8472175 No.8472175 [Reply] [Original]

we haven't had a petti thread in a while.
recommendations? tips? sewing tutorials? reviews? has cp improved their recent stock at all?

>> No.8472317

Don't ever buy Closetchild's Gorgeous Petticoats. I regret it cause it was so good the first few months then when it hit the 4th or 5th month, it started to deflate so easily even when I fluffed it and put hairspray to keep it stiff enough to hold my dresses. It still barely gets the job done and I have to layer it with two other petticoats which has caused me to get scars due to having the elastics cutting my skin even tho they all fit me pretty loose to be comfy.

Bunny house has some good petticoats from seeing in reviews and all. I am actually going to order one to test it out.

Also CP has still cheaped out on their quality right now and not the best as it used to be

Same here.
Anyone have any remedies to prevent this or at least make it a little better?

>> No.8472335

>>8472175
Don't be cheap, get chiffon. Anything else deflates and you'll spend more in the long run buying another one and be uncomfortable layering them. It costs almost as much to make a decent one as to buy one. 40-yard+ petticoats are good. Malco Modes with the 'fix' is best and never deflates evrn if packed or stored in a drawer.

>> No.8472340

>>8472335
The fix? I remember a few years back hearing that people used to alter the MM petti, but I never really heard how. Any pettis I've seen from them seem to be a fairly standard rockabilly/retro shape unsuited to Lolita, what's the fix that makes it usable?

>> No.8472344

>>8472340
You just tuck up the top layer on the 582 to make the poof more cupcake shaped. Really, I'm surprised so many people go through so much regarding petticoats because they won't just spend a bit more on a decent one in the first place.

I can certainly recommend BH. I got the "medium" sized petticoat and it's poofy enough for my tastes. I only have dresses that are made of light fabrics (chiffon, cotton, etc.) so if you're wanting something for a heavier dress like a velveteen one, you'd be better off getting a "large" or "super large". The waistband is comfy and overall I'm really happy with it, especially for the super low price of $30 shipped to the US. I'm sure you'll be happy with it!

>> No.8472549

I have all intentions of buying a Bunny House petticoat before September. But, for now I'll make do with my F+F cage petti. And by that I mean I love it, because it won't deflate. 8)

>> No.8472555

>>8472545
I will get the large or super large then!
I love that huge cupcake look in dresses and most of my dresses are cotton/chiffon so they aren't super heavy to push my current CC gorgous petti down, it just sucks so much.

Do you think you can put up a pic here to show how poofy the medium one is? I am curious to see how it looks under a dress.

Go for it! Also I don't have any worn pictures on me, but here's a picture I just took if it standing on my bed, at least for some reference. I'm a fatty-chan so that's why the waistband is big. Honestly when I wear it, the elastic doesn't stretch that much. She made it so that someone much bigger than me could wear it too in case I ever sell it haha. The stock photo they have of the petticoat on a mannequin is pretty accurate to how it'll look under a lightweight dress.

Nice thanks you two! I am gonna get the large and super large then!

I like being a huge poof since I am slightly a fatty-chan and having the skirt more poofy makes me feel like it hides that I am a bit chubby. Good to know that the elastics don't move around since that's my problem with most petticoats.

Also has anybody actually bought an AP petticoat? I never seen it in action or seen reviews for it at all.

Uh, sorry? Also I don't need to wash it yet, it's not gross or dirty or anything. I reviewed it based on my experience. Again, I don't wear lolita very frequently.
The petticoat is shiny because the material is slightly shiny. It's organza. That's what organza does. See attached picture. It's wrinkly because it's trying to stand on itself, and also it's been in storage. I don't hang my petticoats because it deflates them faster in my experience, so I ball them out and store them in a box in my closet.

Ok, I'm back, I've hanged it on the line, and everything looks fine. The petticoat is CP's daily petti in white.
Previously, I've washed my petticoats by hand, so I'm impressed really. I gave all my other formal gowns a once over and there's no damage to them either, so I guess it's ok.

It's been stored in various ways due to moving to my parent's home between house moves including in a drawer, but mainly on an open shelf or on a hanger in the closet. Scrunching up is actually a really effective way of bring life back into a petti in my experience..
To each their own, in my opinion nobody is going to (and nobody should be) looking at your petticoat to know the difference. It's only the swirly fabric texture you see when looking from below, which obviously makes ironing it out redundant.

A steamer could be a good way to clean it! I always hand-wash mine, and from today, gave it a whirl in the washing machine.

The only thing I worry about is the heat from the steam making the synthetic fibres get limper (P.S. I'm not a scientist this is just a worst case scenario), and thus deflating. I always washed my pettis with cold water and clothes detergent, and it goes back to normal. But honestly, the wrinkles always come out after I wash and hang dry upside down. I feel that maybe the weight of the water pulls the fabric down and out.

>> No.8473042

>>8472992
No experience buying from them, but the petticoats are awesome. I received mine new last year and it has not deflated at all. Very poofy. Very good.

>> No.8473045

>>8473016
Hangers tend to be bad for storing petticoats, since gravity is effecting it more and pulling it down so to say. It'd be better if you folded it up and stored it in a drawer or box. If you really need to be able to hang it, then make sure you flip it inside out and hang it upside down. This takes up a fair amount of space though, so I feel that folding it up is a better method.
The heavier fabrics may be a reason why it's deflating quickly too, since it's, again, more pressure. Starching it would be a good option though! I haven't heard of bad things happening with organza and starching so I'd try it out and then see how it poofs from there.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I was hanging it upside down. I've owned a fair number of other "budget" pettis (victoriangirldress, classical puppets, melikestea, non brand square dancing ones) and I think the time period for deflation is fairly typical but the amount is just more noticeable because it started so poofy and ended up so average

>> No.8473184

>>8472329

Option A: wear a corset or waist cincher. No reduction, all it does is provide a wall so the elastic isn't pressing on your flesh.

Option B: replace the elastic with ribbon. Rip a few of the sitches on the waistband, cut and remove the elastic, thread ribbon into the casing instead. If you're not handy with sewing, have a seamstress do this for you instead.
