Already in the process, now that I have time, of re-doing the boots. Used china cosplay boots that I repainted and they were horrible. Have some actual boots in the mail that im going to start with.

I'm really satisfied with the way that my Date Masamune came out. Unfortunately I left some pieces of armor at home and the elastic bits on my leg armor weren't cooperating AT ALL during my photoshoot, I am really happy with everything over all.

Living in a very warm climate, I'm not able to wear the costume often, so I am very thankful to finally have pics of it.

Sure. My first fiberglass cosplay: Halo:CE Chief. I wanted to be true to the game and be sort of low-poly, but I worry it came off as lazy, which would be a shame considering how much work actually went into it.

That said, it seemed to get a very positive response, so maybe I'm concerned over nothing.

I actually love the low poly look. I'm not even a die hard Halo fan and just from the pic I could tell that the Halo 1 look was what you were going for. It's kinda like the difference between doing concept art Solid Snake and Low-Poly solid snake, sure there might be some people who don't get it, but it's really charming for those who do.

I had no idea how to do the wig and did it very much last minute. I think it turned out decently!

Would love to redo it some time under some less stressful conditions.

I'm least happy with my make up, it feels really lacking and basic overall. (except for maybe the eyes)

My very first cosplay from last year's youmacon
Theres a ton of inconsistencies between the costume and the actual character's design now that i look back on it but i had the best time of my life and am really proud of how it turned out. It could have been worse I suppose!

thank you for the advice! i'd deeeefinitely hem a normal skirt, but the character actually tears the skirt shorter from a longer evening gown when she goes into battle. i'm actually planning on roughing up the hem a little more so that it looks more intentional in photos.

You might want to look up weathering tutorials-- there are ways to make the edge look ripped while still "finishing" it, if that makes sense. If it's a poly you might want to take a lighter to the cut edges or Fray Check them, since fraying threads just tend to look cheap.

I chose this wig because I think that the color is more accurate, on the left it's Bee's hair color and on the right are those of my wig, imo the brown wigs are a bit too dark for her!

From a group photoshoot a few months ago. I still can't believe the photog took such a nice photo of me (the only thing I dislike a bit are the braids/the stray strands. It was at the end of the day and I use the same wig for human InuYasha, hence the shorter strands popping out)

Made power-suit Samus for Megacon this year. It had some obvious construction problems, considering it was my first armor cosplay, but I had a lot of fun building and wearing it! At least now I know what mistakes not to make if I ever make anymore armor cosplays.

Thanks so much! It was really painful and time consuming, but I painted them all by hand.
I made a mock up on a piece of a paper to see if I liked the spacing and all that, then I just used a ruler and protractor and marked them all on with chalk (I found where I wanted the center first and worked out from there), then painted them. A lot of crying was involved. It's an important step. I had to do a lot of work mocking up the pattern before hand too because I realized early on that I couldn't have pieces not really match up at seams, so like, each pant leg is a single piece, same with the arms.

Since i didn't have no knowledge of sewing, i needed 2 months of fucking around with burlap to make it, and i still fucked up the measurements so i needed to sew a different material for the top of the head. Surprisingly, the hat was easy design wise, but a lot more physical work was involved, since i worked with a really thick eco leather.

You need to wear your gloves under the white sleeves, and also make the second sleeves (black with a white "edge", sorry, english isn't my first language)

Something helpful and that will make wearing it easier is making a full dress, I made mine with two skirts (inner white and outer black), and with both sets of sleeves sewn into it. Then the white neck part and beige lace are also sewn to the main dress! .

Also try to be a little more dramatic with your makeup, Doll's white eyelashes and eyebrows contrast a lot with the dark around her eyes.

I loved your costume <3 more people should cosplay bloodborne!

I didn't like the sensation of burlap in my face and I never did a mask. And the mask + vest used to be dirty, but the thing that we used (I don't remember since it was for anoter convention months ago) washed off with the time, so yeah.

Not the anons who replied to you but i would recommend using some earl grey tea as well. Don't use flavored teas. Also, as much as this sounds gross, alot of what you wear for this should be hand washed. Use fabric paints but water them down. Alot. Let it dry and reapply. This builds layers and contrast. You should also not be using actual burlap on your face. Inhaling the fibers is not healthy by any means. Use something that has the same look and feel but line it with a different fabric. That way it's not itchy on your face. I wear a mask made out of plaster and it's been heavily sealed. I have jack shit for vision and hearing but I'm willing to sacrifice that for the end result. It depends on how you paint it as well. Right now everything looks way too clean. If you need some more help let me know.

Strangely, burlap never itches me, but i found a nice way of solwing that problem. Set it on fire with a lighter/match. The fire will "run" over the matherial, burning away those strands that actually do the itching, just be sure not to burn yourself and put out the fire before it catches the biger strands. Gives of nice smoky ham smell too :D

If itching still persists, just put a nylon woman sock/stocking over your head and cut two holes for the eyes.

Steampunk is less 'cosplaying' and more 'dress-up' since you're not really going as a character. This is perfectly valid, just like LARPing and lolita, but the problem so many people doing steampunk have is that they don't properly stick to one era and instead mix in clothing or styles from spans of a few hundred years. It would be like seeing a crusader wearing Lorica segmentata, but with added bits and bobs designed by Tim Burton.

Steampunk is a good starting point, but branch out, or at the very least, do research and stick to 'historically accurate' steampunk.
