Does anyone have reviews or any comments on FromJapan's surface mail option? I got a little carried away with my order, it started out as a few small collectibles and then I kept finding a bunch of cheap plushies and kept going. I'm estimating that my order will be around 4-5kg, and even with the yen so low, I'm not too happy about 7k yen for EMS alone.
I'm mostly worried about their packaging, I've read some stuff that have mentioned how FJ has a tendency to overpack and it bumps up the cost of shipping needlessly. Wondering if that varies with packing option and because surface mail is so cheap, they'll purposefully make the packaging really inconvenient just to charge as much as possible.
Not even sure if pic related it all of it.

I feel like that Gloomy Bear lot is what's gonna screw me over, I have one and it's kind of small but packs a ton of weight in the head. I regret the Gloomy Bears, but for only 5usd it felt good at the time.

Never used surface mail, but FJ is my go-to shopping service and I can vouch for the fact that their minimal/lightweight packing option is worth the small extra fee; this past order I got a dress, two cardigans, two skirts, a video game, some tights and a couple of pokemon cards. Total size of the box it arrived in? Only 30x14x22cm, about the size of a shoebox. everything was folded up neatly and packed in there really tightly/securely, I was almost sure something had to be missing from my order when I saw how small it was. Needless to say, I was impressed, will be choosing the same option for my next order in a few days.

(You don't see much about it beforehand, but when you go to add the shipping instructions, it'll give you the choice between lightweight, normal or extra-secure packing options, and you can select it then)

I bought the JSK a couple of months ago so I don't know if they've changed the way they make them or not but I'll give you my two cents too. It's a nice design but unfortunately the material is kind of thin and I found the dress to be kind of short on me. It also does this really weird thing where no matter what shaped petticoat I put under it, you can see part of the lining. That may be more of an issue with the ivory color rather than the darker colors but it still kind of annoys me. It's not a super high quality dress but that's to be expected because it is pretty cheap.

I really love that idea! I'm planning on taking the dress to a repair shop that specializes in vintage and bridal pieces to see if they can stitch it shut.
