I'm thinking about getting tickets for the next anime matsuri but after all the deal I heard about last year in not sure. Is it worth it? Do they tend to have good guests and panels? Is there a better con next year that's close to it that would be a better alternative?

con was a poorly-run overpriced clusterfuck even before all of the management dramu. not worth your time

Now what. I just want to wear my lolita and meet other lolitas while surrounded by anime and comic stuff. There is only one comm in my state and it has only had one meet all year.

You could organize and host your own meet and ask your mods if they'd be okay with you opening it up to the comm.

They are really spread out. I may do this once I get my new car and can drive a few hours away to the city where our last meet was held.

Are there any good cons in the southern USA?

Mechacon is improving but it's still considerably small, I guess.

They get good guests. No one can argue the caliber of their guest list is tip notch. The biggest problem from an attendee stance (because as many accusations as there are they don't really effect the general attendees) is that events are very poorly managed. Things start hours late. They are also notorious for nickelling and dimeing. $50 for the tea party. $20-$40 per autograph. $25 per photo op. Have to pre reg to sign up for anything.
