One thing I hate is cosplayers posting WIPs to 'ask for concrit' but sperg out the second you give them any concrit. I can sugarcoat like nobody's business but if your satin skirt is glued together with mod podge and you specifically ask for help, you have to accept that people will tell you that you need to improve.

As for cons, I just really hate neckbeards who latch onto people and follow them around the whole time. You'd think they'd get the damn hint after being repeatedly asked to leave, but that just means you're tsundere and want it secretly~ and they keep on tailing you like a lost whale until Mummy comes to pick them up.
Maybe I'm just incredibly unlucky and nobody else really has that as a recurring problem, idk.

Most con raves are shit, most room parties (the ones I've been to, at least) have a distinctly weeby vibe, and the whole point of the damn con is that it's about anime.
I just don't understand people like that either, you want to party so bad then go to a nightclub. You'll have better music and better drinks.

Smelly people
Drunk people
People being too loud or screaming
Blocking the path in the dealer room, ether for photos or with large costumes/props, both should be banned in dealer room. If dealers have a booth babe there for photos, she needs to be IN the booth, not moving out to the floor to block traffic flow.
'Test' photos that are nothing more than a wig or lenses, basically begging for likes.
Tumblr. The whole site. If all of tumblr stayed home, cons might not suck.

My boyfriend's brother bought a huge Proton Cannon prop for an Iron Man costume, despite it only appearing in the MvC video games. Not only was it a bitch to carry around (it wasn't heavy but it was quite large), but it was also poorly made.

To make matters worse, a friend of ours was with us who went as Renji from Bleach but had a huge prop for Zabimaru's Bankai form which was even worse because one of us had to carry the snake-head while he remained close to make sure nothing snapped or broke.

See I feel stuff like this does work. In character interactions, such as calling a person by their name and asking them an in character question, makes for a remarkable ice breaker. The trick is picking up cues and knowing when to push the antics along or break character and be a normal person.

Most in-character cosplayers don't practice this

Convention elitism always pisses me off. Meaning, elitism around how to enjoy a convention - people who very clearly think they're better than other weebs because they don't go to panels or only buy official merchandise from the dealers hall (instead of artist alley merch). People who think it makes them cool to not participate in certain aspects of conventions.

It's like, get off your high horse. We are all at a shitty weeb con. If I'm paying this much for travel, hotel, and tickets, I am going to enjoy everything I possibly can. How can you possibly be a hipster about something so entrenched in enthusiasm.

Waist training doesn't work if you have 20lbs of fat to even get to your waist. It looks bad on fat people, they look boxy and have their rolls of fat bulging at the top of the corset. Wear shapewear, unless the character you're cosplaying as wears a corset

This is why you test fit your costumes as soon as possible. This is why you don't wait until you are out on the con floor to see if your costume looks alright.

People who build fuckhuge statue costumes and then park right in front of a major stairwell or an elevator and create a fuckhuge traffic jam.

These fuckers are never even at photoshoots and never enter any contests because they can't even walk on stage, but they always seem to show up at peak hours with these costumes that need 20 minutes of assembly, 4 handlers, and a dedicated water boy.

Not that these costumes aren't impressive, but for fuck's sake.. Does no one take the time to consider the logistics of these costumes?

I don't agree. If I get a costume custom made and I happen to look better than someone that made their own, that's not my problem. And just because someone hasn't made their entire cosplay themselves doesn't mean they haven't done anything. Wigs, accessories, props. There's nothing wrong with admitting that you don't have skill in a certain area and having it done right.

I think, more often than not, people get pissed when their poorly made cosplays get overlooked in favor of someone that bought theirs but still looks good. Decent crafters don't give a shit because they know they look great.

Also had attendees unsure about guests charging for things at their autograph table. I went to go check it out and it's just prints and the guest was charging for audio/video. Most if not all guests i've encountered do this but i'm throwing a disclaimer in the guidebook next year. Good god.

I have this problem except I'm a vendor/artist at a table. Since the first con, and every con since I've had the same neck beard always lurk around my table and chat to me for like an hour. He's so oblivious he wont move away when other customers are interested. I cant even really call him a customer since in more than a dozen cons he's only bought one $2 pin from me. I told my con director i didnt want him at our guest dinner. Reason being that he cannot hold a conversation at all. He's so extraordinarily socially awkward. He also pulled alot of stupid shit before the con started and just did things w/o checking with the appropriate departments. He micromanaged certain staff and caused them to leave. He sent out a $3,000 shirt order to get printed, he combined the shirt image we made as well as our name on the shirt but forgot the logo, and never included the art chair in any of this. I spent 5 days going back and forth with the t-shirt company trying to fix the impending disaster. I fucking fixed it in the end but holy hell. He was pretty bummed about not being allowed to go to the dinner. He tried telling me it was tradition.

I just got back from a con and I was really disappointed with one of the panels I spent $20 to attend. The panel is supposed to teach novice cosplayers about common crafting materials, e.g. foam, worbla, gesso, bondo, etc. I have never used worbla and I thought it'd be a nice opportunity to see firsthand what you can do with it... I'd assumed it would be more hands-on but the guy ended up ranting about how much foam sucks for the majority of the time and then he spent the rest of the time playing with scraps of worbla. The finished pieces he passed around were really bad looking - misshapen, in desperate need of sanding, asymmetrical, etc. I would have been fine with this if we actually got to play with the materials too, but nope. Or on the flip side, I'd have been OK with just observing and listening if he actually produced quality results. Sorry for the rant, I'm just really cheesed that I had to pay for a shitty panel.

It was at Gencon which is actually rather large, but I guess their cosplay scene is subpar. It was my first year in attendance; I guess paying for panels (they call them "events") is standard fare for the con, although average price is usually just $2-8 to participate in the event and paying more than that usually means you get to use the materials, too. For $20 I expected to at least get to take home some useable scrap. Instead I got a piece of EVA foam, craft foam, and worbla, all roughly the size of my thumb, pic related. So much regret.

Because the anime aesthetic is over the top. Just like you don't go without make up for a character that doesn't wear it, you don't go without a wig for a character with natural hair. The exceptions are where your hair is done to match the character, and is a hard style to achieve with a wig (mohaws, buzzcut, etc). I am a guy and wear makeup for cosplay. I stress all the time that makeup should be gender neutral. If anyone says it makes me less of a man...at least I will get back nicer looking photos and look more like the character. Too many people do not take cosplay makeup seriously enough. Makeup is life and I love it.

If the con was offering interesting events and guests then people would be too busy going to said events then trying to make their own fun.

You don't see giant ninja games at AX, PAX. Dragoncon or Comic Con for a reason
