Where might I be able to buy some damaged dresses? I have some ideas for things I would like to do with prints but I wouldn't experiment on a perfectly good dress. Sometimes I can find things on Yahoo Japan but it seems Lacemarket posts don't reduce their prices by much for damaged dresses and I'm not about to pay $150 for a dress I'm going to mess with.

>> No.8677494

You could make WTB posts on egl and facebook sales groups asking for seriously damaged items for low prices. Maybe someone has garbage lying around they'd otherwise be too embarrassed to put up for sale.

I'm just saying if you wanna "experiment" then go buy fabric at a local fabric store, don't mess up a perfectly nice(even maybe damaged) dress.

But this is my opinion, and i felt like giving my 2cents.

If she buys it, it's her dress. It doesn't matter if you think it's "art." If I buy a painting, it's mine. I can throw more paint on it if I want. Plus, mass-produced lolita clothes aren't an art in any sense of the word. They may be made in small runs, but I'm sure dozens to hundreds of every print BTSSB or AP makes exists in the world. Who the fuck cares if 1 or 2 of them are modified? It's just clothes.

Different anon here. While it is most certainly her dress to do whatever with, especially if it's damaged, I still don't understand why she wants to alter it. It's much cheaper to find printed fabrics online or in store than to try and alter a damaged brand dress unless it's going super cheap.

I will say if a dress is damaged to the point it's unwearable, I don't see any harm in trying to salvage the scraps of it. It's just not going to be the easiest thing to try and find a dress like that for a decent price.

>>8677567
Just fyi that's not me you're replying to.

I hardly think it's so much to ask to look for severely damaged dresses. Most girls wouldn't even wear those dresses out because the damage is so embarrassing. I've already experimented with non-loli dresses, it's not as though I've never sewed/dyed/crafted before. I was just looking for nice prints to use. I've already looked through quilting stores and the like and they just don't have any suitable prints, not to mention I'd rather not sew my own jsks from scratch if I can buy some and save myself the time.

>I consider all the dresses art pieces and wouldn't dare change them/use them to "experiment".
Because you associate brand with actual value and significance. You think that because it's expensive means it is inherently worth more than other things... in the end it's just fabric. I love my dresses just as much as anyone else, but you can't try to dictate what other people do with theirs just because you hold value to yours.

>> No.8677583

>>8677579
Not just brand, indie brands, regular dresses. Some one put time and effort into that design, and that in it self is amazing. So if it were me i would prefer people didn't mess with the dress. But no where did i try to "dictate" what anon could do.
All i did was give my opinion. I see most thing as art cause some one put precious time and work into it.
If she wants to rip the dress that's up to her, i just personally don't agree with the idea.

>> No.8677585

>>8677579
If anything, she should be happy I'm looking to take damaged pieces off the market and alter them. Removing more of those dresses from the world increases the value of the pristine ones that are already on the market, so her brand dresses would be worth more. No one wants to buy a totaled Corvette just for the sake of having a Corvette. I'm basically buying these dresses to scrap for parts, if you will.

By your logic, books are just "more paper", and paintings are just more paint. For bigger brands there's obviously an artistic expression from the designer. This does not mean you need to treat the dress itself like a divine piece, of course. Inspiration is a thing in art.

>> No.8677595

>>8677587
...but books are paper and paintings are paint. That's entirely my point. We add value to things that, in the end, are all the same. Brands can jack up their prices because they're brands--this happens throughout all sales, not just lolita. I just think we get so carried away in materialistic things that we forget what they really are... something (typically) mass manufactured for a fraction of the price taken to create.

Out of curiosity, what would you do with a seriously damaged brand dress? Maybe one with a large stain that doesn't want to come out, or a huge tear from getting caught on a bench? Would you still wear it out even though you had ruined it? Or would you keep it in your closet and treasure it despite the fact that it will never serve its actual purpose of being worn? I don't see the point in holding onto things you will never be able to use again. Might as well sell them off to someone who can make use of them. It gives you money and closet space and you don't lose anything of value because it was ruined anyway.

hey gulls. so i bought a blouse from bunny house, got an airmail tracking number (beginning with RR if it matters?). on the vietnam post website the tracking number has been updating just fine the past week or so, but it finally stopped on the 13th and the latest update just says "exported from vietnam". usually foreign post numbers track fine on USPS so i tried putting the tracking number through the usps tracking but it says not found, and again on VN post it hasn't updated beyond that one thing saying it was exported. is this the type of mail that like, can take a long time because the package has to wait to be put on a plane that has room? otherwise, anyone have any sort of possibly guess as to when this thing might get here? i was hoping the blouse would get here before halloween but maybe not.

I always have to use a hidden safety pin to close the annoying boob gap in button down blouses. Also if a dress has very obviously stretched to the max shirring, but still fits and looks decent I wear a bolero or capelet to cover it.

I used to stack not so good pettis but I recently invested in a nice one and its just worth it. The dress even flows better with it.
I recommend learning how to sew instead of using fabric glue to patch things up only because fabric glue gives kind of a stiff texture.

For me any oxi clean worked really well on most stains. Wet the stain a bit and put on the oxi clean stuff. Wet it every once in a while so it can soak it a bit. I'd usually recommend soaking the whole area around the stain in a water + oxiclean solution but since is an old red velvet dress I'm not too sure what might happen. (It shouldn't do amything with cold water, but you never know). After soaking a bit, maybe half an hour, try to carefully rub the stain out with an old piece of cloth.

I need advice. I have a perfect petite body for lolita (humblebrag whatever) but not a very cute face. It's not the worst, but it doesn't photograph well, I feel like, and it's more narrow and oval, which doesn't tend to suit lolita wigs very well, either (the bangs are always so long and wide on wigs, which ends up making my face look even longer) Should I just ditch wigs and only use my natural hair?

The other major sign of wear is on the cuffs of the sleeves. The right sleeve has a brown spot and both cuffs have red on the edge of the cuff, probably from rubbing on the dress during wear. lol anon. Are you American or something.

I agree with you it's Baby's fault and they messed up, but try being less self-centred the next time an international seller messes up. It's easy for you to say "just order it off xxx website" but you're expecting someone foreign to know about something not every country has, you expect them to know which site to look for, you expect them to navigate a site in a language foreign to them, and then figure out how to buy one item. Yes, the seller messed up, but there are 196 countries in the world, and they don't all operate the same. In my country you can't even buy it off the website, so you're basically saying they should fly someone over so that they can buy the shipping label in person from one of the few post offices that carry it, and then find out that not only is the box too small (we don't do prepaid labels, only prepaid boxes and envelopes), it's also untracked. That's a bit much to ask from an international seller, even if the seller is a company the size of Baby.

If it's really that easy to buy a prepaid shipping label in your country, then I don't see why the buyer doesn't just do this herself and send Baby the receipt afterwards. As far as I know, Baby doesn't send the money over to cover the shipping, what they did for me previously was refund it out of the transaction where I had paid them, which means the paypal fees get refunded as well.

Neither the buyer in this case nor Baby are based in the US. Even if the buyers country, Singapore I believe she mentioned, has this option Baby cannot buy that postage.

Also remember this is an item that needs to be returned. So think of it like this: I'm in the US and need my European buyer to ship something back. I can't send her prepaid US postage and expect it to work in their country. The original postage needs to be paid in the country of origin.

If a seller makes a mistake they have to take a moment and realize that the buyer benefits greatly from simply keeping their mouth shut and not going the extra mile to help correct the seller's fuckup. If you fuck up, communicate with your customer, apologize, ask for an estimate for shipping, and work out what you can do for your customer to ease the process.

Seriously, the idea that acknowledging that the seller's mistake has created extra work and inconvenience for a customer, even asking for them to pay for something out of pocket, is "self-centered" is so silly. If they're incapable of handling a shipping label for their customer then they need to be kissing ass to get their item back, offering a small item in return or offering her a discounted price to ethically keep the item. Lots of businesses have accounts with shipping comanies, it's not far fetched to think they could contact the company they have an account with and ask them if there's something that could be done. BABY is hardly an indie setup; they have access to tools you wouldn't.

>> No.8680560

>>8680539

Anon, calm down. All I did was explain exactly why this one idea/option is the one idea/option that is definitely too much to ask for.

As for "the company they have an account with", that would be Japan Post. If you've ever bought from Baby, you'll realise they give you an EMS number that you track through Japan Post's website, and that when it crosses to another country, the other country is responsible for picking up the tracking and delivering it to your door. Japan Post only operates in Japan. There is no global transport network that Baby can ask to pick up a shipment in a foreign country. Again, this is the one idea/option that is definitely too much to ask for.

Yeah, no idea why I thought you were rustled. It's fine if the idea wouldn't work, but I was hardly being a thoughtless jerk by suggesting it. Also let me repeat it wasn't a "this is definitely the perfect idea" it was just a "there must be SOMETHING they can do other than demanding the customer pay out of pocket". I guess I should have thought of two or three examples to satisfy you.

I could stand to be corrected on your thoughtlessness. Tell me which of these you thought about before throwing out that suggestion:

(a) Not all countries work the same as the US, in particular prepaid labels aren't feasible
(b) Baby is a Japanese company, English *is* a foreign language to them.
(c) Baby is not a global corporation
(d) Baby ships through normal post, they don't have a global shipping network that they can call up to arrange anything
(e) none of these are obscure facts, anyone who's ordered from Baby knows all these things.

You are clearly American (you said so yourself) and have access to pre-paid return labels so that's why it came to mind and I framed it as "would YOU do this to YOUR customers", but you latched onto the idea of it being a Specific Completely Serious Suggestion For Japanese Brand Baby and so I threw out a couple ideas that might have enabled them to get a more amenable solution for the buyer.

I don't know how else to say this, but, I frankly don't care that Baby doesn't have access to an international shipping company. Their mistake, they fix it. Let's be real here, if a private transaction happen here on cgl and the buyee gull was honest enough to reveal the mistake on the part of the seller, the buyee gull would have the expectation that the one who made the mistake pay for the mistake. I just don't see how the fact that English is their second language or their lack of contacts makes it any different for Baby. They are a company involved in a transaction and this is the price of business. Baby made a mistake way outside of the normal parameters of their business, so now they have to fix it without cost to the customer. Their bad, so sad.

When is a buyer entitled to a full refund?

I sold an older dress that I purchased off of egl-comm-sales forever ago and it just sat in my closet. I only inspected the outside of the dress before selling, listing it in "good condition for its age"

Buyer said the lining is coming apart from the zipper and the seams. I suspected maybe she had stretched it out, but upon checking her FB she's TINY (5'1, probably 95lbs at most). It must have been the previous owner who had sold it to me since I never wore the thing.

I'm happy to pay for the alterations but she does not have a car or any means to get it fixed. It would take her close to 2 hours on bus in the snow to get it altered.

At this point I'm stuck. We're at two options
- she sends the dress back to me, I get it fixed, and then send it back
- I give her a full refund as I cannot do a partial

Like you said I would first give her the option of sending it to you and having you fix it, you of course paying for all the costs. If she's not willing to do that it's up to you to make the decision on whether you want to fully refund her. How much was the dress sold for?

>> No.8681118

tell her you'll either refund her the cost of fixing it, or she can send it back and you can post it for sale again and list the damages so you don't need to fix it. That's not an aesthetic issue, so i don't think you should do a refund unless you sold it for under $40, at which point its not worth your time to bother with.

>> No.8681119

>>8681106
Yep, she took pictures. The seams around the entire lining is loose and very visible in the photos. Around the zipper, the thread is still in tact but the lining frayed off of the seams. I feel stupid for not checking the inside of the dress.

I sold the dress for $240, shipping included. Alterations and shipping cost would be around $45.

I understand it's my decision to fully refund her, but that won't stop her from opening a PP claim and asking for a full refund if I choose not to. Can this warrant a neutral/negative feedback for both me and the buyer? (she seems sweet and understanding enough but who knows)

Options:

#1. What you said, send her a prepaid postage label to ship back to you, you get it fixed, you ship back to her, all on your dime not hers. She will appreciate this effort.

#2. You agree on a PARTIAL refund and just send it to her as a gift payment. (I am not sure why you can't send a partial refund but a gift payment from you for the agreed amount works too.)

#3. She ships the dress back to you and you give her a full refund. You can offer to cover the return shipping to be nice since it was your mistake.

Don't just... give her a full refund and let her keep the dress, what even. It should be treated as a return.

different anon but, except not all potential main pieces cost 250 tbh, especially when you factor in skirts that sell for less than jsks or ops, japanese secondhand auctions/pricing, older pieces, and offbrand. i definitely have over 300 prints on my wishlist, too. and it's not like someone can get 300+ main pieces in a year, that would take a shitload of time and budgeting for most people. unless they're rich of course, in which case more power to them.
and yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if chinese lolitas have that much and probably more.

So, I still haven't heard back from my SS on the status of My Favorite Ribbon yet. I am assuming the worst since they're both showing sold out.

Who's your SS? Maybe she's just backed up on orders at the moment

I always wonder how brand dresses end up in thrift and goodwill stores. I'd like to assume that that persons parents thought it'd be perfectly find to throw t. Surely someone can't be that oblivious to second hand sales and decided to give it away.

I guess we're getting ready for Christmas now? Here's hoping for an underbust cut.

Just buy one of the JSK's imo.
That cut is really ugly and will hold no poof, it will barely be lolita.
The print is gorgeous though I have the high waist JSK and it doesn't look good with a lot of poof and it has way more skirt than the OP.

Kind of rambled but I just wouldn't get it.

I would hope so. It's just a little nerve racking hearing people get their confirmation.

And speaking of, I really should like to know all these magical other SS who happens to get stuff.

Oh thank you! I was completely misinformed, the other person that originally posted the link to my fb said they were only custom orders.

I've had so many people be like "oh your photos make you look so different than how you look irl, you're cuter in person OH GOD SORRY". I ain't even offended. I just photograph like a potato. Remember that cameras flatten, warp, and accentuate shitty imperfections that the human eye isn't gonna pick up in person. If your reflection in the mirror is super cute, then that's how you're gonna look to the other girls at your meet.
