Fucking tell me about it. I can't believe they'll take people's blunted metal or hard plastic props but do such mediocre security checks.

I'm a type one diabetic and so whenever I go to a con I mention that I have syringes and other medical supplies in my bag. The people are usually thorough and get through my bag but not at NYCC.

Every time I've gone they've just gone "yeh ok", poke the first couple things in my bag and send me through. Metal detectors or not, I'm suprised that such a major event in NEW YORK FUCKING CITY of all places has such lax security. I could have easily fit one if my guns in my bag and they would have let me walk the fuck through.

I hope it's better this year because it's only a matter of time before some skin head or royal kebab gets offended by something and decides to kill people.

But nah, no metal or hard plastic props bro.

They are big draws but I can always see them at another con or at next years. What I mean is that there hasn't really been a HUGE one time panel at NYCC. Something like the Daredevil panel last year, like the Star Wars panel at SDCC a few months ago. They had the whole fucking cast up there and more, you don't see that type of shit at NYCC. Autographing is a whole different story, I ain't gonna pay a big name a lot of cash just to take a picture with me and write their name on whatever I have. I know not all of them charge but that's some bullshit. I'm just playing doubles advocate here, I'm going all 4 days regardless of the shit they have

>> No.8592404

Big obstacle NYCC has is it's not near Hollywood. Studios will double-think flying sets out here for a 4 day con, but SDCC is just down the highway when you compare it to NYCC. You get big name actors at NYCC is they are live in town or filming here, but that's about it, but out in California, SDCC is just way more reknown with 30+ years under its belt like DragonCon. NYCC just became big 3-4 years ago

It's my 4th time going, last year sucked but I figured its a tradition for me to go with my friends so why not. I also live in NYC.

After-parties and making new buds

>Making any cosplay
I'm doing a duo cosplay of Alex and Ash with a friend on saturday maybe.

But on Thursday, Friday and maybe sunday I'm going as Tricky the Clown from Madness Combat. Yeah I know the series hasn't been relevant for years but I've always wanted to cosplay him. I've got someone making his face and mask for me, pic related.

I'm not 100% sure since I didn't book the room but I know it's one of the closer ones to the con center, I was definitely considering taking an uber but I wasn't sure since I've never used it before. I'm a poorfag but I'm scared of public transit so I'm ok with using the money for cabs/ubers. Also thank-you ahead of time for your help any info/advice I get really puts me at ease!

The new Hudson St - 34th st station opened recently. It's not even 2 blocks away from the Javits Center. If you can take a cab and get to a the purple 7 line, itll take you straight there without needing to transfer.

Google maps didn't update the actual purple line but if you zoom in by the Javits Center, you can see the (7)M . From there you can take an uber or lyft to your hotel!

Honestly this, there's really not much to be afraid of. Yeah, you'll get stopped maybe a few times, people asking what's going on, but that's really it.

I mean fuck, I've seen this guy on random days of the week outside my apartment building who goes around wearing these duck tape high heel boots, a jacket with no shirt, a giant top hat, and walks around with a cane. Nobody gives a fuck.

If you're really concerned, just save elements of your cosplay to put on later. I'm going as Scarecrow from Batman, and I'm just going to walk to the Javits center without my mask on.

Beside, the other thing is you're never really going to be alone. You'll end up seeing someone else in a costume no matter where you are in the city.

Wear your costumes to the con. It's NYC, no one cares as long as you don't clog up the sidewalk. The only thing you have to worry about are annoying tourists, and other people asking you if they're heading in the right direction for the con.

I take the LIRR to the con and walk to Javits, and I always seem to get assimilated into a crowd of people dressed up the closer I get.
