Or VK thread. Or simply Manasama thread.

I never thought I'd live to see Malice Mizer live, but now that I did I don't know what impossible thought to cling on to next.

Amazing and amazingly and painfully short. They have such a great chemistry on stage together, it's such a waste to reunite for only 3 songs. Or 4 if you count Au Revoir instrumental that played after they left the stage. The audience kept standing there and singing even after house lights came on and roadies stayed packing up the stage. Very beautiful and very painful, everyone was in denial that that was really it.

I've seen a good deal of old washed up rockers come back for forced cringefest "reunions". With Malice it felt like all pieces of the puzzle finally came together after years of trying to push in them the wrong way. I refuse to believe that they don't realise that.

I doubt any fancams will surface. Japan is an absolute no photo land at the concerts (and that's for the better really, I want to punch people so hard when 3/4 of the audience is staring at their phones like idiots instead of watching the show). I saw an official photog up on the balcony during MdM set but I don't know if there was any filming done.

>I want to punch people so hard when 3/4 of the audience is staring at their phones like idiots instead of watching the show
i hold my phone up and glance at it to see if it is framed halfway decently. i am a photo/video addict, it is definitely a problem, and why i cannot use common apps (my phone is always full of precious images and video clips).

i look forward to whatever emerges from the professional photog, and i encourage anyone who was there to blog about it! memories change drastically over time, even important memories.

>>9133338
We can't be friends anon. But admission of the problem is the first step to recovery! And I totally understand the urge, but it's both not worth it from the technical point (blurry poor quality photos or shaky footage with blown out sound) and really annoying for the others, especially when you're at least a few rows back and all you see is a wall of phone screens.

I'm a 50/50 person when it comes to photos. I love to snap a few pictures real quick but then phone goes down so I'm not bothering anyone. I just hate the idea of going somewhere and not getting at least a few pictures to remember it by, especially if it was something this big.

Are there any pictures of their performance even?

I don't remember if I ever saw or heard anything by them.

>> No.9134323

>>9134316
They basically took some pictures backstage together and that was it. All that's really left is the audio someone recorded from the audience and what few photos were released. According to what I could find, X JAPAN reuniting basically killed SKIN and everyone sort of forgot about it and when they do remember it, they're all too busy to get it started again.

Christ, this was almost 10 years ago..

Thanks, now I kind of remember watching some live video back then, but yeah, that was incredibly 10 years ago.
I always knew SKIN wasn't gonna last though, too much ego clashing.

As for recordings, pics, etc, I really appreciate bootleg recordings, and I wish every band would allow people to record their shows, like the grateful dead did.
It's not like people will stop buying official releases because of bad quality bootlegs. Bootlegs are mostly something hardcore fans can enjoy, since casual listeners won't bother listening to bad quality live takes.

Well, in fact, sometimes I've heard bootlegs (or "terekos") that sound better than actual official live recordings, but I digress.

Makes me kind of sad too thinking about the age of Jrock and now how I rarely remember it exists and most fans migrated to kpop when it boomed. If Japan wasn't so restrictive when it came to embracing foreign audiences and providing them with easier ways to view their media, I think Jrock would still be big now.

I mean, I know for me if I wanted to see Jrock musicians on Japanese music shows I had to rely on Keyhole player and hope to heaven and hell that it worked because otherwise I was screwed. The only shows being recorded at the time were for big names like Arashi who had their own websites dedicated to recording their appearances.

Even now I don't think it's as easy? I may be out of the loop but you don't really find reliable Japanese TV streaming as compared to Kpop who at first had fans streaming the shows and once it caught on, the television channels themselves made their own streams and embraced foreign audiences. That's why kpop took off like it did and is still going strong because they tour more, they promote more, and there's easier access to them through media, especially for English speakers.

Mana had an aesthetics entry from the old Mana website that forced you to play a video game before you could enter, many years ago where he talked about this 'Maatin' person and how he appeared to him. It was an obscure little entry and nobody was sure who 'Maatin' (katakana) was and if it was Martin or Matin or anything. Shortly after, that cute drawing appeared flashing in aesthetics.
I haven't been able to check old versions of mana-sama.com with the archive. It redirects to midi-nette.

i've often wondered to what degree they enjoyed the various roles they played in the band. the change dir en grey went through made me realize that stage personas are not always created or even enjoyed by the artist, except when they are (Shinya still crossdresses and has remained fairly femme in comparison to the others, pic related, but again, how much of that is self-expression and how much of it is publicity?).

Mana seems to have taken it seriously but then again, all we know about him is his persona. either it's an expression of who he really is or he is very dedicated to preserving this image while he lives as a completely different kind of person in private.

so much of visual kei is built on image and stage persona, which is much of the appeal, but i cannot help wondering about the people beneath the glamour.

I think, after the MM breakup/hiatus announcement, each one went into different directions and probably didn't see each other a lot, I especially get this vibe from Mana and Kozi, not because they hated each other but because they were busy working on their own projects, Mana with Moi dix Mois and Moitie, and Kozi with Eve of Destiny touring around the world and his solo career.
I think Yu-ki simply decided to step back from the beginning and do something else, away from the spotlight. He probably lives the most normal life, but then again he might be a real vampire. He was in contact with both Klaha and Kozi. Yu-ki was featured or at least mentioned in some old Klaga fanclub magazines, and I believe the song "Chocolate" from Nostal Lab was written for Yu-ki.
On the other hand, Yu-ki made a semi-comeback to music in 2004 with Kozi's Memento single, where Yu-ki wrote the lyrics, as it was a song dedicated to Kami.
Kozi also remained in contact with both Gackt and Tetsu.
Mana seems to be the one that isolated himself, but again, it might be because he was immersed in his own world, doing his stuff (Mana was a hell lot more active back in 2002/2003 than he is now), and not necessarily because they couldn't see each other.

Both Mana and Kozi are really into gothic culture, so I think their stage persona isn't too different from their real life self, at least in terms of tastes when it comes to dressing or aesthetics in general.
Tetsu, Gackt and Klaha, all drastically changed their looks when they left MM. Tetsu went 180 and went from being a curly long-haired blonde glamorous goth vocalist to being a ghetto rapper, then he kind of neutered himself when he formed Zigzo and went for a more normal "alternative rock" look.
Gackt can be argued that he remained visual for some time after MM, and I think Gackt really likes theatrics, but at his core, he wanted to be a pop star, away from dramatic goth costumes and makeup. Same with Klaha.
