Maybe it's the lightning and my personal taste, but I'd darken the reds, particularly on the lips. Maybe thicken the lines on your cheekbones, as well as a bit more defined contouring. Or you already do that and its just hard to tell because of the yellow light.

I don't think people should try to shoehorn shiro nuri into lolita fashion (and frankly most people do not) but quite a few people wear lolita pieces in their shiro nuri styling. Haha, there is a pretty French shironuri who wears some lolita pieces and some Lolitas were posting her and squawking 'awk, awk, not lolita' until someone told them to chill, the girl doesn't tag 'lolita' in her shironuri coords and she knows how to do very good lolita with normal makeup, see? I think shironuri is still in the early stages of popularity because it's seen as more 'artistic' than 'fashion' so it's not like you can go out and buy an outfit off the rack to go with your paint. I know that's what intimidated me at first and still does because even though I get the essence of shironuri right (good facepaint base) I can't help but feel the need to live up to expectations of what a shironuri looks like going off of popular examples.

In essence shironuri is just white face paint. We've seen street snaps of people wearing shironuri with just casual school uniforms or whatever, but I can of feel like if I do that then I'm like.. shironuri ita. I feel like I have to make some kind of complex face design and some grand outfit to match because that seems to be the dominating theme in shironuri going by the 'big names' in it.

I mean, everyone has to start somewhere but you kind of feel like if you do, you're automatically going to be seen as shit even if your paint is good because you don't have a theme or big hairpieces or elaborate outfit. I mean even the total shit patchy paint shironuri-wannabes on tumblr have better looking outfits and stuff than me.

I dunno... just does hell on your self-confidence. It's a sucky feeling to want to retire from something before you even got started because you think you can't live up to expectations.

I am coming from the other side. I started from the fashon end and have one complete CPK outfit and 2 wigs I like but I'm struggling to get an even and stable white coating and just starting to experiment with makeup designs I might like on top. So bit of opposites but much the same feeling. I want my makeup style to be distinctive and not derivative of any current shironuri too. But I know it's going to take time to develop that too.

I totally agree, it's hard. Problem is is that curently "popular" shironuri is either the fantasy with the fake ears and noses or the Minori look. I personally wish that people expanded more out into different looks. As for not going out to buy an outfit off a rack - that's what I love about it. There are so many ways you can do it and experiment with it. I believe if you go out in casual school uniforms and shironuri, that that looks fine. I think as it's much smaller, it so far is not as bitchy as the lolita comm (I am also a Lolita as well as a lover of Shironuri), I honestly don't think a more casual will be crap.

In older threads here there have been posted lots of simple coords. The fact that they have been posted many times, says to me that people enjoy seeing it!
Minori is just very populair and a lot of people I talked to, didn't even know there were other ways of shironuri besides Minori's. So this can also be one of the reasons.

I think it's hard to focus on a 'distinctive never seen before' make-up. when I first starting practicing I did the stupid minori noob look. It looked like shit and after couple of tries I just tried to make it look good.

Fashion has always kind of felt like a costume to me, a performance of sorts. I can't pinpoint why but I think it partially has to do with the fact I can never settle for one style, as well as not having spoons to dress nicely on a day to day basis which means that I don't really have the closet to work any one style. More importantly, though, I find that dressing a certain way (be it goth, lolita, punk, any type of -kei) that isn't normalfag mode (nice jeans + t-shirt/dress shirt + one or two accessories) affects how I carry and view myself as a person. It makes me feel deattached from myself and contributes to this feeling of "otherness" to my own person. So when I "dress up" I am very aware of it, even if it's just a nice suit or something.
That's why I like Shironuri, because it is kinda supposed to be deattached from myself. I don't have to worry about losing myself in some weird persona my brain makes up because once I wash off the make up that persona is gone. It also means I can try on a variety of different fashions without feeling like a poser because let's be real, no one wear this on a day to day basis. It IS a costume, so it feels much more natural to me, if that makes sense? And since it is the face itself which matter, I don't really get hooked up on if my outfit is detailed enough which leads to more room to experiment with simple vs. overly intricate.

That anon you're replying to and this so hard. More than half of what I see on the tumblr tag is based on Minori one way or another whether it's paint or outfit. Minori's style definitely isn't mine but I'm no where near as skilled as no.96 either, who is more the look I'm going for blending scary with cool. The pic in my >>8442885 post is actually the very first shironuri I ever saw years ago and I didn't even know it was a thing until this year when Minori pretty much brought it into the spotlight. It's just the total lack of looks like that that also contribute because you do really get the mindset that "Well.. everyone else does this style.." so if you try something totally opposite it does feel like you're messing up or something. I know a lot of people won't feel that way but I am pretty self-concious about trying new fashions. I tried lolita and to date only have one coord that took months to get together because of that heavy "I can't fuck this up even on the first try" feeling.
I can't waste all the products I bought though. Maybe the outfit/theme I started out on may not be the right one for me but I'll keep at it until I find something that clicks. I only go to two conventions a year. I've got plenty of time.

I'm not hung up on developing a 'super unique' makeup, at this point I'll be happy if I can achieve something I can replicate that is not just 'a copycat version of shironuri X'
I moved my makeup around in early summer and seem to have cleverly hidden the tub of white greasepaint and barrier spray, go me. I liked that kind of heavy white as a base when I did some Dia de Los Muertos makeup for Halloween using Stargazer white pressed powder because it's fine and bright white. Baby powder looked cakey on me and I haven't tried another white or translucent setting powder yet.
For color in those looks, I use the Makeup Forever Flash Palette colors (grease paint) set with well-pigmented powder eye shadows in corresponding colors (mostly Sugarpill and Urban Decay were most vivid). Patting grease color on with a flat synthetic brush did not disturb the white but trying to draw finer details with a liner brush looked thick and smeary.

For someone who was asking about airbrushed white base, a YouTube makeup artist named Goldistarling used it for her white base in one of her Halloween videos but I think she ended up adding something over to either increase opacity or powder it or something. When I find it, I will link. I think it was a MAC Pro airbrush makeup but not Face and Body white.

The coord looks so elegant that I think both eye designs don't really suit it (for your uncovered eye). To me the whole coord seems to have the theme of a 'demon in disguise' because of the soft colors mixed in with blacks and the horns partially concealed behind roses and one eye covered, hiding what's lurking beneath it.

My suggestion would be to do rather soft and pretty looking makeup for the uncovered eye and then, if you want to go that far, get a different colored contact for the covered eye and do darker and more demonic designs for the covered eye. The black tears design could work well for it, especially if you got a white-out contact for that eye.

Really excited to see your coord, with or without the makeup.

Just that shironuri =/= lolita, so there is not really ita.
Shironuri is more open mind, and anything can go in it, and the bad make up is just the result of poor common sense about basic makeup.
As long as you have a good white background is enough. Have a message or not, just be a creature.
Shironuri also doesn't have to be only Japanese, it can have other roots, as clown make up, which is not necessarily bad. Just look at French shironuri or circus.
Call it jfashion if you want, but if you really want to be original and fret, you should look outside the box, look at shironuri as a whole culture

Real talk, thank you for that reminder. Sometimes I get carried away, and I just put everything I like in, even if it doesn't 100% make sense.

As for the top half I'm still somewhat clueless. I was thinking a white shirt (with one large star on each of the sleeves) with a large blue scarf and a few accessories. But I'm not sure if that would look bad or not.

I look at CPK and Dolly kei for ideas. Also some historical costuming and lately, Strega. I want to do both a black and a white outfit that I can interchange pieces on. Kind of a fairytale, fairy, witch idea that I started with then looked up elements from the above styles. Another idea I have is from some grey lenses, they remind me of elvish looking eyes so I thought of a grey, faded costume, maybe with a cloak. These kinds of ideas are much more whimsical than regular fashion but also a bit more costume-like so not quite as wearable for everyday.

If it is supposed to be used with water, it likely is not going to give you good coverage and stay on in a thick opaque layer, those are often just used for things like child's facepainting at a faire or such unless they are alcohol based type professional products and require that to wet it. Get oil based or 'greasepaint' for your base, pat it on with dry sponge, tapping, often it takes 2 coats to get it even, then powder with white powder or a white powder foundation.
Mitsuyoshi, Kryolan, BenNye, Graftobian Makeup Forever, they all make the grease types, I know Kryolan is International.
Otherwise, you could always contact the customer service at the makeup company and ask them, showing them a photo. But it really doesn't sound like the correct kind at all.

Let us know what you find out, I am interested because it is such a narrow range of recommended products that work, it is helpful to know why as well. Maybe they can also recommend another product in their line for your purposes. This sounds like old fashioned pancake makeup, only in white. It can provide great coverage, but I recommend using a natural sponge for blending, and not one of the beauty blender types. Natural always worked better for me on this. Use as little water as possible unless you want very sheer coverage. Apply and blend with a sort of patting motion.
The biggest problem you're going to have with pancake is that because it's water based, it sweats off pretty easily. Great for photos and it was originally developed to be used for hollywood movies back in the day. But if you're looking for a makeup that you can wear all day at a con or a meet, then you're going to want greasepaint.

I love those horns, wonderful, perfect, i lpve them and ypu for choosing them.

The make-up looks okay, it's not really impressive maybe because it's just a drawing, probably in a real face it might look gorgeous.

But i really love those kind of eyebrows, they're wonderful, so be creative when cutting the bangs of that wig which i would choose in light-brown if it was possible -i'm not familiarized with wigs. Sorry-

I would pick the shawl instead of the kimono top so the print of the dress keeps being important, the kimono top would saturate the colour of the snake and if you closed it the dress would have been better in cream or with another kind of print/design /picture.

I would also pick the shoes in brown instead of black unless you want to match the nails with them, if that's the case then i would pick the same platforms without the shoelaces.

These are just some nitpicks, i hope it helps and correct me if there's anything wrong or if i have misinterpreted your idea.

Sorry, i forgot that autumn gets a tad cold.

I'm not sure if the cardigan it's long enough, since the dress is long i would pick something also like that so the figure doesn't gets cut and also the print isn't butchered.

Maybe a long coat with Mori influence, something that feels more natural, if the kimono top was longer and in an intense colour like red wine or cherry, it would be better.

Actually guest of honour might be a super loose term. She was one of the guests and one I think most people were excited about.
