Is art bovine acting up for anyone else? The apparel design works great for every other article of clothing except the skater dress, which claims I need to instal silverlight. Which I've already done. Several times. I don't know what's wrong and it's really frustrating.

Whats the best way to ship large posters? I've shipped it in triangular tubes and they have been stomped on and smashed. I shipped it in a long box and it still gets karate chopped to become a 'V' shape, what to do? I order from ULINE and I have a 3% complain rate about posters being dented. Circular tubes are super expensive, anyone ships a hundreds of posters on a daily basis with no complaints about breaking?

What size are you trying to ship?

I've successfully shipped 11x17 posters in stay flat mailers, sandwiched between two pieces of chipboard [sent 3 places in US, pretty far from each other]. Overkill and not THE CHEAPEST, but my prints are done on thick cardstock and CANNOT be rolled up. That and I care about the quality of my junk getting to someone who has decided to buy it. Shipping only came out to about 4 something [nearly 5] with First Class USPS.

I'm selling tote bags at a con next week and I really would appreciate some help with pricing.

They're screen printed with some cute and not overly complicated designs [no pics because I'm not getting up right now], the print takes up from 1/3 to 1/2 of the bag panel, and it's a $2 base 12 oz canvas tote bag.

I'm thinking either $10 or $12, but I have no idea since I would easily pay either price but I don't know what the common folks would.

ALRIGHT. Welp, at this points tubes are just going to be your best bet even if they can be expensive. Unless you're willing to sell folded posters — which depending on the design can be a thing — but in general no.

Your posters are just two big for anything flat unless someone is willing to pay top $$.

If you're selling posters of that size, hopefully you're making good money off of them, yeah? At that point, I'd say tubes would be an investment if you're really worried about that 3%. Outside of that, unless you find some way of stuffing the triangle shipping boxes with something to prevent anal tearing of the posters — good luck [sorry for not being much help].

extremely dumb question here.

i see lots of people sell prints, buttons and stuff like that with characters based on video games, anime, cartoons, etc. so obviously thats legal to do.
when does it get to the point where it ends up becoming copyright infringement?
i dont know much about the laws when it comes to these kinda things. im aware of the whole "fair use because its fanart" kinda deal but that just seems like such a grey area.

anyways, the reason why im asking this is because i want to sell something like faux amiibo like statues. basically just tiny resin statues that are the same size as those amiibos but with other video game/cartoon characters.

I've been selling stuff with characters on it for a fair few years now, never had any issues. I only make a few of each piece rather than "mass producing" them, so I don't really make a whole lot of money from each sale. If i'm ever doubt over something, I just don't make it or sell it. I know people who have actually ended up being approached by companies because their work was selling so well and been asked to commission pieces for them, it really varies depending on which company owns the rights. Disney are notorious for basically having an almost zero-tolerance policy when it comes to people using their property.

Only some cons implement a 50/50 (or other percentage) rule, so depends where you're going. I wouldn't worry about it too much, especially if you're going to be selling fanart rather than actual direct ripoffs of official sprites/artwork.

Also, I think there are some companies (like Disney as some others were saying, and possibly Homestuck? I'm not into it) which are more strict about this stuff so maybe research a little bit about the fandoms you're doing if you're really concerned, idk.

Does anyone have any opinions on stickers vs keychains? (I posted on the last thread but it got archived lmao) I would love to get my art on both stickers and keychains, but that's kind of impractical so I'm wondering what other people are inclined to buy. Personally, I love stickers but don't really buy them because they're too precious to use LOL.
Anyway, for stickers, I'm thinking something like a 5x7" kiss cut sheet of various characters, and then for charms, maybe like 2" (looking at Vograce atm).

I ship in really mini bubble mailers but I always feel bad when people just want to buy one button and the shipping is like...more than the price of the button lol. I think both is okay if you want/can, I've seen people do that before. I've bought, for example, a small sticker sheet which was like a collection of all the charms they'd done plus a few extra props, and also a nice matching charm of my favorite character. I don't know how common it is though.

Speaking of acrylic charms, does anyone here have any experience with selling them, either online or at conventions?
Are they marketed any differently from your other kinds of merch and how much more/less of a profit is it for you?

And considering suoppliers, I've seen differing reviews in terms of service and quality from both Inkitlabs and Zap! Creatives, but I've also seen cheaper alternatives such as chillypig creations, with Inkitlabs being of probably the highest quality but also priciest. What are everyone's thoughts on these services?

look man, your art isnt BAD, but it just would not sell well at an anime convention. People there are mainly looking for super weeby prints. Heck I've seen comic book artists at anime cons who fail, your stuff would do worse.

Now if you want to take your talent and try to draw some standard anime things, it might work out. Your compositions have interesting ideas around them, but the lack of "anime style" especially at an anime convention wouldn't work out.

Montreal is my home city so I would want to attend whatever they offer there.

The legs look odd, from this angle the left leg is supposed to be less visible when sitting down. She looks like she's levitating above the chair, you need to soften the lines and make it look like there's contact and she isn't just pasted onto the chair. The two objects need to interact.

The other girl's eyes are too far down, something looks off.

The whole thing needs more depth but I'm sure you can fix that and add dimension as you go along, so that's not really a critique, more like a thing to pay special attention to in the future.

Thought you guys would be interested, but she confronted me this weekend about my apparent trash talking to her on tumblr and what not. So how did my Fanime and Animazement friends do?

I did wonderful at Animazement. Sold a ton of Pacific Rim and sold out of a Steven Universe print. Charms sells picked up on day 2 and had a lot of repeat customers coming back to buy stuff on later days. I got to hang out with a ton of my con friends too and it was a great weekend.

Tank from art bovine came in today! Maybe it's because a lot of the design I got printed has a lot of white, but the tank is really see through. The quality of the printing is nice, but a lot of it got cropped off. I kept everything within the bleed areas on the template given, but I would say more than an inch was cut off on the sides. This probably has something to do with me getting the XS size, so a warning to everybody who's getting a tank printed, watch out for sizes!

There is also a small stain in the middle of the tank, I'm going to try and wash it out, but I'm afraid it was an error with the printing. Everything aside, not bad for $1, but definitely not worth the full price it is normally. (Also I am aware of how weeby and mangled the Japanese is, this was just something I got made for fun)

If your display tubes are smaller, it helps to grind down the little things that stick out on the side of the metal stick so that the tubes go down easier.

Depends on what you're displaying. You get more height with PVC pipes/Photo stands, so they're generally better for prints, especially large ones.

If you've got more smaller things, crafts, or smaller prints (like 8x10's and just a few 11x17s), wire grids are probably better. After a certain point, they just get too unwieldy when you stack them too high, which doesn't make them super great for larger prints (11x17 or bigger)

It's my first time making stuff for getting a table sometime next year. I'm trying to make some prints as well as some hand crafted things (I like to make lolita/cute accessories). And am planning to do a 50/50 on anime stuff and handmade/wearables.

When it was your first con, how much did you spend on printing? How much stock did you make?

I'm kind of lost because I don't want to make too much where I dont break even and have a bunch of stock around. But I also don't want to have too little in case things do go well. Should I go for the minimum printing of buttons/charms (50) and just start there?

It seems like you'll always get asked for variants/ones that you are missing, and there'll only be a (relative) few that are consistently popular.

If you're selling online/printing on demand it might not be that bad, but lugging all those pokemon stickers and buttons around to cons would be really inconvenient.

Your mileage may vary, though! If you marketed it right or it was your niche it could be insanely popular. It's really hard to tell the outcome before you just do it, unfortunately.

Has anyone shared a table before?
I've never been in the artist alley before, but I'm really interested in it. For my first time, I think I'd be more confident in sharing a table. Like with a friend, either splitting days or just selling some merch at their table.
Thoughts on Moomin items? Most things sold are either of Japanese or American origin, and we have some idea about how that's treated in a legal sense.

Yep, definitely. Just make sure to share with a friend and be prepared to be flexible. I've never had a problem sharing, but I also only share with close friends. Sometimes it helps to convince deals across both of your sections.

Just don't combine sales (I.e if you sell a ten dollar print, you split it five dollars to each person) because that's kind of unfair, especially if one person sells more inventory than the other. It sounds crazy, but I've heard about people in these threads doing it and for some reason newbie artists think it's a good idea, so just a precaution

Yikes. You seem to be struggling with anatomy and stylization. Your colors look decent but you definitely need to be more considerate of how bodies are constructed - the demon girl in upper left has a torso that's almost painful to look at. Blue lines girl looks like she has stumpy midget arms and her waist does not seem to properly connect to her hips. Anime deer girl has breasts that look oddly shaped for her pose, with her arms up they should be lifted a bit and shaped a bit more like teardrops, and perhaps spaced out a bit more.

Lower left - why are her hips shaped differently?

Lower right - why are her breasts shaped like she's not wearing a top, when she is?

Overall I'm getting the impression that you heavily reference photos and alter them as you go to fit what you want to draw.

Middle bottom is pretty cute though.

Tbh while the critiques already given are all valid I wouldn't let it dissuade you from trying an AA if you want to. I have seen such shit sell and sell well at AAs and you may not be pro but I feel like you're decent enough to attract some people's attention if they like the subject matter. Perhaps try some cons more centred around western fandoms, fantasy or gaming rather than anime ones?

Really this is the problem I have with people coming here asking "am I good enough for AA!!!!" it doesn't matter just give it a shot and see, the public is fickle and sometimes even garbage sells lol

I wouldn't attempt to enforce my own copyright upon a cookbook like that when alot of the base designs deal with copyright from pokemon itself I would think

And they don't offer clear as far as I know, and I don't know of any alibaba places that do. I believe Digit posted a Taobao printer last time but I'm not sure if that got added to the resource thread just yet. The epoxy, from my understanding, is better for double sided? I can't remember much else about it.

And no, when they say MOQ is 1 they mean 1. The lowest I've quoted them for is 15pcs and even then I think it was maybe $1 a piece? But getting more will def lower the cost per piece and make your overhead lower, but if you just want samples I don't think that's too bad a cost either.
