What kind of things piss you off the most at conventions?
What are the most disgusting things you've ever seen at conventions?

>> No.8685379

The dealer's room is a shitty place to take a picture. The lighting is the absolute worst and you're holding up everyone else trying to get around.

Also how do people not know you walk on the right side of a hall, path, aisle etc?

Haven't watched the video, but on convetions, even in Winter, there are always way too many people who smell like they've never heard of deodorant before. This is GROSS guys use deodorant!
Oh, and 'free hug' people who just hug anyone without even asking the person.

>> No.8685405

I understand that con center staff have to deal with retarded weebs all day, but that doesnt mean they have to go full cunt mode the second I turn the wrong way or sit in the wrong spot. I got food at the AX dealer hall once and sat against the wall in the very back, in a surprisingly empty walkway. A con staff yells and bitches that I have to stand, not sit. She then proceeds to go hang out with a gaggle of other staffers blocking an exit. I'd die in a fire either way.

Basically, fuck con center staff. At least con volunteers are nice, even though theyre really stupid and spaghetti everywhere.

Oh god this. Please, please bathe. Also, unsealed body paint, grabbing shit in the AA/dealer's room with filthy hands and tossing it back, standing in front of a booth/door/table doing fuck all for hours, and blocking the hallways. Don't do any of those things, ever.

>> No.8685500

Not asking for a photo, a hug, a selfie, not asking when touching something etc. If you wouldn't go up to a stranger on the street and do it, don't do it to someone at a con. Especially because of non-showering reasons.
>normies who go to cons and treat it like a freakshow/circus/zoo, who go to laugh at the nerds
>preteens thinking it's funny to be as obnoxious as people
>clearly uncomfortable/suffering kids just there because the parents were too cheap for a sitter/pimping them out in a costume for likes
>dudebros/Chads who think every girl in a costume is a paid model/porn star
I'm sure I'll think of more later on.

I've heard so many nerds go "oh well I don't really sweat so I don't wear deodorant"

This is probably my biggest peeve of conventions, they're not an excuse to let you run around and touch other people. A while ago I had an incident where someone I didn't know got me from behind with a bear hug and lifted me off the ground, who the hell thinks doing something like that is okay to someone you've never even spoken to?

I have a feeling most anons will post things I hate so I'll just say things I've never read on similar threads before:
>people blocking the way or the stairs to take photos or just talk
>people leaving their gross food or/and trash on tables and chair meant for people who are going to eat. Worse if they leave it on the floor.

This. If you know you're going to get pissed dealing with these people, then how about you don't do it? Stop ruining the con for the people who paid to get in.

Niche example but i wanna share stuff about gatherings

>If you're going to run a gathering then make sure everyone there has a chance of being in photos outside of the big group shot in the end.
>Being a good gathering host means you should worry more about how well the event is ran as opposed to trying to be noticed. If you are in the most photos then something is wrong

Ive never been to one but im a decent looking robot who honestly wants to go to pick up women as lame as that sounds. I figure that there will be women that are dorky like me but not insane, I dont like normie women and the bitches in my anime club are ugly and crazy as hell. Im not sure what the culture is but do women go for the costumes or to meet people with similar personalities/interests? Obviously it's going to be some of both but which is more important to yall? Also yes I know I am pathetic for going to conventions to hook up but I am lonely and the girls in my classes and volunteer group dont seem that interested in me

> Stopping in walkways, at the top of an escalator, right outside of an elevator, etc to open your bag and look for something/look at your phone/etc.
> Bringing babies/toddlers to a convention.
> When the convention itself is disorganized - they move a panel to another room/time but don't tell anyone, you can't find where to line up, they close earlier than scheduled times, etc.

Most disgusting thing was being stuck in a crowd of people in a narrow hallway [DragonCon 'habitrail' from the Mariott to the Hyatt if that's any perspective]. The crowd was barely moving, I was stuck behind someone who smelled so bad it was making my eyes water. I thought I was going to vomit. I can usually withstand bad smells but being stuck in one place with it was unbearable.

Not that anon, but I think they were talking about organizers of a big series group gathering/photoshoot at a con doing the photo group lineup so that they would end up in the most pictures while leaving out groups. Such as running a Sailor Moon gathering at a con and never calling an outer senshi photo but doing a lot of group photos that Usagi can be in because that's who the organizer was cosplaying and they wanted to personally be in every photo.

Not that people are obligated to take anyone's photo, but I agree that gatherings should be able to include every character in at least one photo other than the group shot where it can be impossible to see individuals in a larger gathering. It doesn't have to be a solo photo if there is only one of that character, but there is usually a grouping or ship they can fit into, and it should be the host's job to make sure that everyone has a chance to be in a photo. Why else run an open gathering? You might as well just do a shoot with just your friends.

It sounds like they were salty about a particular gathering that went this way.

The show is literally called Sailor Moon of course Sailor Moon is in more pictures. Also gathering photos are awful, no one actually likes having a picture of all 12 Sailor Neptunes at a con. It's just to make people feel better by being in pictures.

If you're running a gathering it is. A gathering host has to make sure everyone gets a chance to have their picture taken.

As for the rest of the con, that obligation is not present.

People to listen to - the police or security if they are off duty police.

People not to listen to - Con Staff.

Last Con I went to best parking lot was full. Drive up to gate ask guy can I give him a $20? Sure man park here.

Go in loading docks (yes I did have a ticket) and get into dealer hall area early for con exclusives by following a vendor pushing a cart in. Con Staff stops me. Oh I am sorry I will go in another door and walk away.

Just walk away from these dicks and say oh sorry. then do what ever the fuck you want.

Con rules aren't the law. Just be gracious and play dumb. Walk in like you own the place.

The first thing is to ignore and forget anything /r9k/ says about relationships and dating. If you want a girlfriend, you'll need to make yourself more available. That means making yourself more interesting to talk to, making sure you're cleaned up, but being creepy or an edgelord.

You shouldn't go to a con specifically to get your dick wet. It is very obvious when that is the case, and people tend to avoid desperate people because when somebody only wants you for one thing, you're less inclined to want to associate with them.

The key to finding a relationship isn't necessarily throwing a wider net, because no matter how wide your bet is, if it's full of holes, you won't catch anything.

Go to the con to have fun, and talk to ask sorts of people about their hobbies and yours. You might find something new you like, you'll become more social, and you might even find a qt who shares this in n common with you. Just don't go in with that last one being your plan, or you'll miss out on everything else.

>> No.8689139

>>8687527
Wouldn't normally answer this sort of thing, but I was in something of your position once, and >>8688023 has it right.

Forget looking for girls, it doesn't quite work that way. Focus first on your presentation, then try to be a little more social. If you're awkward around the opposite sex, make new guy friends at first, just come out of your shell and get used to socializing with strangers, especially normies.

Once you're confident you'll seem like a more solid guy, and people will be more drawn towards you whatever their gender. Then you'll have a chance of meeting someone nice.

>normies who go to cons and treat it like a freakshow/circus/zoo, who go to laugh at the nerds
I never understood people who do this. Doesn't it seem unwise to go into a place where you're outnumbered thousands to one and start making fun of everyone in there? That's how people get their asses kicked at sports games. Most anime fans are nonviolent but the con circuit has it's share of veterans, violent drunk people, and loltoughguys looking for a fight.

>> No.8690272

>>8687527
Other two anons covered the most important points, but you should also get better at making conversation. You can probably talk to your friends without sounding like an idiot, but when you're talking to people you don't know well and are attracted to, it's damn hard not to spaghetti all over the place. Learn to talk neutrally- instead of 'I hate this show' say 'This show isn't really my style', never call other people crazy without an excellent reason (Naruto headbands in school is not a reason; making a shrine to a fictional character, complete with blood offerings, is a reason) and don't laugh at/insult other people to make yourself look better. Seriously, don't. It makes you look like an immature dick and is the reason nobody on /r9k/ has had a healthy relationship (assuming, optimistically, that they ever had one). I know this all sounds condescending as hell but believe me you will sound a lot better, nicer, and less desperate if you do these things. Make an effort, it'll be super worth it.
Go to a con for fun. Meet people because they're into the same stuff you are and if things work out, you'll get a girlfriend. If they don't, you get a friend. Don't give up after the first time. You might be tempted to go on a self-pity trip if nobody wants to talk to you, but these things take time.
Also- don't call other girls sluts or whores or bitches. Especially don't do this to other girls. They won't think they're special for being different to those disgusting females a gentlesir like you so despises, they'll think you're some creep who's probably on a government watch list for unhinged stalking. Just don't mention your anime club members if you can't stop the rants from pouring out, but be yourself otherwise.
Also this ended up being a lot longer than anticipated. It's p repetitive but important. Basically, don't be a dick or creepy and you'll be fine. Go forth and have fun.

>Also- don't call other girls sluts or whores or bitches. Especially don't do this to other girls.
This is a big point. It's not that you're "not allowed" to dislike women, but saying "I don't like her in particular because of x" is a lot better than saying "she's a whore/slut/bitch" because they're just generic women insults and she'll wonder whether or not you're calling her them behind her back.

The most disgusting thing I've seen at a con was a group of pissed off homestucks who were angry they couldn't host an official panel because con rules stated that all panels have to be anime related. They all gathered in a hallway and took turns asking each other questions in character whilst passing about a bucket they would spit in. So gross.
