This is a thread for outfits using Lolita pieces in normal/everyday/casual fashion or in uncommon ways.

I decided to start the thread because I like my Lolita clothes but I am tired of wearing petticoats, and I would like to mix Lolita with my daily wardrobe. Casual and low-or-no-poof Lolita pictures welcome.

From Alice Deco A-La-Mode Vol. 2.
Alice Deco Magazine features Lolita pieces used in unusual ways, usually in an over the top, deco style.

Don't be a douche. It's a thread specifically for using Lolita items in non Lolita outfits.

No petti is not bait, if done well this falls under the new term "Soft Lolita" as Misako Aoki calls it. It's similar to otome.

At this point shouldnt you just wear otome kei?

While otome falls under the a-la-mode category and I do think it's cute, I'm more interested in casual and funky outfits right now. To me otome is just as dressy as regular Lolita most of the time. I'm looking for inspo that's more casual.

This might be crossing into otome a bit, but some of it works for this thread.

I don't care if there's otome or other genre crossover, that's a part of the a-la-mode thing so it's all welcome!

I really like the green and pink outfit, I love those two colors together but hardy ever see it done.

I don't know, otome has a lot more emphasis on tastefully contrasting patterns and color combinations. It's not just the normalfag-looking alternative to lolita.
"Soft lolita" can be for those who stick to the matchy-matchy mentality.

Just out of curiosity, would anyone be interested in using a tag for tumblr/instagram for this kind of not-quite casual lolita? I don't know what's a good tag though, #lolitaalamode?

I actually dress like this occasionally whenever I wanted to wear lolita items with my family or nonlolita friends! I'm going to selfpost here as an example but I know I definitely need improvement. I started dressing like this in the summer but I'll likely continue it throughout the year and maybe to class sometimes.

>> No.8597926

>>8597774
Is this legit then because I only ever do casual lolita since my closet is still babby lolita size. Also are there any bloggers who style their main pieces in different coords? I feel like that could be a good topic/series for a blog or YouTube.

It was legit enough that there was an LJ community dedicated to it (daily a la mode), but over time most girls just kinda stopped posting, and the advice on wearing lolita items in a non lolita coord became "don't post it online" rather than "post it to daily a la mode instead of daily lolita".

If you're asking whether this is a legit thing in Japan, someone up above mentioned Misako calling it "soft lolita", but afaik her "soft lolita" is fairly new, daily a la mode is older than her use of the term "soft lolita".

I don't think the Japanese lolitas needed something to explain how an outfit is made up of lolita items, being worn by someone who knows what lolita is, but worn in a non lolita way out of choice rather than ignorance. The whole lolita rules has always been a mostly western comm thing because we have so much misinformation and prejudice to fight against -- prejudice from stores sellling "lolita cosplay sex costumes" and misinformed newbies going around saying it's okay not to wear a petticoat so long as you feel lolita, asking how to sew a lolita cosplay costume, etc, etc.

When you think about it, the daily a la mode tag would basically be saying "I'm a lolita, and I know the rules, but today I'm breaking them because I choose to. So don't bother preaching to me about the rules, I'm not a clueless noob".

Honestly, I think if enough girls posted under this tag/mentioned it in their blogs then that's how it becomes a legit thing. If we'd like this to be a recogniseable thing to do with lolita stuff, then might as well use the tag.

There's a post on egl showing a lolita dress worn to a meetup and then the same dress worn to work, that's about all I remember. That post got a fair amount of replies, so I'd say it's a pretty good topic if you do want to make a series of blog posts on it.

I like this, much better than the double 'a' in lolitaalamode being awkward to type, and not as horrible to explain as soft lolita.

Bottom half is okay for a la mode but don't wear that top ever again, it doesn't flatter you in the least. Go for a light chiffon top instead. And do something with your hair, wear makeup, and get a better bra.

Does stuff like this count as A La Mode, since it's a lolita skirt used differently?

>> No.8602824

>>8601884
I'd count it, that's the idea behind ala mode, pushing the limits of the clothes.
I see someone just made a thread for that and I don't know why. Maybe they never heard of the ala mode thing before so they didn't know there was already a thread for the same topic.

Oh Okay, I chose the top since the pink matched pretty well but I' see what you mean. I've already ordered some blouses a while back too so I'll be using those instead. I actually do have light make-up on and have my hair curled and pinned on the side with some gold accessories. I wanted to keep it simple and light, but I also live in a humid area so it helped not overwhelm me. Thanks for the advice though and I'll keep it in mind for the future!
