All the time. Someone cosplayed the Rogue of Mind to Fanime (no pics because it was a 13 yr old's unsealed paint and mediocre sewing) and it looked like a Nepeta recolor.

That's good to know, i don't think i've ever used snazz other than having it tested on skin for a friends project. If i remember right it felt pretty airy.

I'm interested in their pearl colours, though i don't think i've ever used any good pearlescent aqua paints.

Cotton sateen with a subtle shine. IMO it looks best with a high waist, regardless of what outfit she's wearing it with (even though she doesn't have her shirt tucked in for most of her meteor appearances). I like a slim cut with a flare at the bottom; not too fond of the wide A-lines that occasionally show up (even less fond if they're coupled with a petticoat, for some bizarre reason).

Speciesswap Dirk from past thread here. I decided to take some time to actually style individual spikes and it looks... Better. I don't really like the front view right now but I think it'll look better on an actual person and anyway I'm not sure what I can do about it. Hopefully all the spikes stay put even if I need to transport it.

Hopefully it will keep it's shape even after I've stuffed it down a ziplock bag for con transportation... I would transport it in my box like I do my Cronus wig but the horns are way big for that so I'll still have to re- and deattach them. Not really worth it.
I'll update my tee, finish cal and after that I'll try and have a photoshoot before con so I have at least some photos where it's looking good lmao.

In a 5-gallon cardboard box (volume is an estimate because the box originally had 2 2.5-gal of water in it), with the wig head taped down at its base.

I go to all my cons by train and commuting so my ability to bring lots of packing is kinda limited. Like I said I used an ikea box to transport my Cronus wig, wig head and mounted horns and all, but seeing as I'd still have to demount the horns and already have one large suitcase + a bag I need to carry by hand I wonder if there's some more compressed way of stuffing it in my bag without fucking it up? Clam your tits, you can transport heavily styled wigs in a ziplock as long as the spikes are more permanently locked into place (ie with glue or got2b). I just transported multiple wigs to the last con I went to via plane like this.

How permanent are the spikes? If you haven't added it already, a little tacky glue on the tips will do wonders in terms of keeping the style through transport. Sticking it on a wighead, covering it in a net, and then carrying it in a backpack or plastic bag is ideal. But if you have to, you can pack it flat with a net and a bag. Just try to pack it somewhere where there will be as little friction as possible on the hair.

Could you possibly fit it in a smaller box if you hacked all the nonessential parts of the wig head off? I use a large hatbox to transport styled wigs sometimes, and had to cut the neck off one of my wig heads to make room for the height of the wig.

My experience with glued has been pretty meh-level to downright bad, so I don't use it when styling anymore (I've had to wash it out of wigs to restyle them before and the glued just fucks that over and weighs the wigs down). I'll definitely look into gluing the tips, though. I might also give it a spritz of glued but we'll see. I might be able to fit it in my backpack, though, if I remove the horns, so I'll keep that in mind!
The IKEA box I have is pretty perfect in size for a heavily styled wig + wig head + medium sized horns/accessories, it's just that I can't really bring another bag (like I mentioned).

It's the tall cylindrical type that zips shut around the middle, and there's a short peg on the bottom of the box that you can put a wig head on. I visit thrift stores and antique shops a lot and every now and then you can find one for sale. It's too large to be an airline carry-on, but I carpool to a lot of my conventions and it's great for keeping my friends' luggage from crushing my wigs when everything gets tossed around in the back of the car.

Yeah don't caulk the whole spike or anything like that. I normally just dab a dot of tacky glue onto the tip and then run my fingers over it a few times to bring everything to a nice spike. It works well for me but stay away if you want a more natural look.

I'm always going to have a special fondness for Homestuck but after that shit with John traveling everywhere leading to a complete retcon and now a bunch of filler convos according friends still reading it, I'm done. I just want Hussie to get to the point for once, not constantly doing this shit where he dances around not getting anywhere in the story and then POOF not the real timeline all along!

It seriously hit its peak in 2012 and I'm kind of mad I stuck with it since fucking 2009 and put so much time into it only for it to end up the way it is. But I still like a lot of the fanwork generated, especially how people translate the designs into more detailed real-world outfits.

I actually wasn't following the comic for about six months or so and was only barely following the cosplay scene (ie I follow two BNFs and come make tagdumps in here occasionally), but a few days ago I decided to catch up to the comic's current point. Previously I'd reached Caliborn's stop-motion vines and went 'fuck it I can't read any more narration from this asshole.'

After catching up (and re-reading some portions about the time bullshit), I think I'm back into enjoying Homestuck again. Hussie's multiple timelines and universes and retcons are kind of eyeroll-y and Caliborn's dialogue is a fucking headache to read, but I think the comic's definitely heading towards its endgame (FINALLY), since John's finished his hero quest on LoWaS, the survivors are gearing up for their respective final battles, and the storyline hit possibly its biggest nadir during the Condesce-Aranea showdown where everyone died and all hope seemed lost.

To be honest I think Homestuck is currently better than it has been in a while. John and Roxy finishing their quests really sold me back on the comic but I agree Hussie haven't been handling it as good as he could've as of late. I think he's scared that it'll be over, and for good reason. Like, you spend six years of your life on this magnum opus it's only natural to be scared about what happens when it is over.

What con was this at?
I kind of entered the fandom while Homestuck was at it's peak (in our country that meant >100 ppl photoshoot at the largest con) and though it isn't as big as it used to be (or more importantly; I find it to be more cynical) I still love the fandom dearly. I think I'll kind of end up like those people who still are way into old mecha animes a quarter century later haha.
It's a bit sad, though. We were holding on a lot to the hopes that after we came back from hiatus the fandom would pick back up and while the fandom is at least alive, the cosplay community... not so much.

saccharineSylph- her cosplays are so pretty and clean but im a little worried shes leaving the fandom. her cosplay tag is a bit cluttered but otherwise i like her blog.
imploder- not the most amazing but his cosplays are pretty solid and has good output.
chairman-miaow & kidbunni- the prop thread we had a bit back got me thinking we need some propmakers on the list. chairman-miaow's cosplays seem solid props non-withstanding. kidbunni only cosplays dave still, but his props are so detailed and clean and i really dig his wip's. both have easy to navigate blogs.
captaincrunch- eh, her cosplays are alright overall but she could really make better troll horns....

Prop-tier would be cool but it's also a tough call. A lot of the BNFs are skilled with props AND craftsmanship, whereas a cosplayer like kidbunni is probably the best prop maker we have in this fandom but his cosplays are below average otherwise and he makes a lot of rookie mistakes. Some of the best Dave props, but not quite enough variety in character yet. Have they done multiple Dave outfits or is it always the Alpha Dave shirt with different props? Also, the main draw/entire point of barstuck is to meet Homestucks older than 21. Even though it's one of the only ways you can restrict a meetup by age, it still isn't effective, e.g. so many underage kids drinking at barstuck at katsu.

I tend to stick to the older groups at meetups. As I said though, 99% of the local community is really good and well-behaved. They're sweet, they help pick up the park and played with the local kids. One of our Kanayas helped a kid on the monkey bars and a Vriska helped out on the swings. But one bad egg is one really bad egg!

Holy shit, I honestly never really realized how many horrible young homestucks there are. I'm 15, and yeah, I'll admit, at my first few meetups/cons I was probably super obnoxious but I like to think I've toned it down? I found a group of hs friends at my first con and I'm one of the only one who's still in high school and they all seem to like me, the oldest one is 23 and she calls me one of her best friends so I dunno, maybe the fact that I'm young just doesn't phase them or maybe I'm just more mature than the homestucks my age. Either way, the amount of immaturity among homestucks around my age is literally ridiculous. Around my area, the younger ones seem a lot more chill and welcomed by the older crowd than in a lot of other areas.

There are lots of mature fifteen year olds, that's not what it's about. I know a ton of people younger than me who're great friends, but fact is that no matter which there will always be at least four years between you and me. Those four years aren't just *years* either, as they may be when you're in your thirties, fourties, fifties etc. Those are four years of significant experiences and developments into adulthood. Of course, I'm not really what one might consider an adult yet either (I still live at home and whatnot) but there IS a definite set of steps between your mid teens and you early twenties that's about so much more than just maturity. You're almost guaranteed to be in different positions in your life and like anon above said, some people REALLY aren't interested in whatever biz you might have with your high school english teacher.

Very well put. Up until very recently, I've always had to hang out with Homestucks 3-4 years younger than me. I always knew that I'd probably enjoy people my own age (post-college) or older, but I never had the opportunity. I didn't realize just how different it would be until I actually had that chance to be in a group with people my age. Everything was just better. There's no other way to describe it other than "people just acted like adults." Everyone was on relatively the same level of experiences. People had full time jobs, were done with school, able to pay for their own shit, were actually reliable, etc.

I have no problems hanging out with people younger than me, but being with people my age is something I truly missed.

This is really well described. Older people just have different points of experience and reference. A group of adults when taking about what sucks will probably talk about jobs, rent, economy. (I say this as someone who was in a car full of people in cosplay cooing over the houses we were driving by and wondering what the real estate was.) This is probably boring as shit to teenagers the same way listening to bullshit about highschool is for twenty-somethings. It's just different frames of reference, nothing about who they are as people. I have lots of young friends, but it's awkward to hang out with them when their biggest problem is prom and mine is corporate policy crackdowns.
