Honestly, I love simple coords. I only wear simple stuff that often gets labeled a too plain or too boring. I try to achieve something closer to a wearable-everyday, dressed-up "normal" fashion; think something like fannyrosie. I mean this is a fashion and not a costume, so why do Lolita shit on simple coords so much?

I once went out with a girl in OTT sweet, and I was utterly embarrassed to be with her when people were asking her why she was dressed that way and her having to explain that "it's a Japanese fashion." I mean, how can you blame them asking you about what you're wearing when you have this gigantic headpiece on and a skirt so jammed packed full of stiff petticoat that your skirt doesn't resemble a skirt anymore but it makes you look like you have a bubble butt?

I agree compleatly. I feel like what makes a coord look like a costume the most are the stupid fucking wigs. It never pases for real hair, they make the infamous game of thrones for the first couple of season wigs look amazing by comparison. And that's usually what makes people think it's a costume, the obvious synthetic wig that makes their head look big.

Personally I never get asked why I'm dressed the way I do, if I'm in a play etc which seems common in my comm. I definately get comments on my clothes but no one ever assumes it's a costume. Most girls in my comm dress fairly simple on a day to day basis, the only difference is they wear a wig and they get the costume comments pretty often.

I rather see real hair, nicely brushed with no particular styling like

I wear wigs, but only natural colored ones. The one I wear frequently is actually similar to my natural hair color. I only wear it because I have very fine and very thin hair that doesn't like to stay curled. It's a battle every time I need to do something with it, so I just think wearing a wig is easier.

But I agree that unnaturally colored hair (like pink ones or the multi-colored mixed ones) are just horrible for Lolita and super costume like. How did it become like this?

Except when you have this going on, (not me, but a picture that shows my level of thinning) and the only way you can get your hair looking halfway decent is pulled up into a thin depressing ponytail or wearing a hat (which is fine, but not what I want to do all the time). Otherwise, it's wigs for me. All of mine are natural colored.

I wasn't really talking about pastel wigs. Even natural colored wigs end up looking like a costume (who even wears pastel ones anymore?) is just cheap synthetic wigs in general. In this thread there's a fair amount of both wig and no wig so it's easy to see my point I hope.

I think the problem is mostly coming from people getting wig advice from cosplayers. The kind of wig that is good enough for cosplay doesn't pass for real hair IRL. Lolita's are awful at wigs, I don't know why they can't invest in a decent natural one that passes for real hair.

And honestly thin hair is not that bad, you could get extentions, or layer it, find the right priducts to style it. IMO it's definitely better than an obvious wig. but that's just my opinion.

mine do, but they are short. i am often asked about what dye i used or if i got a haircut.

I agree, wigs in lolita look awful. Unless you're balding I don't understand why anyone would choose a wig to be honest. I miss the days where people where encouraged to BE Lolita's instead of just wear lolita, like a costume. I often hear "my hair doesn't suit the fashion I have to wear a wig" to me, as an old fag is just...baffling. Why would you even have hair that doesn't suit the fashion if you're in the fashion? It's so fake, like a punk wearing a Mohawk wig, or a goth with fake piercings or something.

Probably around the time GLW got super popular and were pushing those twin tail wigs like crack, so everyone wanted to wear wigs. Now everyone is saying what a shit company they are and boycotting them. If no one is buying wigs, then no one will be wearing them anymore. It could all be a coincidence, but it's just what I think.

I'm not sure how it was in the old days I wasn't around back then but it sounds like heaven lol but I definitely have seen a deplet in the amount of people wearing wigs AND in the amount of people suggesting them. It used to be every time someone posted with their real hair they'd get a few 'get a wig!' Comments, but that happens a lot less now.

I swear 90% of the comm wears wigs and it's pretty obvious. I have a hard time believing everyone has "unstylish" hair, they just don't want to bother and are under the impression nobody can tell it's a wig even though its balantly obvious. They've lost touch with reality.

However I will say that for very Ott styles, Ott hair does tend to look better. And that's usually better achieved with wigs. If you're gonna go all impractical and costumume-ish you might as well go all out. My annoyance is more over the basic, everyday look with a wig.

To the normal person, the last thing they're going to ask about is the wig, especially if it's natural. I've gone out in fake as fuck hair before and have had lots of people asking if it was my real hair, but I've gotten more questions about toned down outfits with normal hair. Honestly, unless someone wears wigs or are around people who wear wigs often (not a white nerd) nobody really notices the difference between sheen and volume unless you're wearing a ratty halloween costume wig.

"is that your real hair" is not really a normal question to ask a person. It's generally only asked if they know its not, its more polite than "that's a wig!"...unless you're black or something. everyone is always asking black girls if its their real hair but again, mostly because it's assumed it's not. I was only asking because I was posted on here. And I am one of the girls in a picture you didn't like. Not offended or anything, but I will take it into consideration in the future. I would prefer to wear my natural hair out straight, but it just ends up looking limp and lifeless. I like a slight curled or wavy look to my hair, but it's hard to achieve that. Also, I find that my volume-less hair looks very odd/unbalanced against hair bows.

I have never found a product that worked for me. Teasing my hair doesn't work either as it's super fine and the teasing just kind of falls out. People usually don't, only newfags, and if someone comments "boring" they're usually shut down pretty fast.
You don't see a lot of them anymore because most people just post their fanciest shit online, then wear simple coords on their own time.

I love simple coords too but I think everyone who bawwws about how much of a costume lolita is needs to realize that they also stick out like a sore thumb. No normalfag thinks you're more acceptable because you're wearing a slightly deflated petti instead of a full one and grey instead of pink. And you probably look even more out of place because you're so nervous and self conscious.

If you're going to wear an alternative fashion, why are you tailoring it to the public eye instead of just wearing what you want? I though that lolita fashion was all about wearing what makes you happy and disregarding opposition? And if it's simple, so be it, but only if it's for yourself.

I've never seen this happen before, but I'm new to the community so I have a lot of catching up to do. I do see a lot of comments like "This is an ok coord. It isn't anything special or great, it's just ok." A lot of that is used to describe simple coords like some of the ones posted here.

It was my observation that CoF girls LOVE and fawn over all the OTT stuff, which I personally hate because it's just too costume like.

The picture you attached with your comment is a beautiful example of a tone down, simple coord that I think even normal people can like and would find acceptable. There's nothing overtly strange about what she's wearing. She looks kind of vintage inspired with the plaid, so I don't think normal people would find it weird. Loud ass, colorful prints on the other hand... There's just no way to tone that down.

I've been a lone Lolita for a long time before joining the community and have never been nervous or self conscious about wearing it in public. I've only ever been nervous about wearing it while in the presence of other Lolitas because I know I will be judged or accepted based on how well I dress.

Well, I can agree that it could pass as "normal" but people will still inevitably ask her why she's dressed up or where she's going, it's still not under the radar.
But the entire point I was trying to make was why are so many lolitas desperate to please normalfags? Even if you're wearing a neon duct tape suit, you're still yourself. Drawing attention to yourself isn't pleasant, but if wearing the clothes you love isn't worth it to you, you shouldn't change your style just for that. And you shouldn't suggest anyone else do it either.
If you just like wearing simple coords, cool, so do I, but if it's so the normies will except you, you've got it all wrong.
I personally don't wear wigs because when I do, I feel out of touch with myself, like wearing a mask. And that's when it starts to feel costume-y or like a persona. There are definitely costume-litas (like most of the lolita youtubers) but that's just a bad image.

In my local comm (and I'm sure others as well) as long as you're not totally fresh out of milanoo ita, they'll give you a chance. There's tons of overweight, possibly colorblind, or ridiculously tattooed girls in my comm and they're all friends with skinny brandwhores. Most girls are just looking for real friends with good personalities. The types of girls who hate you just for looking bad are the ones that end up banned.

Try finding a hair stylist how knows how to deal with thin hair. Both my mother and hair stylist have extremely thin hair. If the wind blows even slightly you'll see bald spots.

My mother got a specific type of layers suited for her face and hair and it made a huge difference. The only time I've heard her talk about products is to say that most products will just make your hair even more limp.

I guess that's because most people buy from GLW or Lockshop, Lockshop looks ok but very wiggy because of the Volume and styles, and GLW looks kinda crappy on the stock photos as well, and either way you can tell because everyone wears the same three styles of wigs.
It would be different if people actually knew what a decent wig looked like, I've heard so many comments about how bodyline's wigs are great quality and it just makes me laugh.

Imo, one of the big problems with wigs is the style of the bangs. In the pictures above, a big reason why the hair looks face is because of the side-swept bangs, they just don't look like they're coming from someone's scalp.

I think this one looks really good because of the straight bangs and believable hair texture (obviously it's straight, but a lot of curled wigs look very fake as well because of the curl texture). If it wasn't choke, it wouldn't stand out to me as a wig. Same with >>8772777.

Imo, you can make mid-tier wigs like Lockshop work if you cut straight bangs, and don't get crazy curled ones, but more subtle and natural styles.

You're reading too much into this. The point of Lolita is that it's a fashion, so yeah, people are going to look at the way you look. When I go out by myself, I don't worry myself over what other people think of it or what I'm wearing because I like it and I am comfortable with it. I could see why other people would think she was in costume from what she was wearing. But I didn't personally care for what she was wearing (OTT Sweet); it's certainly not my cup of tea, but to each their own.

Meh. I have reasonably thick hair that will hold a curl. But I hate spending hours on a wet set, time under the dryer, or even sleeping on rollers, only to have my hard won curls fall out of my hair 2 hours into an event (or sooner, if it's humid). In most cases, a "haircut that adds volume and suits your face" is also short, and/or without a fringe. Having thin hair means that to have a decent blunt bang, I'd have to devote almost half of my hair to it.

The few times I've gone sans-wig and posted photos, I've had remarks that I would look better with longer hair and a blunt fringe, that it would be more lolita. Neither of these are possible with how thin my hair is. Hell, I can't even use a clip-in fringe without it being blatantly obvious it's fake, because the rest of my hair is so much thinner and finer.

You see the problem? Just because a haircut suits you doesn't mean it suits lolita. And when you have thinner hair, the result is often to sacrifice the typical "cute" styles and end up with something more mature or modern than works with lolita.

To be completely honest anon you just sound stubborn. You'd be surprised at how many great lolitas wear natural-colored wigs that pass for normal hair. You do have a point about people using shiny wigs from companies like Epic Cosplay and Airily for lolita and having it look fake, but many wig companies make real-looking wigs in a dearth of great colors. My Arda wigs are often mistaken for real hair by normies. Wearing a wig doesn't downgrade a coord automatically. Plus it's great to have a wardrobe of wigs that go with your clothes, so you can mix it up and use different hair colors for different coords.

I've been taking vitamins, switched birth control to something with less androgens in it, keeping my hair short with as little heat treatment as possible and it seems to be helping a little bit since my hairline looks a little more filled in than it had been. But the center part still very thinned. I usually part from the side though where it's less terrible. At least it's not been worsening. For awhile, I had hair falling out in clumps especially while I was having some tooth trouble.
