I'm trying to come up with ideas for Halloween, and I've been thinking of doing a Rilakkuma inspired coord. Since the weather is fairly awful during that time of year I might try making a comfy hooded jacket as the main piece. I'm stuck on what kind of dress to use, though. I was thinking I should start hunting for APs Polkadot Chiffon Cutie Ribbon JSK in yellow. Would anyone have alternate dress suggestions that could possibly work or is the whole idea bad?

I have realised I have never coorded a jsk in my life and I am unsure of how to choose a blouse for it. Does this neck line look all right with the jsk? Also the neckties look weird tied halter or crosses across the chest because they are so thick, should I just tuck them in? Also I can move the bow up to the collar of my blouse, would that look cute or like those people that put the detachable waist ties on like comically large bowties?

I'd prefer an oversized peter pan collar with it, old school style. Or just something around there to cover the rectangular bodice shape, you know? It's quite a sweet, even old school, sort of dress. And yes you tuck in the ties. You can use them with a bolero or a low cut blouse.

Unfortunately I don't have any blouses with a peter pan collar otherwise I would, and I don't have time to order one before the meet. I have one rather plain white cutsew with only a small pink accent with a peter pan collar but it looks strange to me when I tried it. I'm borrowing a cardigan off a friend but I won't see it till tomorrow so hopefully that will work. I'm getting this in the mail soon and wondering if anyone has good third colour options for this dress beyond the obvious black and iris. I am pretty sure I have legwear and hair accessories that match the purple as I've seen in person before, but I was wondering what you all thought about other shades of purple or a totally different colour - maybe dark teal green?

Needs wrist accessories with pearl details. The watch on the socks doesn't fit though. I'd go for socks with moons on them to tie in the headdress better.
Also, are the buttons on the jsk silver or gold or white? If silver, might want a bolero, but that might just be me.

the socks are the ones that came with the dress, they're series socks, lol. I have no idea why there's a watch on them because that's the first though I had too...I think it's because there's watches on the ground in the print. If it helps, the watch on the socks aren't really that noticeable once I have shoes on. Of all the things on the dress Meta could've chosen to put on the socks...the not-that-noticeable watch is what they chose.

Should some pearl bracelets be fine?

pfft i'm finally making super slow progress on this. Periwinkle is so fucking hard to match.

So a few questions:

- I decided that I really like these purple shoes. (the 56$) The only place I've seen them on is aliexpress (which i buy from all the time). Does anyone know a more legitimate store that sells them? OR if there a store that sells cheaper ones? (I don't mind paying full, I'm just wary of buying something above $30^ on aliexpress.)

- Which stockings would look best? I feel like the white might break up the colors nicely, but does that look weird with cream?
(Speaking of which… why are the cream color things for so dark?? uhg)

Lolita help needed here and i don't think ya'll check the help thread much. So i have this blouse. And i can't find wrist cuffs that will match with it perfectly. It;s a slightly more of a yellowish creme white in person. I bought it to go with this jsk
http://www.my-lolita-dress.com/neverland-lolita-prague-astronomical-clock-series-corset-jumper-dress-gc-23
Ok SO
I only plan on wearing this top with JSKs ever. Would it be uncouth to remove the ruffles under the waist area and make those parts into my own perfectly matching wrist cuffs with a few goldstone beads and a star charm dangling from the center?
Also the bottom 3 buttons make little nobs/lumps under the jsk's bodice area, i was thinking about removing those two and replacing them with flat buttons. How does all this sound?

>> No.8501558

>>8500531

It's not really the uncouth-ness, lolita items are often sold when the owner no longer wants it anymore. By the time you're done with the alterations the blouse will have nearly no resale value (taobao brands generally don't have really high resale values to begin with anyway).

As long as you're okay with that, and you're fairly sure you have the skills to make the mods, go ahead and do what you want with it.

As for replacing the buttons, I'd baste one flat button on and try the jsk over it to see whether it still makes lumps under the jsk before committing to replacing them. If it still does, you can try putting snaps on the inner side of the plackets instead. Alternatively, adding a stiff interfacing to the jsk that goes over the buttons may be a better idea, so that you can choose to wear other blouses with it.

Unlike the other anons who've replied I actually like the light beret with it. Especially since there's so much dark brown in the bust area of the OP. You could always clip on a dark brown bow to the beret if it seems unbalanced, I guess. I prefer the socks you have picked out to the brown colorway of that series' socks.

A little of both. Don't wear super high collars or low rounded ones with OTT sweet or sailor collars with gothic, stuff like that. Classic can handle pretty much all sorts of collars.
As for jsks, the only trouble you might have is with unusual jsks (halter neck, sailor collar) or with low, round collar chiffon blouses. For the former, have a nice bolero; the latter looks good with standard square neckline jsks, but sweethearts and narrower set straps don't work out well.
In the end, try on your jsk/blouse combos before you finish a coord, and don't be afraid to stop by here for advice.

Welp, this is my first attempt at a coord and wow accessorizing is definitely not my strong point.
I guess I'll start with the lace tiara. If I were to get it over the metal one, I'd be choosing between the medium and large sized one-- for the life of me I can't seem to visualize which would look better. I was thinking of keeping them from slipping off my head with one or two of the pins pictured below them.
For the shoes, I'm torn between shiny gold and matte navy. I'm worried that the gold might be /too/ shiny, and would also like to bring out the navy in the OP.
As for what I've mostly decided on, I've narrowed down the earrings to choosing between the ones at the top-right and above the choker, and I think I will go with the bag next to the OP unless I find something better/receive a better suggestion. Thanks in advance for any input, y'all are free to (politely, pls) rip this to shreds if it's shit.

I'm not super fond of the tiara. I would love to see a very elegant braided hairstyle with those hairpins but I know that might be hard to do and your natural hair may not work out. The lace tiara looks a little hokey compared to the metal one. This coord would look nice with maybe white and navy pattern tights with matte navy shoes, and a navy head accessory. Alternatively with white socks you could do gold shoes. The bag is cute but if you could get a hold of one of those book purse bags in white with gold accents, that would match the fairytale sort of theme.

Basically all you need to do is trim it with lace, bows and ruffles and it'll be lolita appropriate, that's all that the brands do for their turtleneck cutsews.
That being said, I would say plain turtlenecks are best under jsks and worn with a necklace + wrist cuffs or at least some accessories around both areas to detract from the plainness. In otome outfits and casual lolita you can sometimes get away with them as is.

So, this is my first, actual planned-out coord-- I'm planning on taking the black ribbon off of the straw hat, and adding my own lace ribbon, in either white, red or checkered, perhaps a flower to add to the embellishment, or something like the bow right next to it.

The buttons on the side are little wooden strawberry buttons I plan to sew onto a cream knit cardigan (not shown, because it's a random cardigan I bought) to fit into the coord. Not sure about the tights, they're probably shitty quality, so I'd like recommendations on tights!

The blouse is just an off-white/slightly pink/cream? colored Axes Femme blouse, and off brand shoes.

I have a cream purse that I might use, because I'm not sure if I want it to be too sweet with a strawberry-shaped purse. I haven't dabbled too much into accessories.

I haven't received the JSK or the blouse yet, so I'm not entirely sure how they'll match in terms of colors-- the picture of the JSK in the collage looks more warm toned than other pictures, which I thought would go better with cream as opposed to powder white. I can't find an actual worn picture of it, however.

I was kinda going for main colors being red/cream with white accessories to match the white details on the JSK.

Only if the coord is clearly ballet themed. Otherwise they look awkward and flat, like how regular ballerina flats tend not to work

>>8509375
Cream with white can look very much like you don't know how to tell the two apart. I wouldn't use cream for this outfit personally since the white is an accent on the JSK rather than a block of colour, plus there's nothing that's white and cream together (which can often help tie it in) - so it looks less intentional and more like you mismatched your colours

it's just overplayed and out of style. now, out of style doesn't necessarily mean bad, but things like candy colored split wigs, multicolored wigs, etc. have passed their expiration date at the moment, people are sick of seeing them because they're overdone and people have seen too many crappy coordinates with them. in the way that madonna crowns aren't necessarily bad, but people are starting to get tired of seeing them because they've been overdone, badly and shoehorned into coordinates.

anyways, I find that people don't mind unnatural hair colors too much as long as it fits with the coordinate, but the biggest turn-off for me personally (and I think other anons will agree?) is the blackxred combo. it sort of has negative connotations with it as it's associated with 3edgy5me stuff. now, I can see why someone would think redxblack wig would fit with a blackxred coord but it just doesn't with this one....the hair is too casual for me in that the style just reminds me of a hot topic mall goth, while the dress is a bit more elegant. I think there are certain styles/coords that can get away with multicolored wigs but this isn't one of them. to say it in less words, the color combo just makes it look cheap.

Okay, I need help figuring out what to do for headwear for this casual outfit... I have white OTK socks and pink shoes (although admittedly the pink is slightly the wrong shade, but they're the best I have) and the wrist cuffs I have are actually hand-made with white ribbons, but these are pretty close to what they look like...

I was thinking maybe using the removable bow from the skirt as a hair accessory, but aside from that I don't really have much that matches super well... Any ideas? Should I just make a big pink headbow to match the ribbons on the skirt? Somehow bring chocolate into it?

>> No.8511517

Q pot has some wonderful accessories that would make it easy to add to the chocolate motif.
For hair accessories, since it's casual, put more effort into the hair style. Could do a headbow, but don't use the skirt bow for it. I agree it should be pink however.

Have you given any thought to pulling the cherries out for color and the motif? Would be really cute if you have shoes to match the red, and a pink head bow with cute cherries on them and a cherry bag. You wouldn't have to have all of the accessories match with that, chocolate rings/ necklace would be super cute with it too.

Your sock choice should probably have the mint color either way though, unless the skirt has mint? I can't tell.

> pink or turqoise

Choose the one that goes best with your season/skintone, you'll look prettier. If you don't know your skintone's season, now's a good time to google and find out.

>which style

Choose this according to your intended meetup, or intended effect. Short sleeves for a summer meet/ meet in a warmish location, or if you want to convey a cute look. Longer sleeves for a slightly more mature look.

>other

Ditch the veil. First, this one was meant to be worn under other hair accessories, not on its own. You're going to look like you're wearing a dustcloth if you don't balance it out with something big on top of it (like, say, the flower crown that it originally came with). Second, veils are usually so OTT they should be reserved for events like posh tea meets, burando tea parties, or at least something you're sure your comm will dress up outrageously for so that you don't look overdressed for the occassion.

If you really need a veil, I'd go with something much shorter (if you're going for an OTT meetup then a longer length) and in tulle instead (more transparent so it looks less like a dust cloth), and make sure the top has some matching decoration, or add the headwear from the same series to tie your outfit together.

I like the top version but the red version looks somewhat forced. Maybe a few more additional navy blue accents would help to tie the two colours together, eg add a matching navy blue bow onto the handbag or the beret, maybe a red brooch onto the dress. Alternatively, you could always do a pop of colour -- everything in navy blue, and then just one red item (can be any one).

I'm not a fan of people who try to overdress AP's simple chiffon dresses, it generally looks a mess. The dress itself is designed to be simple and cute, so I'd roll with that instead of trying to force peignoirs and veils and other kinds or junk onto it.

You need to look at colours against your skin as well, your hair/eye/skin colour mean nothing without knowing whether you are warm or cool toned, whether you suit bluer or peachier pinks, true reds or more orangey ones, etc.

The bolero looks like it might be awkward with the neckline of the jsk if you wear it underneath, the beret looks too beige for the outfit and the tights are pretty boring - go for socks or at least some texture. Red would be a cute accent I think.

this is in a bad spot rn but thats why im posting here obvs. (not the wig im gonna use but just an idea of the look i want)

so i really like this bodyline op and i was thinking of doing something witchy for october but boy am i lost. i really only have ideas right now but i wanna make sure i'm looking for the right things at least... i know i'll probably end up doing a lot of stuff on my own.

i like the cute look of the witch hat but i'm going to make mine bigger. im also unsure about using striped socks/leggings (i wont use those, but just for an idea) or if there are any cute leggings that might look better?

im also unsure about shoes/the arms/bag. i want to stick to purple/black and gold but im having a hard time finding cute shoes in a deep enough purple, and same for bags. i also want something for the arms (i hate the jsk's look) would all blouses look bad under this or is there a few shapes that might look good? i want to cover the neck i think, too.

i wanted to intially have a dress that had that "sheer" fabric trend going on too like a lot do lately around the skirt but i think it would look bad on this... would a bundle in the back or on one side look bad? or should i try to get a cute "draped" look for this by using a caplet?

Thanks for the advice. I will make sure to get a pure white beret and perhaps ankle socks with lace? I will post a red coord later. Would the bolero still look fine over to the top of it, or should I keep looking for a nicer bolero.

What about spiderweb-print tights?
I think you are better to get a bolero with a high collar if you want to cover your neck and arms, or a cape with a high collar for the witch costume aspect rather than a capelet. Blouses may be a bit awkward under this.
Shoes-wise maybe the witch ones from demonia will suit your outfit - they have buckle and lace up ones and also in a purple velvet. If you insist on using the purple I would recommend decorating your hat with purple accessories or a ribbon, and potentially having a purple ribbon on your cape.
If you want to have a bag maybe a small purple velvet pouch would work with the theme and the outfit.
Most of these things I would not normally recommend for a regular, less costume themed lolita outfit but since you're basically asking for a witch lolita costume I think they will work.

In terms of the sheer overskirt - it will look like shit. This is the wrong dress and wrong outfit theme for it.

I'm putting together a witch coord for Halloween, but I'm having a hell of a time finding the right blouse. I really like the two wide-necked blouses, but I'm not sure how I feel about the ruffled sleeves. Which blouse do you think I should pick?

I like this a lot anon. As much as I like the first blouse though, I don't think it's as witchy as the other two. I like the blouse on the right the most personally, the middle one looks just that bit too fussy to me, but perhaps not in a good way - I think it may detract somewhat from the details in the dress/bodice.

honestly anon, the pink in this looks awkward to me. I think you'd be far better scaling it back and and making more of an oldschool sweet type coord with it. If the dress contained both sax and pink and was more chiffony and less heavy looking, you could make this work, but for me, it's just not happening.

If you really like sax and baby pink together anon (I love this combo as well so I get it) I think you'd be far better off using a different dress altogether.

Another note, I realise lighting can change the look of colors quite dramatically but even baring this in mind, it looks like you have a lot of mismatching sax shades here, especially the ring/bangle which looks like more of a cornflower blue color.

The wristcuffs and dress definitely match, having compared them in person, but I see what you mean about the ring. The other bow was just an example, I'd be searching harder for a matching bow.

You're most likely neutral or warm toned. The best way to tell for sure is the vein color test and the gold/silver test.

First look at your veins and determine if they look more blue or green. If they look green, you're warm toned. If they look blue, you're probably cool, maybe neutral. If you're having trouble telling, probably neutral.

Next find some gold and silver jewelry and drape them individually over your skin. If gold looks better, you're warm toned. If silver looks better, you're cool toned. If they both look just as good, it's a good sign you're neutral.

>> No.8524481

>>8524462
Maybe I should add for the record, that I also have brown hair, hazel eyes, with pale skin and I'm somewhere between neutral and warm myself. I think my veins look more blue than green, but sometimes I'm not really sure, and although I look pretty decent in silver and cool tones, warm ones always look best on me. So these tests might not tell you 100%, but they'll definitely give you a good idea.

I think you're over complicating things anon, sorry I should have been clear when I said 'leather brown accessories' I was actually thinking for the shoes and bag. The brown bow and bolero kinda look shoehorned in here and (plus the bow looks like chocolate print?) there's too much of a block of brown towards the top. Also bear in mind that most of your bolero choices won't work or may risk looking awkward and bulky as the sleeves of the OP are very wide.

I think you should really try to keep the look fairly clean, simple and uncomplicated.

The brown shoes you chose are nice but there are little details to consider, for instance if you're introducing gold, ideally you want the shoes to have a gold buckle as well or no metal non-gold buckle at all.

White shoes can also look nice, anons here don't seem to favour that look but I've seen brand models do it and think it looks good. If you do go for white/off-white shoes though, you'd probably be better off using a white bag - then you can do something cute like add a sax or gold charm to bring a bit of balance.

Some options and ideas attached.

I know the shade of the flowers isn't right, but in theory, I think a hat similar to pic related would look amazing. Legwear-wise, I'd be tempted to keep things fairly simple and go for lace tights or something with a simple, complimentary design rather than something heavily patterned. Lace ankle socks could be nice as well.

A themed necklace (that sits above the neckline) picking out a motif from the fabric would be a nice touch. A bracelet featuring pearls perhaps?

Excuse my face, but I am trying to coord a hat I made. I was considering replacing the pink with a more muted dusty pink that matches the dress (or a different color - I am thinking cream?) , but I then realised that the pink matches the lucky pack bag the set came in exactly.
I have a vintage blouse that I plan to dye to match the shoes/fake roses, and I don't know which socks I will wear with this yet. Probably off-white lace tights.
Thoughts? Is the bag too casual to use in the same coord as the hat?
I don't like the bag and dress much together, but I figure that they came in a set so they must look alright...

The colours are not totally off, they just appear to be because they are not pictured together. The hat in the print is dark brown and has red flowers on it identical to the colours on the hat I made. The shoes are the same colour as those red flowers as well. The pink on the underside of the brim matches the lucky pack bag.
I'm not sure where things don't match in colour?
But I can definitely see them not going together..
I thought that taking out the bright pink color in the hat lining and bag would improve it a lot, I would replace that with ivory or "milk tea" fabric that is the same colour as the dress, and then my lace tights and the dark red blouse still.

Okay, I hope this is okay to post.

I have been planning a Christmas-themed coord for a while. There was on garment I was relying on, but it turned out to be out of stock and now I am at a loss of how to continue.

This was the dress I wanted: http://www.qutieland.com/product.php?id=1843

What I want for my coord:

— Christmas themed, but not using cartoony imagery or folklore.

— Colors: Red & Gold, with some white and choice green. I could go with a white & gold garment, but something I could feasibly add the red through accessories.

— To be elegant, capable of both being understated or go OTT with more accessories.

I wanted something that was a JSK and I could dress up, but not from scratch. Something appropriate for a Christmas cantata and a midnight service.

I've gone through the entirety of the Taobao spreedsheet through the Lolita tab, and even tried to crudely search for myself. But, I'm coming up dry. I want something offbrand, or not something heavily sought after by brand purchasers.

Any gulls that may have suggestions?

>> No.8527641

>>8527598
nope. the colors just do not go well enough together in the way that you're trying to express them.

like, the pink in the hat and bag? sure, there's pink in the print, but i don't see that shade prominently enough to warrant that hat or bag. you should go with a brown bag. the hat also just...doesn't go with the dress either. I can't tell if it's dark brown or black, but it looks black to me and therefore doesn't really go with the dress (print looks dark brown, if it's black I think a black hat is just too strong for the dress) I would go with a brown hat or something that matches the main cream/whatever color of the dress. perhaps a straw hat with a light pink ribbon and some roses.

if you want to use red I would definitely accent it with small things like little roses on a hat or your hair, maybe a wrist corsage or something, but please ditch the fug shoes. I would go with brown shoes to match a brown bag.

what you have now just looks very awkward and forced, to put it nicely.

I remember in another thread a while ago you were in the process of making this hat...I can't say I like it, though the roses, pleating, and overall construction seems to look nice - if you want to salvage it I would change the pink to a different shade for sure.

Not pictured is a pair of ivory tights, a lavender and ivory bracelet (One of those lace ones), and several brown bags I have yet to decide from. I also have some pearl bracelets that are Ivory toned like the ones on the dress that I'm considering.

And before anyone mentions anything about the bows on the blouse conflicting with the JSK, I'm thinking about removing them if they don't go under it well.

Ok!
You don't have to "put it nicely", this is cgl after all.
I actually brought the waist ties with me when I bought all of the fabric for the hat (not the lining) so it matches perfectly with the hat on the print (the dark brown and red) but I was definitely questioning the pink. I planned on lightening it originally but then I could not figure out how to, and then when I put it on my head form I noticed that the lining matched the bag so I thought it could work.
So I am definitely changing the lining.

Would it look ok with brown boots and a brown purse?

>> No.8527672

>>8527650
The lining matches the bag but I don't think the bag matches well enough with this colorway of the jsk. I just feel like that pink shade isn't prominent enough in the jsk for it to be a featured color like that.

And yeah I think that would look way nicer and tie the hat in better. You could even put rose clips on your shoes or something.

this is pretty cute. My only suggestion would be perhaps to try a different blouse (white is fine though). Like me, it looks like you have quite broad shoulders and puff sleeves only emphasise this. I would recommend going for a lighter, more chiffony type blouse without the puff sleeves.

I think you'd be better off with a longer pendant as it just seems a bit awkwardly placed as it is, would be better sitting lower down on the bodice area.

As it stands, I think the hair bow looks a bit kinda just plonked on. If you're going to wear it on the side like that, I actually think a cute updo / curly side ponytail (like pic related) would look more flattering with it.

I'm not sure if you've thought much about make-up for your coord, but in my opinion, a rosy cheek color (taking the tone form the apples in the print) would look great.

Pare down your accent colors: having red, white, gold, and black makes it hard to balance. Also, choose a style, because your bottom half is classic and your top half is sweet. If you want to make it more classic, nix the wristcuffs and add in more black, with ivory instead of white, to match the skulls.
Recommendation from a linebacker-chan is to use a less puffy blouse, unless you want to accentuate and broaden those shoulders. Imo, chiffon blouses are pretty witchy (matches the dress) and tend to look more mature, which would, again, match your bottom half.
If you really want to take this sweet, I would focus more on the apples than on the star on the book; in this case, use a red bag, red or black shoes, and keep the white, .
This dress is surprisingly versatile, which makes a cohesive coord harder.
This is just my opinion, though, and I wear mostly classic, so I'm biased.
