Sadly it was a pre-order and they aren't up anymore it was a second release so there might be another though. Here's a collage of the details/other sides plus a picture on my unfinished (sadly unironed) patch because it turns out I don't have a finished picture on my phone!

I have only this on my bag. It's normalfag friendly and I really like its design. I wore the bag to a job fair a few days ago (suit-and-tie level professional dress, literally a bouncer at the door to kick out the underdressed) and no one noticed.

What are the typical sizes of the tote bags that people use this?
I want to make a custom print tote bag to match my husband. i'm really bad with sizes though, because some just list bags as "small, med, large" which could mean anything honestly.
like 99% of this is going to be handmade and commissioned because he's obscure so… might as well go all out.

it's perfect because i can take it to uni, since it fits a4 and also bulkier things like my lunch box, water bottle and umbrella

i think it depends on what you're going to be using the bag for, but most japanese girls' totes fit at least a4 from what i've seen

Fan merch typically won't look as good, and can be more expensive depending on if you are commissioning/ where you buy the fan merch.

The popular series usually have so much stuff that unless you are aiming for a rare pin or something competing with other people isn't usually an issue.

You might have some trouble getting stuff if you want merch of a character whose anime/game only recently came out though.

That's what I'm doing for my Pearl bag, since they have such little usable merch for her, its basically all fanmade stuff. I think it's pretty fun though, since I have a handful of artist friends who are more than willing to contribute their art for things like pins.
I also got a lot of screencaps as pins too and I'm collecting acrylic charms now. I also made a Pearl plushie (the one that isn't a Tsum Tsum)!

In addition to my itabag, I also ended up ordering a couple of clothes to wear with it ("You're just a phase" tank top, skirt, long sleeve shirt and leggings I'm still waiting on).
Pic related, it looks terrible, but I actually kind of love it HAHA

I really need to get a nice matching phone case, but I'm really clumsy and I'm too afraid to get those hard shell covers since I drop my phone a lot.

So, I've been thinking about what kind of ita bag I wanted to put together. Considered Rei from Free!, T.M. Revolution (finding merch with his face on it is difficult), Libra from FE:A, Caesar or Kakyoin from JoJo...and was about to settle on HieixKurama from YYH (muh otp) when I remembered another pairing I liked and actually have merch of.

Pic related! HakkaixGojyo from Saiyuki. I lost some buttons and their "trading pins" (still have Goku and Sanzo tho...), but I have a stack of these plastic cards. I want to make a general Saiyuki bag (with HxG focus), and I'd really like to make use of these cards.

Any suggestions on how I can get them onto a bag? I was thinking of a bunch of badge holders and linking them like people do with charms, but I'm open to other ideas.

Badge holders sounds like a good idea! I'm kind of in a similar situation. I have some bookmark type things that I want to use for my bag but I'm not sure how to put them on either. I considered taping safety pins to the backs but I don't want to ruin them if I ever want to take them off or something like pic related but I can't think of any way to incorporate it without it looking dumb or getting in the way. I'd also be interested in hearing if anyone else has ideas!

Not sure if they'd fit, but there are the card game sleeves for like Pokemon or YuGiOh. Maybe you can punch a hole in the back and thread them. Plus they're pretty cheap, so if it breaks, they're easily replaceable.

I'm the hinata anon from a few threads back. My bag has been through quite a few changes, but it's basically complete-ish. Until I decide to start decorating the back, haha. I also still need to find a clear bag that fits, but this is better than what I had.

The tote bag was like 1200 yen, the clear bag was $25 (I definitely overspent there), most of the pins were around 300-400 yen.

Well, the tanks fabric is kind of like this strange silky fabric. It's not bad, but it takes me a while to get used to it when I wear it. I got a Rick tank from R&M fit to my size, and it was super form fitting, so I would recommend you upsize one. The flagged images will be slightly fuzzy unless its like extremely tiny! the only thing is the shirt's pattern slightly annoys me because it actually curves a lot on the sides, so if you upsize your shirt you get this weird shape.
But for 99cents, I can deal with that.

I just got back from a 2 week stay in Tokyo, and my friend and I put together ita bags while we were there (starting from scratch). I saw a TON of ita bags while I was there (mostly Sports boys and UtaPri). I wish I was more outgoing and had asked for pictures of some of them.

I think the approach of customizing a bag to make it look like the clothes of your favorite character are a great option for those that either have too little merch to work with, or can't afford spending so much money but still want to try.
I wish I could post some examples but it's kind of difficult finding back the pictures I saw before.

Have a Nozomi itabag instead, since I'm tempted to make one since I love her and it's also easy to find merchandise of her.

Anyone know good sites for cheap tote printing?
My biggest problem is just finding totes that aren't super tiny or vertical. (I prefer horizontal bags). This is the best size Ive come across so far.

Progress on my bag. Everything is a mixture of FromJapan and Taobao, aside from the tote which is Storenvy.

My translated Taobao cart is cracking me up which offsets my urge to cry over how much all of this is quickly adding up to be.

Really considering making an ita-bag for Umaru with the tote bag in my picture. Trying to decide if I want to go for a more uniform/organized look with multiples of the same pin/charm or if I want to just use a bunch of different pins (because for some reason on Amiami there are a bunch of different pins and charms of her in her chibi form).

I think I'll probably go with a bunch of different ones. Amiami will only let me order 3 of one kind of button at a time anyway so it'll be easier just to get different ones as well. I was joking around with a friend about different novelty purses I could possibly find and somehow make into functional itabags, and then I came across this adorable apple purse on taobao. how difficult would it be to add some kind of metal hardware on the sides to string chains (maybe interwoven with fabric to attach pins) across the front?

or is this all just entirely unfeasible, and I should resign myself to totes and the like? the apple purse is just so neat, and it'd be a cute contrast with the character (fukutomi from yowapeda, who loves apples)... a part of me really just wants the bag anyway, but another part of me really needs to put the brakes on spending on character merch.

How do you guys pick the character you want to make a bag ? I'm having a really hard time deciding and I'm sure you all have more than one favorite character? I want to make a Nishinoya bag, but then I start thinking about the other characters because sports animes have too many qts and I can never decide on who's my utmost favorite. Like, Masato (utapri) is my absolute favourite and I'd make a bag for him in a heartbeat. But when it comes down to Narukami (p4) or Minato (p3) both of whom I love equally, I'd rather make one of Minato because he has the cutest merch/the most merch. I mean, now if you look, Narukami is getting more cute charms and straps but I still don't feel like I would make a bag for him at all. It's also just about how you feel, in your heart.

You could always make an itabag with multiple characters too, nothing wrong with that.

I've noticed that here people seem to be looking for clear totes to put their bags/merch in but in Japan the majority of pictures I see are just canvas totes with the merch hanging off it.

Is it just a personal preference or are non-Japanese itabag owners more cautious about losing merch because of how expensive it is to replace anything lost/stolen?

Yeah I think that goes without saying. It's harder to get merch in the west than it would be from the source. I also like having the clear plastic bag to keep my canvas bag clean.

i don't think they're less cautious so much as you can't put a cover around a suitcase
they may forego the clear cover for bags for aesthetic reasons (better photos, less glare) and they probably don't have to worry about stupid people trying to pull off or steal their merch

This fucking nerd who spends his entire time in the anime stuck as a baby.

There's only two keychains that exist- rest of the merch are either collectible cards, a poster, and a pass case. I plan on doing what other anons are doing and making my own items (I have one plush so far and over 100 screencaps for my own badges).

I also am considering making my own keychains (I made a shimeji of him so I can use those frames as good generic rubber charms) with this store:

Just warning pvc at vograce tends to run pretty pricey. Be prepared for one rubber charm to cost about $50. Maybe split the billing with others that want to make a similar bag. Their acrylic charms are really cheap though so that's also an option.

Oof, good to know. I may look at other stores/ do more research, but honestly I'm not expecting anything to turn out cheap if I go for PVC. Thank you for the heads up. Maybe the rubber charm will be a gift to myself around the holiday season. In the meantime, acrylic is fine.

Science arcobaleno is best arcobaleno. KHR is that one series that I love so much because I started it when I was a babby and to this day I love it. A Varia bag would be a lot easier in comparison since I own most of the merch and the four most popular have a ton of keychains.

I think adding a bag chain like pic related would be totally doable if you don't mind risking them falling off. Otherwise I would suggest making a flat apple tote bag out of fabric yourself.
