Can someone explain to me what is the draw of sports anime is? Like I've watched at least one season of KnB, Free, HQ, and Yowapeda.. but I just can't get /into/ it. I mean I think its fun and I like the characters but it all seems to just fall into the same pattern of "GOTTA WIN THE INTER-HIGH", some bs supernatural sports talent, one cheerleader girl, and ~male/teamwork bonding~.

I like the characters and the personalities. I used to like Kuroko no Basketball but the powers went out of hand, the main character wasn't even a focus at one point, and it reminded me of a typical battle shonen. I know it's a JUMP series but I thought it would be better than Prince of Tennis and more or less similar to Slam dunk but with an unconventional main character.

I prefer Baby Steps and HQ because they are more down to earth without the whole 'super' powers from the MC and what not. Also I can relate to poor Hinata because I get motion sickness too and can only deal with it by taking medication constantly if I'm riding.

I think in general, sports animes are successful because 1) almost everyone can relate to working hard on a team, if not necessarily in a sport. People generally know what its like to give something your all, to win or to lose. To graduate and leave a section of your life behind, to have people older than you teach and lead you, etc. And 2) sports animes don't have to waste time on world-building or anything like that, so there's extra time for MEGA character development. They explore interpersonal relationships within a context any regular person can imagine/understand.

Basically they are super relatable and easy to get invested in.

Further, they have a lot of popularity in Japan because the "morals" and such that they teach fall in line really well with Japanese ideals/etic. Hard work trumps natural talent, even an underdog can win with hard work and determination, etc.

Good thing that you've done some different outfits already! I'd love to see pre-cycling Arakita, for example. The school uniforms are also nice and not as much cosplayed. And the yukatas! I love sports anime, and how ridiculous it can get in terms of sports 'moves' is part of that, but I have to admit I find more realistic ones keep my attention longer in the end. I'm currently loving Daiya no A (one of the most realistic - so far anyway - out there i reckon) and Chihayafuru (a shoujo approach to sports/card game anime, so refreshing, damn).

My friends and I gave up the whole cosplaying who other people aren't deal a long time ago because yowapeda a spiked in popularity, but there are so many people I barely see. The problem is they sometimes don't get recognized easily either. Most of the characters wear asics so you're good there, but court shoes aren't really meant for jogging, especially not outdoors. They do really well for the con floor though. I'm leaning towards top left for yellow undertones. The others are tending towards pretty cool and won't play as nice with warm skin plus I've never read his hair as silver per se (I might be a minority there from what I've seen). I love sports anime so much, but have never cosplayed from it yet, thankfully; I'm not huge or anything, but I can imagine how shit I would have looked especially when I was younger and most of my cosplays were awkward as fuck. I'm going to cosplay a female version of Asahi (use my own hair and a headband) at the end of this year, IF I'm fit enough by then. On a lot of the taobao costumes the shorts are waaaaay too long and make it really hard to make the costume look right, pic related.

If I have the shirt tucked in with the shorts sitting where I usually have them, it looks like old man pants. If I have them at my hips like in the anime, the shorts come past my knees. It might just be because I'm short as hell though

it's pretty good! Naruko's spikes are a little less curly, though-- they stick straight out from his head and don't really curve. you can accomplish this by spraying the spike, pulling gently on it to straighten it out, and then blow-drying it while it's held out. in addition, even though he's young, you can definitely still do a little contouring to make your face look a little more masculine! He has pretty angular features so sharpening up your jaw, contouring your nose, and doing some cheekbone shading will help you "pass" a little better. making the side pieces curve/frame your face less will also help, since I think it's making your face look a little rounder as it is now. overall though I think you make a good naruko!!

yEAH IT WAS SO HUGE WHEN I WAS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL but now you only see a few here and there. Prince of Tennis was really the first sport series where (in japan and the US) girls starting getting really into and shipping all the boys hard core. it kind of set the pace for the future of shounen ai undertones in sports anime. now its hard to find a sports anime that doesn't play to the fujoshi fangirls at least a little bit (not that I mind)

the lenses are circle lenses but I agree a larger diameter would be ideal! I have 2 other pairs of green lenses that are a less accurate color but I may try them out. definitely agree on the lashes though! I didn't spend nearly as much time on my makeup as I would've liked since I was kind of hurrying out the door to the shoot.

you're right, it's a little dark, though it looks darker than it is in this lighting. it was hard to find a completely accurate purple and it doesn't really exist in the chibi (since I wanted a pigtail wig). it looks a lot better in really bright light though!

It's horrible I'm kind of upset I donated my copy to the library. I think it takes place in Germany, because I remember being very confused by the school system since the one girl was 19. Also they allowed coed sports in the highschool or whatever? But also various characters were obviously based off of Final Fantasy characters, like the one chick was lolita Yuffie and loser Squal. The main girl also had a "dramatic" past with some dude and seeing him at the soccer game made her have a panic attack and they had to call an ambulance? Also the lolita chick made everyone special snowflake uniforms that matched everyone's personality. And none of them wore shinguards.
