There is an Alannah hill store near where I used to go to school and when I was first getting into lolita I fawned over all of it. It's still really cute, it just doesn't feel as special now that I know her designs aren't necessarily original.

I have a question regarding shoes:
I injured my back doing gymnastics for several years and now I cannot wear very flat shoes or shoes with heels without feeling lower back pain. I mean, I can wear them for a while (e.g., lolita meetup) and deal with the discomfort until I get home.
But since I wear otome most days to go to work, I really need to find comfortable shoes that I can wear regularly.
Do you think there is a way to incorporate certain types of sports shoes without the outfit becoming notome?
If not, have you found otome-compatible shoes that offer good support?

This thread is amazing, I work in a museum so I tend to gravitate towards quirky yet still work appropriate clothing and while lolita is nice, otome feels more so my ideal for work/casual settings. I bought pic related a while ago and already have coorded it lolita and got a lot of great advice however, I really want to stretch my wardrobe and hope this could work for otome. I think the main things are to not only be less poofy and casual but to have more patterns that dont necessarily clash but would be bad in lolita. Patterns seem to be very important and prints are all over mostly not just on the bottom of the skirt. Also, poof isnt necessary, and pants work. The head accessories are way more tame than lolita. I mostly see wool or straw hats with simple decoration like ribbons and embroidery. Lolita seem to hate cardigans with bare legs, but it's super popular with otome.

I'd also avoid a lot of lolita blouses that arent very simple. They seem too ott for otome.

Yes, as long as it's coordinated properly, length isn't really an issue. ETC and MILK will often have short dresses, plus all the brands release skirts that hit mid thigh.

I have these and they're pretty cute. Look sort of like a cross between a mary jane and a ballet shoe. Haven't worn them more than one mile at a time, though, but they were pretty alright. Got them from boscovs on the discount rack for like ten bucks. I like the squared or rounded toes more than pointed or slanted for comfort. It's not healthy to jam your toes into a tight toebox.

How do you tell a good clash from a bad clash in Otome? I'm getting into it after spending years in Lolita (not leaving, just branching out), so I'm very careful about being matchy matchy in case I look bad.

Petticoats are not essential in otome because the silhouette isn't the foundation of the look, but they can be used to help push an otherwise borderline normalfag outfit into girlier territory. Poof should be conservative though, which isn't generally hard to do in otome since most appropriate skirts tend to not be as full as your average lolita skirt. Basically, just don't walk in looking like a UFO.

I don't think either of those dresses is quite right for otome. The prints themselves could maybe work, but they're a little lacking in stylistic details like cute buttons and collars. They also don't have room for a blouse.

You could still coord them in an otome inspired way of course, I just think it'd be difficult to get it to look 100% otome.

I think if you got a peter pan collar accessory to wear with these it would help them look more otome. A cute, slim belt would also look nice with them IMO. They can look otome, you'll just have to accessorize them right.

the way you coord this can totally be otome in my opinion as long as they aren't extremely short. maybe don't use a normie purse and go for the typical stiff heart shape or fake book purse. make sure to have interesting leg wear, too.

And what are the thoughts on semi-replicas in otome? Because I bought a dress from aliexpress that I saw posted here and it's not the same color scheme or the same cut of dress but I just realized it's undoubtedly the same print as an ETC dress but without the branding.

there are some from f-troupe on shoescribe, but for some reason the price is $40 when sending to Australia! Not including shipping, and this is in USD. The listing is actually more on the 'international' site. With the exchange rate like it is, I can't afford it.
So basically, w2c multistrap maryjanes or boots. Most strappy boots are really chunky or have a t-strap thing down the middle.
