I'm from the UK too and everyone used to go trick or treating, all the kids where I live do it too. Only thing is that it's a bit of an unwritten rule that if you're say, over 15 you're considered too old. My normshit friends and their gfs want to go as an army of communist zombies, which I refuse to do. I had shittons of fun making my stormcloak costume last year and don't want to just buy some camo and facepaint.

I've been throwing together some easy ideas recently. I already have the stuff in the middle from other things. I realize that's a replica dress and since I'm only wearing it for a Halloween party at my college and to my local renaissance fair it shouldn't matter. It's only like $50. I'm also trying to figure out some easy yet cute wings to do and the shimmer shawl thing is looking good to me.

I'm kind of stumped on other accessories. I'm hoping I'll get more ideas as we get closer. I just know I need to order the dress soon if I want to get it well in time in case the coloring is funky and I need to switch up some stuff.

And for hair I'm still deciding between a Merida wig, long blonde wig, and my own light brown hair that is mid back length.

It depends on where you live. Where I live there are 0 trick or treaters so few people bother with decorations but in my grandfather's neighborhood in the same town the sidewalks are well paved and the streets nicely lit and plenty of old people and people who haven't had kids yet who go all out. There's one house where they literally have a guy with a rope, a mask, and a machete jump out of the tree after the kids walk past just so he can scare them after they get candy.

And since my siblings and I are all grown up and my Dad doesn't have to worry about taking us trick or treating he sets up as Texas Chainsaw Massacre at my grandfather's house. Chases the teenagers who are too old to be trick or treating with a chainsaw. Another guy dresses up like the devil and climbs out of a coffin. Then there's this elderly teacher who goes all out and decorates her whole yard as a haunted trail for the little ones. It looks like something out of a Halloween straight to TV movie.

I can't decide what I want to do for Halloween this year. Chances are I'll be handing out candy no matter what since I don't know anybody locally that does fancy Halloween parties. (read: parties that do not consist of a bunch of regularly dressed guys drinking beer while sluts unenthusiastically dance around in cheap storebought adult costumes.)

I was non-spooky last year, I think it's time to be mildly spooky again. I'm tied between dressing as a witch, a black cat, or a vampire/bat. Or maybe just wearing a cute coord with a halloween themed sweater.

I am very tempted to make my own cosplay of Draculaura but I'm 5'6" and considering her heeled shoes I feel like I'd be too tall for her since she's supposed to be canonically short. I'm also not certain which of her outfits I'd like to go as if I went through with her, some of them range from adorable to yuck.

>> No.8557990

>>8557942
Draculaura would impress the kids. They don't care if you're too tall.

I'm struggling to decided too. I took a theatrical makeup class last semester and learned how to make myself look like an authentic zombie but I want to do something pretty this year. My university throws a ball every year and there's a costume contest. I've always wanted to win just to say I did. Last year I came in third without meaning to by cosplaying as Mountie APH Canada and everyone kept calling me Dudley Do-Right so I just rolled with it. I got beat by an angel of death who made her giant black wings and wore an old black prom dress and a were-wolf pirate who had a pirate costume they'd gotten from their brother who used to LARP (It was really detailed and nice looking so I asked). So I wasn't mad in the least.

Of course for the males category some guy in a storebought superhero costume won.

It's my last year so I'm thinking about just not worrying about the contest.

I want to be a Sailor Senshi but I can't decide which one. I fit Sailor Moon's body type the best IMO and while she does have the most variation I don't think I could do the hair. I was thinking Sailor Chibi Chibi then because I do love her hair. Then I was thinking Sailor Jupiter because my grandma made me a costume of her one year when I was very young so I'd like to pay homage to that.

Also I'm not sure what the best tutorial would be. I saw pic related at Jo-Anns and while following a pattern with correctly measured pieces would be nice I just don't like the skirt and bodice. I feel buying a white leotard and going from there would be a good start but idk.

She wants to be a zombie mom with a little zombie baby coming out of her stomach and I'm still stuck between doing a clown or a nurse (basic, I know).

But on Halloween, I'll probably be giving out candy. It'll be a nice change from last year, where I was working at a haunted house. So I was thinking of doing something cutesy for the kids. I think this year I'm going to go with a "broken doll left in the garden" theme. I'm making a bib-style dress like the one in my collage, but out of green velvet and probably an ivory broadcloth. I want to work with a traditional dark green and rose red color palette. I really like the idea of a rose eyepatch with vines wrapping out around my head. Things I'm debating on:
- I'm making my own tights, but I'm unsure whether I should go with white tights, shironuri style makeup, and white gloves, or keep my skin and tights natural toned. I'm leaning towards natural toned.
- I'm stumped on shoes. I was thinking some old school clunky mary janes but can't decide on black or brown.

The ivory of the dress would look weird, I think, with a white skin tone and black shoes and a black neckbow, so I'm leaning towards a natural skin tone, brown shoes, and a brown neck bow. I think I'm also going to pin some faux rose vines over my shoulder, around my waist and skirt, and down one leg.

Any advice/concrit?

I hope you have a mile-high fancy powdered wig to go with that.

Not US-ian but my family always love halloween. We love any excuse to throw a party and we told some friends and local groups we'd do the house up so their kids could come trick or treating. Many years later word got out about our halloween house thing and loads of people actually plan their route to go by our house because they know we actually do shit.

tl;dr do shit tell people they'll come.

bonus story:
>have an animatronic butler called gerard
>he makes at least one child cry from fear every year
>its really funny

After seeing >>8562236 's post sharing their stories, I propose everyone share their favorite Halloween stories.

>my house is only house on street to do Halloween
>we're pretty much known as 'that house' and people come every year
>that year I outdo myself, make dirty and bloody nightgown
>tease the fuck out of wig and cover self in blood
>scare kiddies by stepping out from behind porch stone pillar
>no one comes for a bit
>sit down on the steps with my legs drawn up and candy in my hands to nom
>see two kids coming down the street
>instantly freeze and put my head down
>kids are talking about the decorations and approach the driveway
>think I'm a decoration
>lift my head and silently hold out hand with candy in it
>kids scream and run back to the sidewalk and then run across the street to stare at me from sidewalk over there
>"You forgot your candy.."
>can't for the life of me coax them back over to get their candy, even with the promise of chocolate bars

same night, I'm just chilling cause it's nearing 9pm

>car pulls up
>kid gets out of the car
>spots me
>gets back in car and slams door
>mom has window down, can hear her yelling
>oh shit, am I in trouble for scaring her kid?
>"You better get out of this car and get that candy or we're not going to any other houses!!"
>trying so hard not to laugh
>kid refuses to get out of the car
>mother finally drives off

Just be a creep man. This is a pic of my costume from last year, based on the legend of the Wendigo. Folklore is always a good start. I wast tempted to go more over the top, but there were some limitations to my costuming options (aka I needed to be able to get wasteyface and not hurt myself/others/be somewhat comfortable.) All I did was make some horns, sew up a quick hood out of curtains, and then roll all of my clothes in dirt and mud and fake blood. Then I took a blowtorch to them for good measure.
