i want old vkei to make a comeback. i want these big ass hairdos and clothes to be incorporated. I love the old vkei style, I how well organized the community of fashion is like compared to lolitas do.
Recently i saw photos on my twitter about visual kei cosplay in a bar in Japan, looks fun.
also i abosuletely love this photo as well as all their hair and outfits. it's beautifully adorned, especially my first love's hair. like the color's and streaks.

Visual kei threads fail here because not enough people wear the style or are looking for advice about wearing it, so it just becomes photo spam of vk guys. I'd love for the visual kei thread to be more of an advice/help/inspo thread for people who are into or getting into the style and not just "look at this guy's attractive face" thread.

There are hardly vkei bands coming to the states anymore. In those days when they came every few months people would actually wear vkei and have several communities on livejournal.
I went to the FemmeFatale live earlier this month and I hardly saw anyone in vkei. There were only people wearing few fragments of japanese brands but nothing 'vkei'.

and of the jrock bands that do come and enjoy some success, like Dir en grey and X Japan, they abandoned their vkei image long ago.

it's similar to goth; young people are not drawn into the style because there are no current cultural icons representative of it. we don't even have any pseudo-goth pop-rock bands.

I also think vkei clothes can be found very easily in small doses. It's easier to buy pieces than say, lolita. In vkei most of the costumes are not store bought and are created as one of a kind pieces. So you have lots of room for DIY. You can even buy small pieces here or there in malls or big chain stores like Forever 21 such as jackets if you want something cheap.

I really like visual kei looks, but usually only on guys. Few are the girls that could pull off the look (like Akira chan), not to mention vk in girls remind me of these fake bois of today. The majority of girls that want to dress vk look too feminine face/body or just dress it cause "i dress like muh vk husbandos!" and sperg about making yaoi fanfictions with them. The same goes with any edgy androgynous hairstyle (like the infamous side shaved style, that usually look better on guys rather girls) or clothing, they look cool only with a certain face structure.
>sorry to sound a bit harsh, SJW dumblr is making me really biased

We should educate how to dress properly vk, also in case of too girly face/body... choosing a more femme vk look. See, many visual kei guys crossdress in aristocrat, lolita or other styles that could fit better most women rather than full androgynous boyish look. Or a cute jpunk look? Oshare kei bands have some styles that could work on girls more rather than darker vk bands.
It seems oshare kei isn't anymore a thing or i'm wrong?

This would be really good. I wear aristo when going full out, with a bit of a vampire/ vk edge to it. For casual, it's a looser, more everyday vk look to it. Was that the Wiltern one? It's the same one I went to. At least I think the place was called the Wiltern, it seems like so long ago, but damn it was awesome to see a band such as X live. It's like seeing KISS or Rolling Stones. I had a teacher who once said, "see them before they die!"

It's...not that funny now that I type it out, but, you know.

Listening to visual kei these days makes me really melancholic and nostalgic but especially the former. Especially when they're bands like Hizaki Grace Project and Versailles that you followed from beginning to end. I hate Kamijo's new music from what I've heard so far, he was so much better in Versailles and Lareine. And listening to MM makes me cry even though I didn't get into them until 2006 but they changed my life literally, haha. I wish MdM would make new music and not just covers of their old albums with Juka which are great songs but the originals are better. I'm listening to HGP now and the memories of 13 year old me having just gotten into all these amazing bands and lolita and being so excited makes me sad for how little I am excited now for music and even lolita. I did really like Flame Cross and the Blue Bouquet OP set, I've been loving/liking Moitie's new releases a lot again for once. I suspect Moitie will probably shut down prematurely and I don't want it to happen. What will Mana do? He wouldn't be in the G&LB anymore which is wrong as it was his idea. Sorry for 4:30 AM ramblings.

Oh god, i have the same feelings. I remember also a friend thinking about MM and M10M, because she loved both of them, we shared our love for vk, gothic culture and lolita but we didn't dare to dress like that years ago. We just lost contact and break up, thinking about MM make me really sad and wanting to go back in time. I'm more a fan of old school/plain MMM but i have no Moitie in my lolita wardrobe yet. Unfortunately people nowadays love more OTT stuff rather the full EGL, i hope Moitie won't close... i would have a heartbreak.

I want your guy's real input. Actually I got back to VKei really recently. I used to love it since i was a small child. Really, I've loved X as far as I can remember and also vkei. That was my 'phase'. I forgot about it but now I returned seeing as I'm old enough to enjoy shows without anyone else having to watch over me.Now I'm 22 and since June when Kamijo toured I went to go see him and i realized I need to love music again. Now that is all well and good but the music i loved now..it makes me feel like that. It makes me feel nostalgic and recently I had a panic attack this month, the first in my life. Granted my life is full of stress , but the first thing I thought of was 'I dont wan't to die'. I want to know if you guys think that vkei has triggered it. I have not been the same since then and I am seeing a therapist tomorrow because It is harming my life. Sorry for not posting anything worthwhile but this is the only place I can think of .

Yep. That was one of my favorite concerts to date. When I was younger, I was pretty sure that I was never going to see them in concert, but I consider myself fortunate that they gave the west a chance for an actual concert. The energy from the fans & seeing the band play "Art of Life" is something that is totally irreplaceable for me. It's a very precious moment for me & one of my friends.

But getting back on track, I've always wanted to try get my hair a hawked out like Toshi's, but I don't know how long it should be.

Tumblr is very dull and not allow much comunication like a forum, i usually reblog stuff but that is all. I don't like the evolution from forums communities to tumblr or fb.
There was a time when i thought visual kei looked perfectly matching with lolita, infact i wanted to have bf that was into vk clothing. Now, it's just... well also any alt/dark fashion is ok, visual kei died and only few guys or girls wear it as people do it with lolita.
>>8638893

Thank you so much. I just want my life back and continue liking vkei as much as I have always liked it. It's strange because these feelings and anxiety started to become more prevalent when I started to go looking in my X collection and rereading stuff and everything. I can't even properly listen to their music anymore.

I feel that while the vkei clothing declined Lolita began to expand more and more. It used to be balanced I thought, now I think it isn't balanced at all and the majority of jfashion that I see in concerts is Lolita, big pop color styles.

Lolita become more a costume and not anymore a "punk-y/rebellious" street style, i feel nostalgic to see old school lolita as vk. I like sweet and gothic but lolita lost its old feel connected with vk. In the past, many lolitas were into visual as well, but now... only few, usually the ones that dress gothic.

Seeing Femme Fatale at PMX kinda re-awakened all the VK feels for me. The only other lolita I saw at their concert though was Imai Kira (lol).
I think Kaya is one of the few guys in the biz who's actually legitimately into the visual aspect and even he said that VK is really "bright" nowadays and he prefers the more gothic roots. It was cool to see him in person.
I think Kamijo also is more "classic VK", partly because of his long career, but I also feel like he wouldn't just drop his look and persona to go mainstream.
All the "old school" guys should get together and make some kind of crazy super-band. It would be an amazing cacophony of noise and horribly clashing costumes.

I love "old school" vk guys too hehe, for example i love when Kozi get into new bands,XA-VAT is a good example, that 80s feel is pretty unique and original for a visual band not to mention their looks. I would like to see more innovative sounding visual bands, it seems all the old vk figures except Kaya, Kamijo (and other more less known) still make innovative music, while the new school bands are dull or not so much innovative in their sounds, they have just cool aestetics. Imagine if that was true, having all the old school vk guys in a big band... i think it would be amazing lol.
Ah yes, another "new" visual and gothic band is GPKISM, now disbanded but Gothic Prince Ken (the guy with black hair) still does musical attivities, concerts, etc.

I'm mainly into lolita, but I've shown my SO some stuff like pic related (by BPN) on some of the sites where l buy second hand lolita. He wants to get some things like this to mix into this wardrobe, but I really don't know much about finding this kind of style besides what is sold on websites I already go to. What are some accessible brands? Also, is there a certain term I can search for on sites like Tokyo Alice to find men's clothing since 95% of their stock is targeted for women?

I felt that way at the beginning but as time continued on and i listened to Arcana I realized just how interesting their lyrics and also their bass driven songs are. I really fell in love with Arcana the album at the second listen and I understood something was very unique and 'different' from them that makes them stand out.

I don't really listen to any other groups on the scene besides Jupiter and Kamijo and X. Is there any groups you recommend? Most of the groups are not to my taste and frankly, when I try to meet people and I say ' I'm not a fan of the gazette but I bet they put on a great show' they become very angry or etc. So it limits the bands I can listen to because usually people recommend me Mejibray, or Nocturnal Bloodlust. Not my thing.

I would kill to see them live, sadly they won't come in Europe!
I noticed so few bands into visual kei create music on the electronic spectrum, i wish to see more bands into electronic styles rather rock or metal. I wonder why this happens, maybe people associate visual kei with some music genres?Vk is only a aestetic/fashion sense, not connected to a certain music style only. Of course music and looks have to match but i want to see more musical variety into visual bands.

Idk if you're asking for examples or how to do it, so I'm gonna go with both. I just curl my hair with my straightener and that makes the curls loose enough that it's a nice wavy look. Do you tie up the top half layer of your hair and straighten the underside first? Cuz you gotta do that to make sure your hair is entirely straight, and go slowly. A lot of younger people don't realize this and end up with those random unstyled pieces of hair peeking out of the back.

I find it hilarious that normie girls are doing the "half-bun" style right now, because it's what you do to curl or straighten the bottom layer of your hair. Dumbasses.

Yep, I saw a few for Europe based trains coming into London, but I stopped looking at them since I'm not going. Why drive the nail of reality further into my heart?

>There is a overseas package that includes a meetin greet with Yoshiki.
I hear that they're doing the same thing for some of the shows over in Japan. Some people are pissed off that X Japan (or Yoshiki) even thought of that plan.

>It's like 1000 dollars.
For $1,000 bucks means: a plane/train ticket, a room, (not sure if food is included, but) breakfast/dinner, transportation to & from the show, plus a meet & greet with Yoshiki? I dunno. I wanna say that it's justified, but my inner miser is saying that's too much & to knock down the price to $650-$700 bucks.

BUT if the $1,000 was only to meet Yoshiki, my answer is a firm "fuck that shit". For a $1,000 I better be meet with the whole band for at least 20 minutes for autographs & pictures (No Toshi, no buy)

I'm not in europe so they'd be even more expensive for me!! FOr Yoshiki in Japan, i think it's only him but the vip are allowed to have a pre show viewing of the band getting ready. So expensive!

I also want to only pay that much for the whole band instead of just Yoshiki. HoweverToshis vip is better justify because he has a lot of time with you. His Vip is very justified because it even had adinner included and you can see inside the studio how he does music.

Yeah. The Japanese fans are a hardcore bunch when it comes to that stuff. But I think that the memories outweigh any sort of financial jibberish that comes after the show.

>However Toshis vip is better justify because he has a lot of time with you. His Vip is very justified because it even had adinner included and you can see inside the studio how he does music.

Oh yeah, he does the fancy dinner shows & stuff back in Japan. And I think you're right, for what Toshi (or Toshi's management) charges for VIP is either less or just as much as the X Japan one, but you definitely get more bang for your buck.

By the way, I was wondering if any of you X fans have a tumblr or any form of contact that I can reach you at? The other X forums are dead until Wembley or until more drama springs up.

Anyone else love Versailles but can't get into Jupiter because of Zin's awful singing? I just think his voice is too weak for the music, and lack of strong technique shows through. He comes across as though he was a younger replacement for Kamijo.

Also, what's this about a December 'reunion' of Versailles?

Malice Mizer, thanks to the song Gekka no Yasoukyoku, which is the Japanese name for Castlevania Symphony of the Night. In Gackt's solo debut, he pretty much dressed as Alucard the main protagonist of SotN. Through MM, I discovered Versailles, and through them Lolita fashion properly.

Not that guy, but I've never been to The Mayan, so my experiences are only limited to The Wiltern & the House of Blues on Sunset (RIP), but from what I've experienced, the more "dedicated" fans camp out on the venue to start the line & when noon hits on the day of the show, the line is already fairly long. I've also never been at the front of a Diru show, so that I can't help you with.

Kyo was kind of vk. His outfit was white robe on black pants and a black harness underneath.

When they played at the Regency in SF I would get second row by waiting a couple hours. Don't know if things have gotten crazier. Regency is fairly big too. I've had hands on the fence but most people who wait in line to be at the front don't vacate the front. If you're up close expect to get squashed so don't go up close if you can't hang.

I get photo passes nowadays so I don't wait anymore. 3 songs at front and then I vacate to the back of the room. That and I have that "job" thing
