This was before we cared about that shit, and people cosplayed what they wanted, for fun.

Weird concept, I know.

Cosplay was more like a "toga party" at cons back then. Didn't matter how well you did it, as long as you participated. There was always people with better costumes, but the point was you weren't really enjoying a con to the fullest unless you were in on the fun.

different person, but cons are starting to become commercialized, and the community is being thrown out in favor of making more money. It definitely was a different scene 10 years ago. There are still a few con owners who run it like they used to be back in the day, but they aren't getting any younger...
