fashions; the shabby antique doll aspect of cult party was very unique to that style and is the trademark cult party look iny mind.

>>9155194 said there was/is no norm as it was never really a fashion just a collection of looks who's main common element was that they were thrifted from the Virgin Mary store (previously Cult Party store). From that came outfits of which many had similar elements so we in the west perceived it as a fashion but glomped onto the rose crown and peignoir thing. I will say this though, outfits like pic related were more prevalent around that time (pic is dated 2012), there were quite a few more creative looks around at that time, using layering of different textured fabrics and such.

well, technically Ari (owner of original cult party store and the Virgin Mary) came up with the name, but I don't think she intended it to become big or anything.

The source on that is from a conversation the guy from Lactose Intoler-Art had with Ari, that he posted on his blog. (i'll have to try and find it later) Then we (a group of us who were into dolly kei originally) picked up on the name to distinguish it from dolly kei.

The name "dolly kei" came from an article on style arena where they described the Grimoire look. Style arena just names "tribes" arbitrarily and it is not known by that name in Japan but it was picked up by Westerners since style arena was one of the few sites at the time that offered English language tokyo fashion news.

the more you know

Lmao for real? It's American retro kid's clothing inspired and nothing to do with pastel styles. CPK is completely different territory. Btw there didn't seem to be any name for it.

If you are new to jfashion then ok. But it was so popular when Ayumi was wearing it on Zipper a few years ago it was impossible to miss. Though I thought it was funny when Ayumi started her own brand and, wait for it......got a white model, and she looked like a regular white girl in her childhood clothes and lost most of the appeal of this style.
