>Abunai is in 16 days from now, and ticket prices are going up this Friday and you only pay for them at the door after this.
>ACC is in 17 days from now. If you want to attend any photo shoots or autographing sessions, make sure to buy tickets for these beforehand.

Next five /cgl/ related events:
>Tropicon (August 13th, Duisburg, Germany) is a pool/beach cosplay party located at a 30 minute drive from Venlo (LB). Tickets are €5 and can be purchased at the door.
>TomoParty (August 20th, Ewijk GLD) is a cosplay themes pool/beach party. Keep in mind you are not allowed to bring any alcohol but it will be served there.
>Abunai! (August 26th - 28th, Veldhoven NB) is the other big anime convention. Hotel rooms are all long gone and there's still no schedule available.
>Amsterdam Comic Con (August 27th & 28th, Amsterdam NH) is a comic fair very similar to DCC, except this one is hosted by Showmasters. Tickets start at €15 a day.
>Elfia (September 24rd & 25th, Arcen LB) is an outdoor medieval/fantasy convention. The programming is still in the making so there's not a lot I can really say about it yet.

anyhow:
- thanks for the spell correct, good catch
- while the box heights aren't really fixable I'll look into spacing the names, thanks!
- the notes arn't there to stay, it's a temp. version for online, this version is also smaller than the final pdf.

Don't sweat it, sounds like you already had your hands full dealing with the mandatory late entries, sudden changes and what not.

>While the box heights aren't really fixable I'll look into spacing the names, thanks!
This makes me wonder which program you are using. While I doubt anyone else would notice or care, it shouldn't be too hard to fix these issues in Illustrator. I use one from ebay it's spandex with steel boning, you need steel boning to not look like a square because plastic boning bends too easily. Also try to find one that doesnt squish your hips (mostly they have some extra space on the side), because you can get upsidedown muffintop. They're also great as a waist trainer. Hope this helps.

abunai has a tendency to run late. So 8 becomes 9 and will propably ends around 11. That's the problem, they don't. Instead they look (and act) a lot more mature than they actually are, buy alcohol without any problems and pretty much always wear make-up that makes it a lot harder to estimate their real age. Add beer goggles into the equation and suddenly it's no surprise that some guys fall for it. Well that, or they simply don't care because sex.
Although I vaguely remember something about Abunai using paper wristbands for underaged visitors, so at least that's something.

Oh Anon, if I had a choice I sure wish I could have done this in Indesign or Illustator. The person originally responsible for this stepped away because of personal reasons. So, I was given the task. And what I got was PSD files in which nothing was layered for the extensive editing it needed, almost everything minus the events on the bars was a flat image(yes, all the hours too). It wasn't even on print size yet.
But hey, the event bars which I did myself, are actually perfectly editable.
For next year I'll surely prepare a even more editable version to make things easier but for now I did what I could.

I sincerely don't want to give the person flack for it because they aren't part of the staff like I am. The one-on-one coordination this thing requires is massive so it'd have been a intense job for someone without the required direct connections.
Basically, the person gave the design to us and would originally also do the fill in stuff, but ended up backing out as mentioned, I wasn't on the project until that stage. Only then I found out what the state of the given file was, and I had to boost it out as soon as possible for everyone eagerly waiting.

>> No.9139056

>>9139012
Agree. It's fine for certain types of posters, but this is not the thing you want do in photoshop.

But why would abunai-anon not do this in Indesign. Looking at average production times (printing and transport) at various printers in the Netherlands there is still enough time, even more if you choose a short production time (some will even do overnight, less than 24 hours) for a very decent price.

>> No.9139057

>>9139012
Posters in Photoshop: yes, but it only makes sense if you make something that does not contain text at all, contains fonts that absolutely can't be shared ever or need intricate effects. Anything else makes it a bother and a resource hog to do something like this entirely in PS.
Besides that: if you need bleed or slug space, your out of luck, unless you factor that in when you decide on the canvas size.

So yes, it's perfectly possible to do markup work in Photoshop, but why would you want to?

Teachers also keeped hammering that they would only let the best of the best through, only 2 were through that day, a guy that attended art academy in England, and a chick that already had her own photography company but wanted the artsy label to it. Nothing wrong with a training year, but they said that that doesn't guarantee you getting into the academy the next year, so no thanks.

Cosplay's main problem is not your lack of skill, not the money or time, but that you will have to compromise to the design.
An OC does not have this issue. If something is structurally unsound, one just changes the design. Al I see in OCs are elaborate costumes with some backstory. The costumes can be impressive, but there is just this gap on where you are not forced to compromise.

>Cosplay props may not hinder other visitors in any way. This is mostly a restriction in size and dimensions. There are no strict guidelines, this will be judged by staff and stewards. Obstructive cosplaying props have to be kept in the cloak room and can only be used at the cosplay competitions.

From the somewhat negative Pastebin entry:
>Amsterdam Comic Con is a Comic Con style fair organised by Showmasters and held in the Amsterdam Rai. This means it's different from traditional cons in the Netherlands; instead of a shitload of events and workshops you'll find yourself in a giant dealer room with special celebrity guests who can bother for an autograph and/or a picture. While it can still be fun, a lot (if not all) dealers tend to raise their prices during cons. As such you could save yourself quite some money by simply visiting their physical stores instead. After all, ben je nou Nederlander of niet? Day tickets cost €16 for entry from 11am, and €26 for entry from 9am. Some panels require a "small fee" if you want to attend them, and the costs of each photo shoot depends on the guest and ranges from €21 and €76 and does NOT include an autograph. Yes, you'll have to pay up to double the price for a picture and an autograph...

>> No.9144859

>>9144853
I understand you have to pay for entry, autographs and photo's. Also, for merch. I know how comic cons work. But guest panels, no matter where you go are always free to attend. Asking money for that is ridiculous. Don't tell me how it works, I know how it works. Having to pay to hear guests talk? Seriously?

Also you can call my post a negative pastebin entry, but that's what this forum is about

I'm not calling your post a negative Pastebin entry, I simply quoted the Dutch Con Schedule Pastebin found in the OP. Also it's quite common having to pay for guest panels at (foreign) comic cons. Plus don't forget Showmasters is British, so it's not all that surprising that go their way instead of the Dutch approach where you only pay for certain workshops.

Showmasters is actual trash. In my opinion, that is. I went to their Sherlocked con and there was basically nothing to do, except a costume & prop 'museum', a tank, a cab, and a bus you couldn't enter, if you wanted to pay just the entrance fee. Maybe one or two panels were free. Everything else costs you money and it sucks.

I got sneaked into the party by some of the guests and was disappointed. When you're used to Deshima, an uninterested DJ behind a macbook with some balloons and simple 'discolights' (think EXPO shop quality), then this was bland. Real bland.

Looking at other Showmasters cons, they're not very different. I gave them feedback but they don't do anything with that. Ok.

This is the reason I dislike Comic-Con like "conventions". They make you spend money so you can spend money buying shit at inflated prices. Of course if you want to do anything else rather than spending money, you can do so but only after spending some money. The entire concept is nothing but a cash grab, especially by Dutch con standards. The worst part of all is that people actually seem to like these "cons", opening the door for other cons to pull the same crap as it slowly becomes the new standard.
