old school ita = milanoo lace monsters
modern day ita = taobao/bodyline with no blouse and ballet flats
>What do you think is one of the most commonly mistaken "loliables"?
F21 blouses. Often I see them in coords with only a bodyline skirt and a crapton of other "loliables" at that point I think the outfit stops looking like lolita and more like a cheap attempt at emulating the style. Normalfag blouses can work with lolita, but you have to already have a firm grasp of the style to make it work. Newbies think that any chiffon blouse can work with lolita, and that really isn't the case.
>How do you personally differentiate between an ita and a nitpick?
If it hurts to look at, it's ita. If it could be fixed by changing a few things, it's nitpick.

Difference is probably more replicas and OTT sweet done terribly.
>What do you think is one of the most commonly mistaken "loliables"?
Probably blouses and shoes. I find most loliable blouses look terrible.
>How do you personally differentiate between an ita and a nitpick?
Nitpicks are quite different in my opinion. When I see an ita it seems like most of the outfit needs to be replaced to fix it when it's a nitpick I could say to replace a few things here and there and it's fine. Plus anyone can nitpick any outfit honestly.

>What do you think is a staple in the ita's wardrobe?
Bodyline, "loliables" they got off of Taobao resellers, cheap flower crowns, and at least one pastel wig.
>What do you think is the difference between the old school ita and the modern day ita?
There's been a shift from gothic itas to sweet itas/classic itas. The theme of bad quality, bad fit, and special snowflake syndrome remain constant.
>What do you think is one of the most commonly mistaken "loliables"?
Non-lolita skirts that are full enough to house a petticoat, especially if they have prints.

at least one of the classic bodyline prints (squirrel party and the clock one are probably the ones most used by itas), office-tier blouses, hello kitty accessories, and a wig with twin tails.
>What do you think is the difference between the old school ita and the modern day ita?
old school itas can at least be excused by the fact that brand wasn't as readily available as it is today, nor were there so many helpful resources, unless you knew that lolitas were mainly on LJ and thus could go to them for help.
itas nowadays have no excuse because there's so much information out there (the guidebook, FB groups like BSoLF, etc.) that's easy to access, and brands can be purchased from with ease, both new and in second hand markets.
>What do you think is one of the most commonly mistaken "loliables"?
again, office-tier blouses. i swear, newbies always think that any white button up with puffy sleeves can be ~loliable~ and that grinds my gears. if i were to choose a second one, i think it'd be getting ballet flats instead of actual lolita shoes, or at least shoes that are more elegant.
>How do you personally differentiate between an ita and a nitpick?
in general i feel that if it's painful to look at, it's ita. if it can be easily salvaged by swapping out a couple things, it's nitpick. if the main piece is ugly, it's automatically ita in my book.

Most resellers put a really big markup on it and often don't even have it in stock but order from TaoBao when you order. Other times if you just want one specific item, it can be cheaper and quicker to use a good reseller if they have the item in stock and don't mark up too much. But it's sometimes hard to tell good from bad until you know TaoBao prices better and with planning and a group order or ordering several things at once, it's often much cheaper to order through a TaoBao service but it takes longer to arrive.

classic itas

>striped socks
>maid elements
>body odor
tumblr itas/second generation itas
>bodyline dress (usually squirrel party or antique clock) or

>sugary carnival, milky planet, or some other popular super sweet print
>cheap pastel wig that doesn't match the coord
>sideswept bangs because "waah i don't want to cut my wig"
>skeleton tights
>those fake cat knee socks
>gothic makeup (black lips, heavy eyeliner, the whole thing)
>otherwise inappropriate makeup
>inappropriate accessories
>wearing sweet accessories with a gothic coord or vice versa
>failed attempt at combining sweet and gothic (bittersweet or some bs like that)

Striped knee-high socks.

>What do you think is the difference between the old school ita and the modern day ita?
Good question! Hm. I feel like a lot of itas in the past didn't even have bodyline or anything to order from, and there was more handmade ita shit back then. Now it's easier to access lolita pieces, and a good number of itas I see are in bodyline, taobao or even 2nd hand brand, but they wear it with no petticoat, mismatched socks, and blouses that don't fit the aesthetic.
>>What do you think is one of the most commonly mistaken "loliables"?
Like things people use for lolita that aren't good? Thrift and F21 blouses that don't fit correctly, have gaps between the buttons, etc
>How do you personally differentiate between an ita and a nitpick?
Basically I try to only call things that are truly itai 'ita'. Does it hurt to look at? Is it completely, utterly unsalvageable? If so, ita. If a few changes could be made to the coord to make it better, nitpick.

Old school itas get a little bit of a pass, in my opinion. Most of us who had an ita phase pre-2008 were just working with what we had since lolita wasn't as accessible as it has become with the rise of taobao, the raise in Bodyline quality, and the overall availability of more resources in recent years. Nowadays, itas are just lazy, have poor taste, or make up a gajillion excuses to avoid admitting they're wrong. Tumblr has really fucked things up, too.

If the outfit looks passable at first glance and I have to look at it a second time to see that there's something off about it, I usually put it in the nitpick category. You can tell when something is ita right away.

If you wear OTKs, buy or make sock suspenders like this and clip one end to your sock and the other end to hem of your shirt. Not only they keep your shirt tucked in but they also keep your socks up. You should only need one for each leg (clip them on the sides instead of front/back).

(You can take apart two of these kids' suspenders to make them: http://www.ebay.com/itm/252010062701))

Also you can get a relatively tight wide elastic belt and put it around your waist first before putting the skirt on.

On the flipside I've always wanted to make a blog taking these pictures but maybe being more constructive. I see so many girls on tumblr with really bad bodyline pieces that look like shit. Not that bodyline is bad per se but that there are much better pieces that bodyline (or other off brands for that matter) offers.

I wanted to start with super basics, like knowing your measurements and how to measure yourself. Doing the "lolita absolute basics" petticoat, blouse, shoes. (with links to said things) Basic style and fit things...

And then maybe graduate to taking someones post and pointing out improvements. Not sure if I should be a goodie goodie and ask first or just use it as an example..

I have a lot of ~plans~ but am too afraid that others will rip into it if i get some info wrong or have my own opinion on certain things.. eh

First, if the blouse has waist ties, use them to make the waist smaller. If not, take the blouse to a seamstress to have the waist taken in so that there isn't so much excess fabric there.

Second. Once you've worn your blouse and tucked it in, raise your hands straight up in the air. The extra floppy folds will show up once you put your hands down. Now, pull an equal amount of fabric out from the front and the back of your blouse, and make a sort of even fold all the way around your waistband, like pic related (sorry for the non lolita pic).

You can't really help pulling fabric out of the waistband every time you move around (hence the other anon's comment about YMCA...), it's easier to have the extra fabric already out there but redistribute it and make it look even rather than have floppy folds only at your sides.

Other option is to not tuck in your blouse, get the kind that ends exactly at your waist and has frills along the bottom.

Since a bit of discussion helped keep the thread from derailing last time, let's try that again.
>What do you think is a staple in the ita's wardrobe?
Lots of non-appropriate loliables (see below), Milanope, poorest of poor quality replicas that they wear often, pastel twintail split wigs, lots of cheap kids jewelry, ballet flats, The same Loris bags (star with the ribbons on it for example), bad handmade.
>What do you think is the difference between the old school ita and the modern day ita?
Old school ita tried with what was available to them with limited resources and outlets to purchase items and failed. Modern Day ita is someone who didn't bother to spend some time researching or developing an eye for choosing proper items. There is so much information and so many resources available now that newbies can avoid looking like a terrible hot mess if they spend a little time learning. Granted, some things still come with skill and experience, but you can look halfway decent these days even if you do just buy Bodyline.
>What do you think is one of the most commonly mistaken "loliables"?
Probably blouses. It's not impossible to find a nice Lolita-appropriate blouse. But it's going to require some hunting and luck as well as a good eye. You can't just grab any old blouse from a thrift store. Beginners are better off buying even a Bodyline blouse. Shoes are also a big offender. There are some cute af shoes out there in mainstream fashion that can work amazingly well with lolita. But they always make terrible choices when it comes to shoes.
>How do you personally differentiate between an ita and a nitpick?
Like others, if you'd have to scrap it and start all over, ita. If you need to change or fix a few small things, nitpick.

This blog honestly just reads like the newbie's idea of the "Elitist" stereotype and is sort of embarrassing to look at. Not saying the content being reblogged isn't ita, but all it's doing is fueling rage in tumble itas. I think it's the neglected sub-style with the most potential if people cared to do it correctly but the only way Wa is ever done well is by the few people who learn how to put on kimono half-way decently, use a real kimono or yukata and also understand how to do understated lolita coords well...and that pool of people is vanishingly small. Most people interested in kimono do traditional, gal style or kimono hime style, not Wa-Lolita.

Otherwise with the very different shapes and pieces, Wa lolita quickly gets cluttered, fussy-looking and ita with patterns, trim and accessories even if they can manage to get a decent shape going and aren't just a beach ball in a fluffy tube.

I almost wish that the this-aint-lolita blog would just stop responding to those people. No justifications of why, just post it all there. Post asks you receive, but do not answer them. The itas will be mad, but even more so they will be infuriated by the lack of response, and then try to research information to prove you wrong and come up short, thus educating themselves. I agree with not defending why the photos were posted but the blog is new and the owner is having fun responding for now so it's all good. It is not about defending or explaining. It's best to just leave it there and let people figure out why it is there for themselves. A blog that is "hateful" is not a source of inspiration, those people are not going to aspire to be anything like the blog owner. If the owner does not respond those people will become mad and confused and look for their own answers either through validation or online research - either way which will end up with someone who they will actually listen to telling them what they need to hear.
