What is a good material to make a metal collar kinda like the ones they used in Egypt?

How about wrist bands like this as well?

Without a picture for reference, I'm not 100% sure exactly what you want to make, but you could probably make them out of leather or craft foam (the kind used for cosplay armor, and go through the initial process of sealing/prepping it for paint) and then use gold/silver leaf to make it look like metal? Leaf is a little pricey but not too bad, and the results look more realistic than metallic spray paint IMO.

My question (which is more j fashion/ normalfag fashion than cosplay, sorry!) - I have a pair of older Mudd platform shoes similar to these that I picked up at a thrift shop recently and absolutely love. But they're pleather, and because they're old, the pleather's surface is starting to crack around the toes.

Would leather paint (the kind cosplayers suggest for painting shoes) work to kind of...seal them while still remaining flexible? I was also considering something like that spray on "Flexi-Seal" stuff that's sold on TV (since it comes in black) or maybe even plasti-dip?

I'll be really sad if I have to get rid of these. They're so comfy and cute.

With sweet it is a lot of how the garment is designed that makes it look sweet even in black. I do not think this exists so much with classic as the actual design of the garments are similar in the toned down sense. So it would go down to the indiv dress and if it is themed in a more gothic way or not, or then if the person themselves wears it on the gothic side. or not. There are outfits that I can see go either way depending on the styling for sure.

Those characters have a bit more of a boyish cut instead of a girlier one which goes longer on the sides. I looked up the wigs and the only wigs that come up are round bowlish cuts.

I used the anime database with the option of hair above the shoulder in black but waay too many came up. Most of the ones I found that matched were very dark characters. I wish they had a way to filter the results with older anime to newest since this style has been used more lately.

I don't know how to blend latex prostetics.

I'm doing terminator face bits, but i've never applied any sort of makeup before. I've seen tutorials on how to make it look bruised, i've seen tutorials on how to make it look flush(which i'll use) but i've seen nothing on how to blend it in with your own skin.

I'll be wearing it in very hot weather, so sweat is an issue. What makeup do I need to buy? Just foundation? Liquid? Powder? Something else i haven't heard of? I just need help making it the same color as my skin.

If you're good at really precise cutting, you can sew strips together (though her skirt looks more like a circle skirt, so you'd be cutting and sewing together progressively larger circles to get the stripe effect).
If you're good at topstitching, you can layer the darker pink and purple tones on top of a light pink base with a satin stitch (ie applique stitching).

What's the cosplay? It sounds like you want to get muslin cloth. Actual fabric in the Utility Fabrics section at Jo-Ann is more like burlap and rip-stop nylon and nothing you really want to use as apparel.

>fabric experts
If you're thinking of the employees at Jo-Ann, they're not required to know any bit of sewing or fabrics to get the minimum wage job. Chances are, they don't know any better than you do other than to encourage you to buy more than you need.

if you're worried about indecent exposure, wear a blue zentai/morphsuit. That way if the sash falls it's no big deal.

For the sash, try to reinforce it with wire so you can get that look. But she's laying down in the picture, do you have something with the character standing?

He. But you know how it is with anime and gender-variance.

Also, that character floats around but due to the practical realities of cosplay I'm going to need to wear shoes so for creative improvisation/interpretation I'm thinking of wearing geta.

Satin and sateen are weaves with some slight stretch not like a knit, but more then a plain weave. It comes from satin having warp floats over weft threads. 2) Use the Nyx jumbo eye pencil in black bean as your base ( http://www.nyxcosmetics.com/p-6-jumbo-eye-pencil.aspx )

3) Finally, set it with a black matte eyeshadow on top. ( http://www.nyxcosmetics.com/p-230-hot-singles-eye-shadow.aspx in raven black)

I've used similar things with just my eyeshadow (UDPP, Nyx MILK + shadow on top) and have never had an issue with it smudging or fading throughout an entire day. I'd imagine with the same products you can do your whole eye area.

That's kinda what I thought at first too, but thinking about it, it's kinda hard to really capture Meg. Yeah, a fancier dress, some actual hair stuff being done, and stuff like that would make it a proper cosplay instead of putting it on her blog as some cheap knockoff closet cosplay thing, but it feels like half of Meg's costume in particular is in the face. A nice dress and a bunch of hair ornaments still doesn't really remind you much of the character, unlike someone with recognizable uncommon features like Rapunzel's hair, Snow White's particular dress, Cinderella's ensemble, Alice's Dress, etc.

Suggestions to take a dress like that to better Disneybounding instead of "I put on a purple dress and purple eyeshadow":
>wear a dark purple headband
>incorporate the dark purple on the original dress into a belt or waist sash
>add large chunky gold jewellery to reference the gold details on Meg's dress

What event/occasion are you attending that you don't want to look like you're cosplaying? Conventions are cosplay hotspots, even in the US. If you're just going to a casual event (theme park, teahouse, comic book store) and you want recommendations for casual cosplay, make a post in the suggestions thread and ask specifically for casual/streetwear cosplay. IMO though, trying to come up with a translated version of an outfit is easier if it's a character you've personally picked out from media you're familiar with. If you come back to the thread with two or three characters for whom you'd want to simplify the costumes down, you'll probably get better answers.

And anime characters have casual clothing, too (pic related, though I'm not familiar with NGE so I don't know about her accuracy).

Squishy furniture that you can carve down into shape, cover (with model magic? resin? not familiar with this; there are probably results for "furniture foam prop tutorial") or expanding foam (in the spray cans) on a cardboard that also gets carved down into shape. Though since I'm a cheap bastard, I'd probably consider build the backpack portion out of cut cardboard panels, seal it with lots of masking tape and hot glue, and build the details up with foamboard (like the foldout boards you'd use in a school science presentation).

I've got quite a few questions. I'm thinking of making this design of Jolyne.

Do most people interpret Jolyne's pants as leggings/tight pants or loose pants? I thought that they were more of loose pants, but I've seen a lot of people use tight pants/leggings for cosplaying Jolyne. I'd like to go the loose pants route, but I'm thinking that it might be more difficult to do the cutouts on the side of the leg in pic related that way.

Also, what color wig should I use for the base of Jolyne's wig? I usually interpret hair with this kind of coloring as straight black hair, but the blue highlights in her hair seem to match the rest of her outfit/makeup. I was wondering if I should use a pure black wig, Arda's Dark Blue or Raven, or Epic's Midnight Blue. I also don't know how bright/dark of blues I should use for the fabric and lipstick.

I'm not sure what's happening in the later steps.
1. Make a base with cloth and turn it into a pattern. Since it's going to be hot-glued, use lion board. [That's only sold in Japan, but other materials should work]
2. Cut out the board slightly bigger than the pattern and trim it until it's the right size. Since it's going to be covered by foam, it should be smaller than you want. Put it on your body to check.
3. Cut out polyurethane foam slightly bigger than the board.
4. Hot glue the foam to the board evenly, at the edges. Try to get a round shape.
5. Pin 2 way stretch fabric to each boob one at a time, then pull back and hot glue the fabric at the thick parts [?]. Do it all at once while considering the pins. I was worried about the strength of my fabric.
6. Make a strap. Attach the hooks to another piece of fabric, then sew into tubes. [Like this, http://www.tezukuritown.com/lesson/sew/basic/s_fukuro.html]. Put in 2mm foam underneath the hooks and use a zigzag stitch to secure.
7. Cut off extra fabric where you glued, then glue together the boobs and reinforce the part where they join. I usually only use one piece of fabric, but because I used thin fabric this time, I sewed another piece of fabric on the underside.
8. Put synthetic leather through the neck strap. Attach the chest strap you made earlier.
9. Attach a fastener to the neck strap and you're done.

Why not go straight for a crinoline/cage skirt? They don't deflate no matter how heavy the skirt.

You do still need a "petticoat" between the crinoline and your actual skirt because the crinoline frame tends to show up as bumps in the skirt, but just a few limp layers of tulle or even heavy cotton ought to take care of that, and you can sew the roses to the "petticoat".

Can be a lot of things. Troubleshoot each possibility on a regular, mediumweight woven fabric until you get the thread tension right and then go back to what you have in the photo (a thicker fabric?).

You don't have to go in this order.
>1) Is the top bobbin thread correctly threaded through all of its slots/twists/turns
>2) Is the bottom bobbin correctly loaded
>3) Check top thread tension
>4) Check bottom thread tension
>5) Try another bobbin
