>reposting from the last general

Gulls, I was wondering about your experiences with trading/swapping, specifically for brand prints and/or popular prints (like AP and Baby).

>Can you often find trades you want?
>How long did it take you to find a trade?
>How did it go? Smoothly or?
>Did you trade physically or through the mail and how were any differences (if through mail?)
>How did you get the other party interested in the trade, or how did they get you interested?
>Was it worth it in the long run?
>Have you ever received a dress with more damages than you initially thought it had?

I'm a little nervous getting into trading especially with popular burando prints and sending things through the mail. A swap meet would be ideal, but the local comm is tiny and last swap meet had absolutely nothing from my wishlist (which is huge). I thought of going to the Otakon swap meet next year if there is one, but that's a whole year from now and I have no idea how it may go, so... yeah, tell me your experiences?

The first and last time I did a trade (not last because I had a bad experience, but since then I've had nothing else I wanted to trade for) the way it worked out was surprising. I had the OP of a less popular print. It was a sales post but I said I would be willing to trade if someone had the JSK. Usually trades like that are a little more rare/slow to manifest (someone with a different cut/color that wants to trade for your cut/color) so I was surprised when I noticed a girl messaged me only a few hours after I put the listing up saying she had a JSK she could trade me for.

Everything went smoothly, both of us were satisfied. We both shipped USPS flat rate priority mail. The damages were both equal as well - we both had a few snags. I felt that my trade was worth it in the long run because even though I liked the dress I had initially, it wasn't very flattering on me at all. The JSK I got instead looks better on me, and I also love the color much more than the OP I had.

Anyways, if you are worried about trading, especially popular or more expensive or rare prints, do what I did: the person I was trading with had good feedback but since it was my first trade I was still nervous - I took photos of various stages of it going into the box at the post office. Might sound weird, but I've also heard of people taking video of themselves packaging it up. It will all be very helpful should you run into problems with the person trying to publicly accuse you of wrongdoing, or in the case that you give each other money, trying to falsely file a claim with paypal. Some people that trade will just buy each other's dress or give each other an equal amount of money and when the trade is over, refund each other. My trade was within the same country, but for international trades, I think I would be more likely to take on some of the extra precautions like videoing myself, exchanging money, shelling out $$ for tracking, etc.

I hope you have fun, lolitanon. I know that feel of fearing being a basic bitch, but in this day and age of ott, you might end up making a statement. Imho, I think the lolitas attending the event would rather see people wearing well put together coords than a Milanoo mess anytime. I would try finding statement accessories or pieces that would complete your coord while making it cohesive and that you wouldn't normally see in a given lolita outfit, like interesting pair of vintage shoes or hats or broaches (as opposed to a rosette for example). I hope you're already checking out the interacting in a meet up thread and will utilize the coord help thread, too.

From my experience in going to huge meets where people are expected to go all out, it's ok to not mingle with everyone, and chances are you're only going to have so much time to talk with people and there are others like you who are the same way about going to social events. Make it a goal to make at least one friend. A tip is to stay away from your phone as much as possible. I think it's ok to sit quietly and observe until you feel comfortable. I'm used to hosting events and I notice the quieter ones in the group pretty quickly (and that's ok! I'm usually a quiet person, but my head spins a million miles per hour). I prefer the good listener over a chatterbox who thinks they know everything and talks over people. I think you'll run into people who will make the effort to invite you and others like you into conversation.

Love the idea, but the execution of whatever design they came up with...it's messy to me. The border print is strange, and that weird pattern (on the blue part in that photo) is so off.

They've done much cuter religious prints.

Thanks for agreeing anon, op of that post here.

It's perfectly fine if she wants to be an ageplayer, for example, we already have plenty of those in the community. However, a distinction must be made away from the fashion itself that not all lolitas are ageplayers. Many of the people with that fetish keep it separate and personal from their presence in the community. This isn't directly about her at all, but as a small part of the reputation that the fashion has in general.

>You can't go around telling people to stop being who they are just because it might reflect poorly on you.
I find it funny that an anon on 4chan says we don't have the right to correct people about their fashion choices. On the /cgl/ board. It's kind of what we do here. There was never even a remote hint that anyone would have to change their whole being and personal choices just because we disagree with the title she's bestowed on the fashion. Which is the whole issue, the title.

If Melanie chooses to ignore the asks, that's fair. If she defends her own opinion, that's fair as well if she claims it to be separate from the fashion and just a part of her own image. And if she claims to be involved in the fashion as more then just someone wearing a dress and claiming to be a lolita, that's also fair, but hurts our image.

To some lolita is just clothes, to others a lifestyle, and to even more it just seems right. I personally support any style someone wishes to wear as long as they are well informed of what it is they are trying to do. You don't form your own stylized art without learning basic anatomy, just like you don't form your own lolita style without knowing the fashion basics. With outdated links, anime comparisons, Tumblr in general, and misconceptions between the book Lolita and the fashion; it's just best to know someone knows we are a large group of people with a culture. And no one likes to be misrepresented.

You barely get compensated for it. In my state it's like $6 for the day you have to go in (when I went for voir dire I was there from 9am to 4pm, so I only got $6 for that ENTIRE time). And if you get picked it goes up to a pathetic $8 a day. Some states are higher, but not by much. Something like max $10 or $12 a day if you get picked, and nothing is based off of how much you get paid at work.

So the shit pay makes people not want to get picked even more. Especially if you work somewhere that doesn't pay the difference of what you got for your time at jury duty. You'll pretty much be out full paychecks because of your "civic duty".

i don't think so, no. it's just the design of the dress. certain dresses might look okay with a belt but it'd really depend on the dress and the body of the person wearing it, I think.

the only thing I could think of that could give it a defined waist is if you put some sort of corset tights in the back to pull back the extra fabric around the bust and waist area to make it more fitted in the bodice but I'm not sure if that would work the way it works in my head, lol.

ask them again, be pushy. this is your money, and if it does turn out to be a scammer, it's still a pain in the ass trying to get your money back even if pp is likely going to side with you if they run off with your money.

send them another message asking for proof pictures, and explain your concerns. if they get mad at you for asking or being understandably worried, back out of the sale, and have a message/caps ready to send to mods if or when you get negative feedback. imo, I think it's perfectly reasonable to back out of an auction or sale if someone can't come with proof that it is their item, esp with 0 feedback.

i also just don't understand this "it's in storage" business, i hate sellers that do that....if you're selling something, take it out, take proper proof photos, show me that you actually have it ready to ship.
