Question: How do you guys print out free patterns from online? This is like literally so stupid of me to ask but I've always wondered.

>> No.8553027

They either need to be tiled onto A4 paper so you can tape them together, or done at a printing shop

>> No.8553941

>>8552862
There is a program called "Posterize" and I also think there is an option in Photoshop. You can use those to blow things up to a certain size and then just tape all the pages together. It works well for printing out giant photos of props, too.

Gonna ask out of curiosity, but does anyone have any Noialand tutorials? I want to make some of her felt dolls, but if I can get away without paying for a pattern that would be amazing.

>> No.8554091

Dumb question. My three sizes are 34-26-34. So according to the pattern size chart I'd be size 12. I understand us stores have a problem with vanity sizing, but this doesn't seem right to me. Are pattern sizes just totally different from us sizes?? Are those measurements of the garment "laid flat", so it's only half the measurements? I'm really confused... I've become a pretty proficient seamstress lately but I'm still totally perplexed by commercial patterns.

>> No.8554237

>>8554091
Pattern's are on a slightly diferent sizing scale. Either way I always measure the pattern pieces flat then remove seam allowances to see what the measurements will actually be, or I make a mockup.
I have similar measurements to you and I will usually use a size 8 pattern because there are quite a few patterns that give 5-8 inches of ease in each measurement. If i were you I would try a mockup with cheap fabric to be safe.

>> No.8555027

>>8554091
Definitely do what >>8554237 says and do a mockup. My measurements put me everywhere between a 12 and a 20 depending on brand, but my "normal" size is about a 14. The sizing chart on them hasn't been updated in years, even though the actual patterns often use modern vanity sizing.

Also if you're a Joanns customer and the sizing still really baffles you I'd suggest waiting until the big $1 pattern sales and getting both sizes (because of course they like to split it so 8 is in the 'small' packet and 12 is in the 'large' usually).

Easy way to make checkered or harlequin fabric. I can't into moonspeak but it basically says "cut strips, sew along straight line, cut at angle to stitches (90 degree angle for checks, 45 for diamonds), line up pieces, sew along line again". Sort of like a cheaty version of patchwork quilting.

Pattern sizes are the same vintage sizes. They never adopted vanity sizing in their size charts, but they do include a lot of ease and size by high bust. You're going to be a 10 in a lot of patterns, but it will vary between 8 and 12. A lot of patterns will have finished measurements printed on the pieces themselves you can use for reference. Generally speaking, true vintage patterns and Vogue will run closer to size. Those Lisette Simplicity patterns are also generally true to size and smaller than other Simplicity designs by size.

As someone who regularly stuffs their bra, I would suggest using one of those silicone "enhancers" aka a Diva cup over socks. Socks will irritate your boobs after a while and leave you itchy with a rash. Also Diva cups don't shift throughout the day.

Sorry, in my country the silicone bra brand found in stores is called "Diva Cup" and it's been around much longer than the menstrul cup has. I believe they are also called "Freebras" or just plain old silicone bras.

How credible is this tutorial? I can't find any stretchy fabric that's the color I need, but I have a pair of tights that match so I thought about giving this a try

do you do a lot in your cosplay? This is for like a lot of standing and doing nothing but poses. The more you make the stockings move the more chances for rips and snags.

Every time I see this method in person, it looks so obvious. Socks and boots are not made of the same material. Buy some stretch leather (or whatever material best suits your footwear) and make real boot covers. They'll last longer and look better.
http://www.viciouscosplay.com/tutorials/stretchboots.shtml I used this method for my first time sewing and it was really not that hard.

Is there anyway to make a pleated skirt 1-2 sizes bigger without leftover fabric or am I fucked?

>> No.8564609

>>8564577
You're fucked, unless you made the waistband elastic and can just loosen it

>> No.8565843

>>8564577
Unless you let out some pleats or it has a really really deep yoke, no. I've successfully made one skirt a size bigger because it had a yoke type waistband (meaning it flares out over your hips). It was about 4" wide so I cut the top 2" off, lowered the zipper, rehemmed it and it fit fine since I took the tightest part out. This does shorten the skirt by that 2" though as warning. This is a nifty trick for thrift shop skirts, btw, since the XS/S section always seems less picked over.

I'm sorry for any english mistakes anon, but here's the sketch.
Basically, the blue marked lines are where you should gather the fabric lightly. About the hem, I like round ones to get more volume (like Madoka's white skirt), but if you want to sew the frills separate, you can do fine with the straight hem.

The neck area is just the same as a button-up shirt, adjust the size of it just so it will be enought to get your head in the hole.

The sides are open, but as a personal preference I'd sew the waist ribbon directly to the front of the apron, maybe even actually sewing it to the edges of the back piece just so it won't shift around (if you decide to make the back the same as the front).

I'm not an expert or anything, but this is a basict draft of how I'd go about making this apron! If you need some help visualizing it, look at Nameless Poem OP's shoulder area and you should get the idea better.

You could also do it as part of the dress, as you could have it that the edge of the apron sits below that bottom ruffle of the collar bit.
