They are screen lenses and it varies with your own vision and how dense the screen is and what color. Greyish or colored ones with larger screening are easier than milky or brighter white ones with denser screening. You won't see well enough to drive or read normal print in a book. The truth is that until someone can pull together a coord with the basic silhouette and pieces we all commonly recognize, then they are not yet ready for lolita. There ARE allowances made for budget but unfortunately it might still be too expensive for some. That's just how it is.

Otoh, second-hand Bodyline or used plain brand dresses and the cheapest TaoBao are on a par with all but the very rock bottom of normalfag clothing prices too so there is that. This is a case of 'not everything can be lolita'. Loliables used to be a little more acceptable when real lolita goods were almost all really expensive, very hard to get or both (ancient history!)
But with that not being the case anymore, the bar has been raised and most of us just aren't going to accept this level of lolifying.

I agree they look best and most elegant in fashions designed to go with them but I can't fault the girls and women who wear them (and modesty pants) with lolita either as long as they also follow the basic lolita rules.

Until Vatican II, Catholic women were required to wear hats or some head-covering in church as well and not everyone looks good in or can successfully style hats. Sometimes it's just a thing and you compromise as best you can. I can't complain, I inherited a ton of great hats.

Veils can be styled to look good with lolita, but the girls wearing them with the fashion would need to learn how to do gamboo3a or khaliji style or something similar so they have more volume and give the proper silhouette; maybe throw in some hijab pins or other jewelry if they can't do normal lolita accessories. Usually the scarves flatten the top of their heads too much or look too plain since they can't wear hair clips, but there's ways to remedy that.

Modesty in Islam is a different concept from the western idea of modesty. I'm not sure I can explain it without directly quoting the Qur'an, but basically it has nothing to do with "not being slutty". Sluttiness has to do with one's own presentation of themselves. Women in Islam aren't told to cover up because they were presenting themselves as objects, but rather to cover up so that they weren't objectified or perceived incorrectly by others.

Islam places importance on who you are as a person; your skills and intelligence. By dressing hijab, you aren't to be oggled or sexualized. Modesty applies to both genders, and is more than just how you dress, but also how you carry yourself.

Wearing the veil also shows others that you're of loyal to your faith and the ideals it presents like humility, charity, and morality.

Whether or not it shouldn't be attention grabby depends on how you follow the faith. There's the Qur'an, and the Hadith, which is basically an addendum, but a lot of it is silly and contradicts the Qur'an. Much of the more specific rules about hijab, like wearing thick, loose-fitting clothing that isn't overly flashy, comes from the Hadith, not the Qur'an. Many Muslims who got their faith passed down to them by their parents might be stricter in how they dress because they follow the faith as they were taught, but a someone who has a more liberal and modernized view of the religion or anyone who had to read through the Hadith and see how fucking ridiculous it is might choose to reject it.

There's a line specifically about the "camel hump" hijab which basically says any woman who wears it is cursed, and there are lines about not showing anything that adds emphasis to your natural beauty (so makeup would be forbidden as well). Its still incredibly common in gulf countries, which are known for being garish (see: Dubai), plus Turkey and Syria.

Its less about the sect and more about how they follow the religion and how strictly they adhere to the Hadith. There's a million ways to practice Islam since its so widespread.
