All I want this year is for Troy Baker to come to a con.

He was supposed to come to Geeky Con (really shitty Harry Potter based con in Orlando) and I paid way too much money to go see him only for him to cancel.

2014 was the best year imo, though that was largely due to me being a huge Tenchi nerd and getting to meet some of the VAs.

The 2015 show @ the Bonaventure location was great too, despite the last minute changes. I wish other cons would consider it for a location. Has an awesome pool and water fall, huge meeting spaces and panel rooms and the hotel rooms were very nice.

Sucks if the show did kick the bucket. Was never huge but always had a good time and the staff always seemed to care about doing a decent show. It was also always my goto con for debuting and testing out new costumes.

The give you the best bang for your buck (well maybe not Mega, kek) and you usually have a good time.

>Pros
Good guests, easy access to guests (usually very little lines or short wait times or they're just completely open to talking with no obnoxious handler pushing you away), large space so you aren't fucking cramped, varied amount of panels, price is pretty decent for a 4 day con, for Supercon the MBCC is a god-tier location

>cons
fucking Broder and his constant drama (though admittedly the stuff with guests not being paid/staff treatment is largely old news unless you're looking directly at people he regularly interacts with because he usually burns through 'friends' very quickly), MIACC sucks, dealing with anything con wise (paneling, cosplaying, etc.) means you have to deal with his people so that's never fun.

Honestly Brodercons are great cons. It's just the person running it which ruins it for people. I'm in the boat where "I don't interact with him so I don't care" and have a good time, but some people can't really get past the fact that their giving their money to Broder and get pissed off.

Heh, putting it simply it's just a string of fights linked together with a simple plot loosely related to the theme of the year for the con.

So we find out who we're fighting and then come up with choreo after researching fighting styles and think up what cool shit or signature moves we want to do.

Work on that choreo for 3/4 months, work on lines (if you have any), have the cosplay done, put on the show, and do your best to not die.

I want to do it because I'm just in love with stage combat.

Never gonna happen, as Metro's owners aren't interested in improving anything for their attendees, only in producing their precious shows that they think draw everyone and getting the same guests they always do and not anyone new (for the most part), and raking in the bucks they do due to their size and past rep.

It's now getting around that a former owner of Omni Expo embezzled a significant amount of money after last year. That, and the fact that, in two of its three years of existence, another con was scheduled for the same weekend AND city well after Omni announced their dates, seem to indicate that the con is being targeted by someone. I for one would rather give my money to a smaller con that could use the support against those that would like to see it die.

He was on 4chan, instagram and a bunch of sites complaining to anyone who would listen. Then he got called out on lying about everything, from who rigged the contest to entering a costume he didn't even make. He made a bunch of apology videos and it was beautiful.

Way too lazy to go through shit right now, but I'm sure it's still floating around.

Basically there was some tiny/new con going on in North Miami/Ft Lauderdale being done by one of Broder's friends, and a Broward Palm Beach (the North Miami New Times paper) journalist covered it. She was an admittedly huge bitch in it and took photos of cosplayers, posted photos and made fun of them (one was underage and she called her a slut or something) and acted like it was a waste of time and the SoFlo con scene flipped out. She was doxxed, attacked, told to quit, etc. etc. Numerous emails to New Times ended in an official press release where the owner basically said that they'd edit the article but they wouldn't take it down because he believed in the freedom of his journalists to write what they wanted and she basically thrived in the attention and didn't give a fuck. This resulted in Broder (in one of the few times where I admit he did a bro-tier thing) cancelling all his partnerships with New Times (which was big at the time, they gave him cover issues and major exposure) and said that they wouldn't get press/free passes to his shows. This was around summer 2013/2014 if I remember right.

Minor googling shows me that Allie Contie (she was the journalist) has left Miami and works for VICE now, so I guess Broder thought enough time has passed that he can invite New Times around again.

Do I agree that a man twice the girls age slept with the 16 year old, no but do I think after 10 years he's doing it again or hasn't change, no. Guys off his probabation, served his time, and the one time I met him he wouldn't even shake my hand and apologized he wouldn't because he wouldn't initiate contact with a female. They've pretty much just left it up to Anime Sushi to put it together every time. From the contest to the panels. Omni Expo was probably the worst Florida con in the history of Florida cons. Their biggest event (the costume contest) had the main events room a quarter of the way full. Ah, Glad I refreshed before leaving thread.

So I've volunteered for that con several times, and its actually my 'home' con, or was. Not sure on the reasoning, but his past behavior leads me to suggest it's an ego thing. I've met him, and alot of his family, and the convention is family run, and always has been. I've encountered some of his relatives, and most of them are nicer than the head himself.

Alot of the negative events and interactions over the years have not been much of anything but lack of organization and leadership on his behalf, and an unwillingness to learn from their own mistakes.

They have effectively pissed off most of their home base community (west palm beach) and for reference, look how many hotels they have gone through and locations they have changed, and also observe how much new staff continually comes around.

I am not to be the hater, I love that con, I've had wonderful memories and met wonderful people, but I'm glad I left the SoFLo scene overall, and a sizable chunk of that are experiences with specifically their upper management, lack of professionalism, and inability to lead.

Point Blank: Jason isn't the kind of guy to let something of his go on without him and do well, despite it being a few years too late.

They got the biggest crowd reaction because people felt bad for them. Giant fat dude in a thin poorly made robe who didn't even try to complete the hat, sleeves or any distinguishing part of the costume. Hot girl who can dance but wore purchased a walmart and a few accessories that vaguely resembled Esmerelda. The costume work was zero. Everyone thought hey, they have no chance but good for them for trying their hardest anyhow.

There were maybe 50 people in the audience, and ten of them were their family/friends who were screaming hysterically so yeah, they got the best reaction.

When they won, everyone clapped then walked outside and went WHAT THE FUCK. The Netherlands is gonna think we're a joke, and their costumes were so bad there is no way it makes up for the skit.

The entire audience figured the LoL group had it in the bag. All cosplay skits are stupid, but they had beautiful costumes and wouldn't be an embarrassment at least.

Nolo contendere or "no contest" is a plea where the defendant neither admits nor disputes a charge, serving as an alternative to a pleading of guilty or not guilty. If he plead not guilty it would have meant a long, drawn out fight and and there wasn't sufficient evidence to prove his guilt. His sentence was to be put on the sex offenders (not predators) list as a precaution. Roy is allowed to go anywhere and be around people of all ages, including children.

The arrest happened 3yrs after the supposed crime after the girl moved to California. She called it in then never showed up for any court appearances including her deposition. He was arrested and convicted on nothing more than her accusation.

If any of the SJWs like Shawn Tuffy, Henry Hall or Tom Croom had any sort of real evidence or proof of Roy's continued wrong doing how come it hasn't been presented to the authorities? Why was it posted to Facebook and Twitter instead of the police? Because they've got nothing. Agreed. They are all shit and a prize this big should not have been at such a small con. If this trip was offered at a popular anime con we would have seen so many amazing costumes and skits none of these would have stood a chance.

Roy's name is censored on no documents, this is the girl's deposition you moron.

>> No.8906000

The point was kind of a promotional thing to bring in people and make it a not so small con. It didn't work but it was still a good idea. I heard they're planning on doing it again next year.

Literally Roy's name is on the fucking doc then there is a giant censor bar to protect the victim's name, you're a goddamn idiot. Why would they censor Roy's fucking name once on the document but not a second time? You're a moron.

Because Janet's a drama queen who was not good friends with Jessica as far as anyone can figure out, and this is coming from someone who is team Jessica. If there's drama Janet will show up and write herself into it.

I agree I think if they split away the masquerade portion to have its own cash prize that it would be more effective. Some people due to work or school cant do something like a trip but everyone can benefit from money

>> No.8906033

I love the way everyone has a hard-on for this Roy guy. He must be pretty awesome to cause this kind of drama simply by existing. I met him at Metrocon and saw him when he was running Shadocon and Matsuri. Obviously you guys have a lot of free time on your hands to waste it stalking this guy.

Exactly. With my work there's no way I could have taken that trip, but I enjoy competing in masqs. Plus it looked like a nice stage and setup, which is something not all cons have.

What is there to know? She's acting like there's some secret birth certificate that proves the girl was actually 18 when Roy fucked her. There's no secret evidence that Janet has, she has no insider information. Later in that post she even admits that Roy was kind of a creep and that at 16 people are kinda stupid and maybe shouldn't be fucking an adult.

Roy Harms is an internet legend of such magnitude that he has five whole stalkers who can't stop talking about what he's doing years everyone else stopped caring.

For those demanding that his employers "come forward" or "come clean" with Roy's involvement in their business you should know they're under no legal obligation to say jack shit just to feed a few trolls. Please hold your breath waiting.

And if you're so worked up about his sex offender status you might want to never leave the house again as you're surrounded by them. Here's a nice list of companies that hire sex offenders and felons courtesy of a job placement assistance service for those individuals:

I don't know full details but they were at an event where drinkng was involved. Alan cornered the girl in a room and tried raping her. Some of his friends came in before he could do the deed but one of them told the girl to keep her mouth shut.

Alan claimed it was all bc of the alcohol but was later heard bragging about nearly banging her to his friends.

Tldr: Alan almost rapes a girl and it got covered up.

I went to college with Myra. She wears her maid cafe outfits to school and tries to recruit people, claiming she is getting ready to open up a maid cafe in Orlando. She stalks and obsesses over guys and constantly accuses men of false rape. Seriously, this chick is psycho and begs people for money saying she is too poor to eat because her psych meds cost too much, but she's fat and walks around eating candy 24/7.
