I'm also holding out for the red high waist. I'm nearing the end of my wishlist and only have a relatively generic blouse and 'that' IW bolero to go. The special set jsk was originally my dream dress so the new high waist version being so similar is awesome. >> No.8927895

I'm.. Unsure of where to put this, because I feel like putting it in the Plus-size Lolita thread would be a dick move.

I recently picked up my first burando piece - An ETC OP. It fits snugly but has enough stretch to fit 2-3 fingers comfortably, but I'm so incredibly careful about wearing it. Pulling the bodice forward so that my tits don't strain the princess seams, being careful not to lean over/twist my torso too far, etc. Purely because, you know, these dresses are worth hundreds of dollars. Such is the nature of lolita (and otome) as a fashion.

So how are some girls cramming themselves into dresses that so obviously don't fit? I've seen girls easily 4+ sizes larger than myself in the same OP and I can't imagine how it could be comfortable. How do people get to the point of literally busting seams? Is it a mental thing?

I don't mean to say any of this in a derogatory "Ugh, I don't like this." kind of a way; I'm genuinely curious as to the psychology behind it. My sister does the same thing with normie fashion.

My SIL does this and I think for her it's because she never wears anything that actually fits, so she truly thinks that straining seams and being unable to breathe properly is completely normal. So basically like >>8927934 said.
My SIL is really in denial about her size and always buys M or L when she should be wearing XXL. It's probably even worse for lolitas, since most brand only comes in one size and they couldn't size up even if they wanted to. So if you're fat (or just have big tiddies) either you force yourself into something that you can hardly breathe in or you don't get to wear AP's latest Dreamy Sparkle Pony Carnival at all, which is pretty much unthinkable.

There also used to be one chick in my comm who only partially zipped up her dresses and then tried to hide the gap with a cardigan or her wig. She cried bloody murder whenever someone took a candid picture where the open zipper was visible, and when one newer member wondered why she wouldn't just buy clothes that fit her measurements she tried to bully the girl out of the comm and claimed she was racist. Glad that one's gone.

Strangely enough, I was able to get my most expensive dream dresses at retail, or only a bit above. I got Midsummer Night's Dream at re-release, Day Dream Carnival and British Bear on MTO. I did pay about $500 for Sugary Carnival three years ago, but that set also included the pullip and a handful of extra AP accessories, so I'd say that was pretty near retail as well. It does help that I like less popular dresses, my first few years of lolita was spent hunting down some cheap stuff like Gingham Rose and Ribbon, Happy Garden, other less popular prints that I really loved (I still have and love the dresses and am plotting how to be buried in all of them at once. Maybe I'll line my coffin with them?).

I think the price you pay for a dress should really be put into perspective, though. For me, I'm not rich, and up until recently I was trying to build my wardrobe, so it made more sense for me to get a couple of complete outfits I could wear to meetups, rather than splurge it all on one jsk with no money left to buy a blouse or accessories to match it with. So I started with the cheaper dresses and would eventually have worked up to paying $800 or more for Midsummer Night's Dream if it hadn't been re-released along the way.

You might also consider that $800 is still below the $1000 price tag on Baby's fancy MTO dresses. So at least you're not doing too badly spending $800 instead of $1000 on a dress you really, truly love.

>> No.8928392

>>8927981
Most I'm willing to spend is $500 but I'm also very selective on what I want to spend for that price. If it's Tea Time Nostalgia then yes. Something that AP released then no.

I always had incredible luck. I lost on auctions where my dream dresses went really high and then got them cheap or they got a rerelease. I got Fantastic Dolly for cheap on yahoo!auctions, Cinema Doll on a local normie fashion sales platform, Honey Cake through TokyoPirate's friend, Holy Lantern and Chocolate Rosette through the rerelease/MTO and my other dresses were pretty cheap as well. I wouldn't pay much for a dress if it's got a chance to get rereleased. Like for Cat's Tea Party I won't shell out a grand for it, if it won't get rereleased I won't own it. But for other dresses such as Melty Ribbon Chocolate, I would pay $500, because the specific cut I want won't get a rerelease since AP only puts out new chocolate releases. If I really want a dress I could pay up to $700. I know I could get 4 dresses for that sum, but why should I if my taste is very specific anyway?

The most I've spent on a set was $360, and the most on a single dress was $320 for a popular print. And I think I'd be willing to pay about that much for the handful of items still left on my wishlist, but since I'm pretty satisfied with my wardrobe, I'm not sure I'd go much higher. Something similar happened to me last year. There was a dress I loved on the IW site and as I was about to buy it, they took it out of the catalog, I emailed them and told me I could still buy it (with a little extra charge, but I wanted the dress so much I didn't care). A month later it was in the sale section for a lot less than what I had payed. And as if that wasn't enough to make me feel stupid, a while ago it showed up on CC for less than half that what I payed.

I think the most I've ever spent was Metamorphose's recent daydreaming goldfish mto? It was about 430 USD cause I ordered a full set plus an extra set of socks for someone else. But even without the extra socks it's still over 400 which is I think the most I've spent period in one transaction for lolita. I've only really started regularly buying lolita within the past 2 years, and I think I only started buying new releases when they've come out within the past year. DDG wasn't a dream dress or whatever in particular for me, but I like the dress and it was on the wishlist for a while. The jsk was pricier than usual for meta and since I bought all the accessories that bumped the price up. In general, I really don't like to spend more than like $300-350, and even that's on the higher end for me, usually only if it's a high priority wishlist dress. I'm much more comfortable staying within the 250 and under range. I have enough money to buy a lolita dress here and there, but not a lot to just drop tons of money on one dress. I'm more willing to go higher on the price if it's a set of course, but the higher the price is on a single dress the more I need to think about it.

fuuuck i accidentally spent way too much on lolita this month.. it's so easy to lose track of shit when you're using a proxy, how do you gulls manage yourself? any tips?

i'm usually really good about these things, but the SS situation threw me off since i don't normally use one.

>> No.8929242

>>8929225

You just have to keep track of things, anon. Write it down somewhere if you have trouble remembering it. Before every purchase, go through the list and make sure you still have enough money to pay for everything.

For SS. Even though the purchase is not 100% confirmed (for eg sometimes even TP or CT can fail to get the really bloodbathy releases), treat it as an already confirmed purchase. Up until they come back and report complete and utter failure to obtain the item, consider it as if you owe them the money.

Never take note of only the retail/list price, always work out an estimate of the SS fees and estimated shipping fees, this is the full amount you need to set aside. Always overestimate, so you're more often to have money left over rather than scrambling for cash when your estimate is off.

If you have problems because you go to the ATM and see all that dosh sitting there begging to be spent, check if your bank will let you open another account (or open one with another bank). Whenever you committ to a purchase with a shopping service, dump the full amount you need to pay (including estimated SS fees, shipping and customs fee, if that applies to you) into this second account, that way the money is set aside from your main account and you don't accidentally spend it. When an SS reports a failure to obtain your item, you can move the money back into your main account again.

Hope that helps.

But definitely totaling expenses helps keep it under control. Especially in lolita where we have a bit of a skewed idea of what a little money is versus a lot. eg $100 for a dress is a good deal while $100 for a textbook or meal is a lot of money. Just remember it adds up!

>An Open Letter to Lolitas

I am sharing my private reply to a message I received from a Lolita reader. Because my Lolita article is apparently building up some steam on a popular forum, I am posting my reply to save any more efforts. I would personally be happier spending my time shopping, buying lipstick, or doing my hair, than writing some tattoo writer- but alas, I understand. So here we go. Please copy and paste in your forum. *Name has been changed to protect reader.

Hello Lacey,*

Thanks for writing. I am very sorry you are living and dressing in a way that makes you feel subject to harassment from others. That’s never acceptable. It doesn’t matter if you’re wearing a little girl’s dress or a burka, women should never feel as though they are sexual objects, simply for dressing to please themselves. You need to be happy with who you are, what you are, how you dress, and not worry what others think.

While I appreciate your concern trying to correct an older article, correcting would be a questionable word. You see in order to “correct”, one must know the other as a fact. Nobody knows when Lolita fashion originated. We can speculate at best. Some say it was inspired by the book, other die-hards claim no association. Unless you were around and present when it all began, you, me and anyone on a Lolita forum- can only offer an opinion, some of which will be stronger based on widespread information or belief.

I can tell all Lolitas are passionate about who they are and I admire that. I also admire being a woman, and having the confidence to stand alone. I have that confidence, and so here I stand.

The article cannot be changed on my behalf. I no longer write for About.com. If you do plan on taking the time to write the site, please point out Lolita Tattoos still ranks in the number one spot on Google search, as well as the many other titles I wrote, created, and brainstormed all on my own for the tattoo channel.

>> No.8929822

>>8929819
My goal of my time with About.com was to rank the highest in search for various tattoo articles, while providing inspiration, ideas, a bit of history, and of course- value to my reader. Eventually someone will Google Lolita and the word tattoos, and bingo! Here I am. Exactly where I want to be as a writer. It took over 9 years to get here, and I’m in a place where I no longer feel the need to defend myself.

I will, however, apologize to you if my words fueled what you already feel is a hurtful belief of who you are. The truth is you can’t change everyone’s opinion in the world. Much like tattoos, people are going to judge you and think whatever they want. At the end of the day, if you don’t like it, you have two choices:

1) Change
2) Accept

I choose to accept my life, my choices, as well as the words I wrote. I have read my article over and over, and although it slants to one side, it also quite supports Lolitas, and their whimsical approach to life. The only thing I regret is the typo I found.

Keep that spirit in you. Be confident and be you. Don’t let the world label you. You aren’t a Lolita.

You’re a Lacey.

Please tell any other Lolita girls that want to write me regarding this, that their efforts, although I dearly love to communicate with anyone who love fashion and makeup, will not result in any edits or removal. At least not from me. I am powerless to the future of my Lolita article, and you know what? That feels pretty good too. I’ve let it go.

I leave you with this final story:

Two monks were making a pilgrimage to venerate the relics of a great Saint. During the course of their journey, they came to a river where they met a beautiful young woman -- an apparently worldly creature, dressed in expensive finery and with her hair done up in the latest fashion. She was afraid of the current and afraid of ruining her lovely clothing, so asked the brothers if they might carry her across the river.

The younger and more exacting of the brothers was offended at the very idea and turned away with an attitude of disgust. The older brother didn't hesitate, and quickly picked the woman up on his shoulders, carried her across the river, and set her down on the other side. She thanked him and went on her way, and the brother waded back through the waters.

The monks resumed their walk, the older one in perfect equanimity and enjoying the beautiful countryside, while the younger one grew more and more brooding and distracted, so much so that he could keep his silence no longer and suddenly burst out, "Brother, we are taught to avoid contact with women, and there you were, not just touching a woman, but carrying her on your shoulders!"

The older monk looked at the younger with a loving, pitiful smile and said, "Brother, I set her down on the other side of the river; you are still carrying her."

Best wishes and take care.

here's a question: why the fuck do we, as a community, keep digging up and bringing to the forefront old as fuck and innacurate as fuck articles and giving more attention to them instead of, i don't know, ignoring them and realizing some of that shit actually can't or won't be changed? even moreso if they're from old as fuck sites where whoever originally owned it can no longer edit or even delete it?

When you put your images online, you have to expect that the worse might happen, whether it gets reblogged in a sexual context on tumblr or posted on /cgl/ or BtB. When sissies/ddlg reblog my stuff, I just ignore it. If they repost you photo with a sexual caption or something, posing as you (hasn't happened to me, but I've seen it happen before), then you should report it. Otherwise, they're not doing anything illegal.

Adding a "don't reblog if youre a sissy thanks" would be ineffective and obnoxious. I'm pretty sure they're not just following you, they're probably looking through the tag to find stuff.

This whole tumblr mindset of "If I tell people to stop doing bad things, they'll stop" is so dangerous. I've even seen people say "it's not my fault when my nudes get leaked, it's the person who leaked them's". Does anyone deserve that? No. But you're the only one thats has to live with the consequences if it does happen. Posting photos online in any form has potential risks. You can accept it, or you can not post at all.

/rant stay safe y'all

Anon, I'm one sad lullita. When coming to international events I often end up being asked by people of where do I come from. At this point, I get pretty embarassed and desoriented, because I don't know what to answer. I can't even name the country! My country's main comm is very big, and has a good reputation among others, - but it's all an image. It's been represented by the same people for years now, and those people just hate it when somebody else gets the attention. They don't communicate with newer lolitas at all, so you kind of end up left behind at any con. Actually, it's okay, as they aren't the people most of the comm looks up to, but I'm still ashamed of situations when people ask me why I'm not with the group.I just really don't know what to answer not to sound like a special snowflake or a bad-tempered person, and I don't want people to get the idea that I'm outlaw either. Just what am I supposed to say in this case? It really bothers me and makes me terribly uncomfortable.

I think you've just hit on the reason why many lolitas dabble in OTT. The more things you pile on and the more unusual and weirder the coord, the less likely someone else out there has had the same idea.

People being both inattentive and quick to call copy just because something reminds them of another thing only adds to the problem. There's only so many ways to make a cutsew dress with a batshaped collar, and you can see anon above already calling copying when the dress should be properly described as "cliched" or "unimaginative" or "nothing new, been done before". I don't think there will ever be another decent wa-lolita coord, because no one wants to do the very simple thing of putting a kimono together with a fitted skirt and be accused of copying someone else. All kimonos only come in one shape, and skirts are all skirts. Watch everyone not realise this and call copying because one thing vaguely reminds them of another, though.

Sorry, none of this helps you at all. But yes, I've been frustrated and annoyed that this happens.

it was under my real name, but I am pretty much a nobody. the post was under somebody asking if anyone else had had issues with lockshop before. I should probably make individual threads but it's a bit scary to openly and loudly go against someone e-famous under my name. I'll consider it.

I'll make a tumblr in the next few days when I'm not feeling as shit (awful night, personal shit), thanks for the support/encouragement anons. I wasn't even sure if anyone was noticing my posts. if anyone has any good puns for the url I'll gladly take them

>>8931188
I actually haven't bought from her either, I just got so fed up of seeing people complain every few weeks and her just sitting on her arse saying 'oh tee hee our CS rep has been sick for the past 5 months!! sorry guys, we'll get to your orders real soon <3'

I think it's still available on the AP USA site, not the special set but the OG cuts.

Yeah. I'm not a big fan of the yellow unfortunately. Don't have anything in my wardrobe to match it.
Thanks though, anon.

The easiest thing to do is just add corset lacing. So many dresses have it anyway.

Honestly with stuff like this I'd say keep it simple, like 'chokelatewigscams'
So if someone Googles her, it'll come up with the word scam right there next to her name.
>b-but she's pretty!
So? Prettiness is subjective :^) and being a model doesn't mean you're beautiful, it just means you're skinny. And anyway, if she's going to let her looks get her through this, the lolita community really is as dumb as a block of cheese.

Anyway, let's get together and get her banned. She's efamous so there's no d to be a lot of backlash and asslicking, and of course we're the 'big bad cgl that only bad lolitas go on'
But we've never stolen anyone's money, so who's the real bad guy?

I want chokelate as a person and a business to be banned.
No personal sales.
No wig sales.
The same sort of backlash if someone buys from her as it is with GLW
GLW never scammed anyone... Shady racism is shady racism, and it's really bad, but people still got their wigs.

Definitely include lockshop in the tumblr URl itself, then chokelate and lockshop in the tumblr title (like lockshop and chokelate scams) for search purposes

Hey anon, I'm kind of a nobody too and know how intimidating that feels going up against someone more well known. I kind of had to do it too and it actually went well. Don't be afraid about taking Choke down. I'm pretty sure we all unanimously hate her and the girls on the Facebook and Tumblr side of things really need to know. I think those girls keep buying from her and genuinely have no clue what's happening.

Yo make a good use of instagram. Choke advertises a lot over there so clog up her hashtag with that. When girls look through the lockshop tag, they'll see your warnings so it's a good way to deter and call her out.

This is such a good idea
Jam up all the hashtags she uses, comment on her photos, get her to stop being a scammer

>> No.8931690

>>8931675
Agreed. She holds contests for discounts on her wigs if I remember correctly. If there's a hashtag affiliated with that, clog it up. There's no way she'll miss it.
