I've been ordering a couple different petticoats off taobao so just thought I'd pop in to say that this one arrived and it came with half the floof and has a cheap satin skirt under it. Basically the same quality of the ones you can buy at a halloween stores so just a heads up!

malco modes. idk why anyone buys anything else. theyre light, durable, and never fucking deflate. Had mine for a year so far, its been in vacuum-packed storage, stuffed in a gallon-size bag, washed in a top-loading machine, etc and its still as soft and poofy as when i got it. I stopped using my cupcake pettis altogether and just put a short petti underneath the a-line to create a good cupcake now.

Malco modes,Sam's is apparently ok though. The 580 is less poofy and more a daily petti, the 582 more triangular (so can look a bit odd if your skirt isn't full enough for it)

>> No.8548301

alright, melikestea and bunny house - what's the story on the deflation rate? they've been out long enough for people to have had them for a few months now. I want to invest in a really nice, really poofy one (i'm a max poof girl) but I don't want it to deflate after 3 uses.

>> No.8548311

Anyone know what styles of Malco modes petticoats Candy Violet used to sell? My first petticoat was their fluffy petticoat and if had monster poof before I pussied out and cut off one layer. It still has great poof but not enough when I want to go all out. I'm looking to buy another of the exact style, but in black.

>> No.8548418

>>8548301
Bunny house deflates way faster and way more significantly than melikestea tulle, but tulle is itchy as fuck and will cause pilling/rip tights if you don't wear a slip and bloomers, even with the lining. Obviously the non poofy melikestea ones are a different kettle of fish and will deflate more

>>8548311
Pretty sure that's the 582

how do brand pettis rank amongst indies? I wouldn't mind springing for BTSSB/AP if the poof is worth it. also a max poof anon here.

was looking at Snowfield earlier today as well, does anyone have any experience with those?

>> No.8548559

I have 3 petticoats that I've bought within the last year.

1. CP's Standard Bell-Shape - Soft, deflated a bit in the last year but I'm a classic lolita so I'm totally fine with that, feels very soft and the crochet lace is nice. Overall good shape, but if you're a lolita who likes to look like a fat cupcake, you will need to stack.

2. CP's giant long length A-line- a ton of poof, but still looks nice under tea length dresses and can be rolled up for huge poof on mid-length dresses, also very soft but the color (I got black) runs a bit if you get it damp at all. It hasn't deflated, but I haven't worn it very frequently.

3. MM's 582 - feels cheap and somewhat itchy, but outstanding durability. It's only gotten poofier in the last few months I've owned it. It's definitely very full at the bottom and a bit longer than some mid-length dresses so rolling it up is necessary. I can just stuff it on a shelf and it springs right back into shape. Would definitely recommend for a classic/gothic lolita just starting out.

>>8548418
really? so I know melikestea also does like 3 different fabrics to choose from. should I get something else? I don't mind dealing with the tulle too much, but I bought a tulle petti and it deflated pretty fast and is almost more like a daily petti.

>> No.8548568

Does anyone have a picture of the Malco Modes 580 under a dress/skirt? I need a less poofy A-Line petti so I was considering buying it.

I got one in voile, so far so good- I like it better than my classical puppets petticoat. It gives a nice amount of volume. Idk how fast it'll deflate though, since I haven't had it long. She does do organza also and I think CP petticoats are made from that also?

>> No.8548590

>>8548187
It depends on the shape of the skirt, some are bell, or cupcake, and some are a-line. It's a good idea to have a decent one of each shape, if possible. But most lolitas I know wear more than one pet to at a time for prime poof.

I loved the color on that one too! I have that petticoat, and it's not as poofy as in the picture, but it is fairly heavy and holds up great under heavier dresses. If I want more of a bell shape or just more poof, I stack my victoriangirldress petti on top of it. I also have a stiffer tulle petti that doesn't work well on its own but keeps whatever's under it from deflating.

>> No.8548736

I have a petti from The Snow Field that I really like. It's an A-line petti and I've taken to wearing it more than my CP petti.

I've worn it a lot and just store it on my closet shelf and it hasn't deflated to any degree that I've noticed. I am a classic loli though so if you like maximum poof it might not be to your liking.

The Snow Field closed up shop but I think they sold their things to The Lolita Collective? So they might still have a few.

I asked this in a different thread and was told it really didn't make any sense, but I thought I'd ask her anyway.

I have IBS so wearing a petticoat is really uncomfortable for me from the weight and the squeezing on my stomach. Bloomers are a must for me, I'm just not comfortable going without them, and unlike a petticoat I can wear them low on my hips in order to be comfortable without ruining the way my skirt lays or having the petti peek out. I wear a lot of casual and older styled stuff anyway, so I often prefer a minimal poof look. Does anyone make bloomers that are puffy enough to provide a little bit of poof on their own?

Alternatively, I'd be interested in attempting to make some kind of low poof petti or puffy underthings since I can make something that might fit the way I need it to, but don't have much for sewing skills and don't want to spend a lot on materials, so it would have to be something on the simple side.

that is because people without IBS don't understand that something even just barely gripping around the waist can feel like a death vice. Especially elastic.
I'm interested in the answers you get because I'm in the same boat. Can only manage a petti on the best of best of bestest days.

I took the elastic out of my Lolita skirts to make them wearable (found out the hard way the elastic in Lolita skirts is absolutely killer and I maybe should have ordered a size too big so it would be loose on me), and even after taking out the elastic the skirts still give me a little irritation. I know things like that can be hard to understand if you've never experienced them, so I try not to get upset with people who don't get it. I'm always sure there's things I don't understand too.
Lolita sucks to wear with health problems.

>> No.8549422

>>8549368
I do not have IBS so this may not be useful. but how do non-elastic waists feel? Maybe you could commission a petti with a zipper and buttons or a hook and eye closure, ask for something that is looser than your waist but not so big that it rolls down to your hips.

>> No.8549439

This may be a little too vague, but I'm a first time lolita looking for a good-quality cupcake and A-line petticoat. The cupcake is probably a priority because it suits the dress I have better, but shopping between Malcolm Modes and Taobao makes it hard to decide what would be "perfect". I am willing to spend decent money but cheaper is fine too. I have already got some ideas off the advice in this thread but still don't have a clear idea. My initial plan was to just get something from CP but I heard their quality flopped.

>> No.8549452

If you have time, are patient and are desperate to save a few bucks, you can make your own with cheap decorating organza. Amazon sells bolts of wedding decorating organza for about a dollar a yard or so. I have found that the cheaper, stiffer organza is better for petties, as it is less likely to rip and retains better poof, compared to 'bridal' organza. I suggest a serger or a gathering foot a very least if you sew your own.

I'm not sure if that would work or not, It might help, but I would think the weight of the fabric would pull it down and it would end up squeezing my stomach anyway. I had a surgery recently that basically made it so that anything that touched my tummy for the next month led to some awful pain. However I'd already agreed to go to a meet!
What I did was remove the elastic from an old petti and replace it with a drawstring. Then I used those clip-in suspenders to hold the petticoat up. I tightened the drawstring enough to keep the petticoat from sagging, but not so much that it was pressure on my poor tummy. The weight distribution felt totally weird but what matters is no pain lol.

I currently have the PT05 and PT0510 in tulle which I bought in April and haven't had any deflation, and previously owned the PT05 in a different colour for about 9 months without significant deflation. The PT10 by itself (which I sold) deflates a lot because it's only 2 layers, but the others seem ok. The thing with the tulle is just that it's itchy on bare legs and catches on delicate fabrics
