Help seagulls I know you guys know about traditional Japanese wear.

I have a yukata I want to wear to a festival, but I don't have an obi. I'm thinking pre-tied because I am garbage in it's purest form. What stores online do you recommend? Also would it be horrible to wear geta without socks? And possible good places to buy geta with a little style? I don't wanna look dumpy.

Also general traditional clothing thread. Questions and answers here.

You can find pre-tied obi on taobao pretty easily. Check some of the links in the OP of the taobao thread.

Also, check eBay. You can get cute yukata obi for pretty cheap. There are even some pre-tied ones, though I opted for the long version.

You can make socks for geta easily by wearing the sock inside out and marking the dip between your big and small toe with chalk, then sew along that line and cut down the middle of that space.

Speaking of yukatas, do they ever come in two pieces (like, if they did do they have another name)? Or is the line I see in them under the belt a fold or something? I mean like in this pic.

Inb4 judgement for posting Sonico. I like Sonico, and this would be an easy costume to knock together. I just want find out if it is two pieces or not so I get it right when I make it.

>> No.8431531

>>8431510
It's one piece. That "line" under the belt is the yukata folded. When you wear the yukata, you are supposed to tie a thin belt then pull up the yukata and fold it over that tie. You do this because usually the yukata is too long and needs to be shortened. Then you put on the obi over that folded area to keep everything neat and in place.

Okay, thank you. I'm fairly tall, so it means probably lengthening a pattern and/or cheating because that sounds more complicated.

The summery wooden geta worn with yukata don't require socks, but do get a pretty pedicure, please. Tie the yukata together with at least 2 himo, an obi (pre-tied or not) does NOT hold it closed correctly. Google kitsuke for yukata so you can learn how things go together. Required stuff all available on eBay. Practice a couple of times before you wear it out. Don't forget a fan and little bag and cute hairstyle.

OP said she has a yukata. Hakama are worn with kimono and more dressy shoes (or boots) and accessories. It's both more difficult and usually more expensive to do this look.

>>8431220
Yes you can wear the natural wooden geta without socks with a yukata. You will need 1-2 koshi himo to hold the yukata closed, an obi, and I recommend an obi cord (obijime) . There are tutorials online on 'how to wear yukata' so you can learn and practice.

Does anyone have good links to shops that sell full sets that aren't completely ass ugly?
I've tried looking on rakuten but I'm frustrated because all of the nicer ones are rental only for like 4-5 days and the fuckers want close to $300 for the chore.

Dear everyone ITT.

Please don't buy 'vintage' shit yukata or kimono from like yamatoku or ebay or whatever, you will look like an old hag. Even fucking old hags don't wear that shit.

All the girls in OP(including the dead one) are wearing ugly as hell yukata. Don't be a greasy dumb weeb about it. Get the good stuff.

The girls in OP are wearing either crappy ebay weeby kimono(the hiragana one is especially bad) or ones for older women.
