It's been a while since we had one.

Is it true Classical Puppet's petticoats are getting worse and worse? All the petticoats I have are heavily modified cheap amazon ones because im cheap as hell

>> No.8339670

>>8339621
That's what I heard.
Anyway, question: I got a nice petticoat secondhand, it's super soft, and just one layer, which is perfect for casual stuff. The problem is, the elastic is completely dead, and I'm not sure of the best way to replace it. It's long enough that I can fold over the top bit, could I do that and then thread an elastic through there? How can I keep it from bunching on one side?

>> No.8339675

>>8339670
Why not just seam rip and replace the elastic? Or is the elastic uncovered?

The cosplays I make that require petticoats tend to be too short to use my Classical Puppets petticoat with. Is there a recommended shorter bell petti I could purchase anywhere?

Perhaps you can sew another (similar) long piece of fabric around the top to make a new case and insert elastic there. If it's too fragile to seam-rip the original dead elastic out, it might be okay to leave it there.

Honestly, I was really pleased with my CP pettis. I have two of them, the everyday wear and the normal wear (bell shape). I had bought their A-line and the poof was so insane that I had to sell it, since I like lower poof, so when I got the everyday wear it was perfect. It has deflated a bit since I've got it and I've worn it many times, but that is good since I use it for more conservative classic. The normal wear doesn't seem like it was ever much poofier, but it has fine poof and I'd say it's on par with the everyday wear pre-deflation. I use them for classic, so it's the perfect amount for me, but I wouldn't advise them for insane poof sweet, unless you stack two which gives you an ungodly amount of poof. I've worn both many times over the past year or so.

I have their a-line and bell. The a-line has retained its poof very well, and it's very poofy. The bell has deflated considerably, but when it was brand new it had the loveliest bell shape. Nowadays if I want more poof I layer it over the vgd petti.

I got 3 pettis from CP in November (2bell and 1A-line) all had pretty good poof, especially the a-line.
I think the quality 'decline' is to do with their rise in popularity resulting in them expanding too quickly. The more you make, the harder it is to quality control and mistakes are inevitable. I think it's just some duff batches every so often. It's the luck of the draw really. This is less a lolita question and more a cosplay question, but thank goodness for this thread.

I'm in need of a red petticoat for Kyary's "Kisekae"/a.k.a. that Nintendo 3DS outfit, but most of my search results have seemed rather flat in comparison to the amount of ruffles she has. I've had it for three years now and it has slightly deflated because of multiple stuffing into bags and suitcases for trips and being worn under heavier dresses, but I'd definitely recommend it.

I'm thinking of getting a Bunny House petticoat (size large) for those heavier dresses (lots of ruffles like BL's Cameo OP and some twill items from AP). Good or bad idea? I don't need runway-tier poof, but I'm not aiming for casual poof either.

Some thoughts on my-lolita-dress

>For the first taobao order and especially when you're ordering alone my-lolita-dress is the only source I trust completely. They're shipping costs are with some other ss the lowest (I'm stingy af so I compared like crazy) and they're super fast with answers and shipping. When you're doing a group order, a regular SS could be the cheaper way though.

>About the prices...I don't get the problem. They add usually 15% to the original price but you don't have to pay the PP fees, they're included in the 15%.

>Other SS add 10% to your order and you have to pay 3-5% PP fees. And I don't know if I remember correclty but most other SS apply the 10% even to shipping, what Linda doesn't do when you order trough her shop.

tl;dr: It COULD get 5-10$ more every 100-150$ you order but for me the service and simlicity is worth it, especially when ordering alone.
>And shipping was every three times fast af. 5-7 days. Without customs.

>> No.8343240

>>8343222
The difference between a group order and single order is quantity right? What maximum amount of items/value do you think should be the cut off before I go to a different service?

>> No.8343243

>>8343240
Group orders just save on shipping costs because they're split between the group. The more people you have, the higher the overall weight, and the more ways the cost can be split. It's good because the first KG is the most expensive and then every kg after that is cheaper.
I wouldn't say MLD are cheaper on shipping since most SS offer more economical shipping options like SAL (though I heard MLD are considering Airmail?). Basically, if you're getting a lot of stuff (a few dresses, some blouses, accessories) go for a SS because they'll save you on the markup, because $15-30 extra each time all adds up, especially with shipping added on. I'd only use resellers if I was maybe buying one item that I a) need quickly or b) was since out of stock

>> No.8343247

>>8343240
The 'problem' about taobao/china orders are the high shipping costs. Let's explain with some maths:
>First 500g is 30$ shipping
>Next 500g is additional 20$ shipping
>But then the next 100g are only additional 2$

The prices are made up, but you get the point. The more you order the cheaper the shipping cost get for each individual. Going from 3 people are ordering 1 dress which weights 500g each, one person has to pay 30$ but within the group each one has to pay only 20$. If 4 people order the dress each one has to pay even only 17.5$ and so on.
In this calculation that'd be only 10$/12.5$ off but usually group orders are huuuuuge.

So it's not only quantitiy but when you need a lot of small items I guess a group order would be better than ordering alone. Especially when you all just order light weighted things (because the first scalings of EMS shippings are expensive).

I hope this is alright and understable. I did my best!

>But after all, taobao orders will be depressing because a 2$ item can become a 20$ item...

>> No.8343249

>>8343243
Ah, didn't think about the SS offering SAL. I just compared EMS because I hate to wait.

But to get back to topic: Where I live ordering the petticoat shown in OP's post would be more cheaper trough MLD than trough other SSs (with EMS shipping)

Ok! So I should aim for below a kg for their kind of service? I want to place an order that's a dress, blouse, a pair of shoes and a bunch of cute home organization things. So then I'd be better off using an SS - because I dont have any friends or local people who trust Taobao to bulk order with.

I would think so, or if it's just a very small amount of items. Keep in mind shoes weigh a lot so they can bring up your shipping quote quite a bit (most are like 1.5kg+ per pair) but if you've got loads of other things then it can even out. The way I like to think of it is if I spend say £40 on shipping and I've ordered 15 items, that would only be £2.66 per item. I'm frugal so I always use the cheaper shipping methods like SAL (which usually gets to me within 2 weeks anyway)

Petticoat question!

The skirt on this is 70cm long, and all my pettis are about 40cm. Should I get a 70cm long petticoat for this? (or maybe 60cm so I could wear it with other high waisted dresses I own)

>> No.8351880

>>8351871

65-68cm. Your petticoat should be 1-2in shorter than your skirt. 10cm difference will give you petticoat droop.

If you have a stiff long underskirt you can try it first and see how it holds the shape. For eg Little Dipper's underskirts can hold a little shape, though the poof will be very flat. Infanta's underskirts will hold nothing at all.

I figured that 60cm would droop, I need to stop buying stuff with vastly different skirt lengths. I've been considering getting the Infanta underskirt, but if it doesn't really provide any poof I'll probably get a Little Dipper one instead.

Did you buy the violent proof one? I got an A-line one and it's way too poofy. I am not sure how to use it under my dresses since they are not that heavy. Is there a way to kill the poof a bit or should I just get the smaller version?

>> No.8351939

>>8351880
Isn't that just wrong though? You don't need to wear the petti where the skirt starts. You can and often should wear it lower. Or are you suggesting to wear the petti on her underbust?

>> No.8351944

>>8351939

Did I misread something? The skirt is 70cm long. Seeing as most waistbands are usually only 1 inch tall, if you wear the petti just below where the skirt starts, then it should be 1-2inches shorter than the skirt? At 10cm (about 4 inches) she'll need to wear the petti around her hips, which means the entire top half of her skirt would be flat?

>> No.8351959

>>8351939
I've tried wearing a petticoat lower than where the skirt starts and like >>8351944 said, the top part of the skirt was flat and looked pretty goofy. Granted it was with a CP bell petti so it was much shorter, but I'd still want to avoid having too big of gap between skirt length and petticoat length.

>> No.8351964

>>8351935

Yeah I think that's they one I have. It's nice for this one heavy dress I have, but it's just too much for most of my items. I only wear gothic so the excessive poof just doesn't look right.

I'm not sure how to reduce the poof... I lay my petticoats flat to store them, so maybe I'll just put stuff on top of it to flatten it a little.

>> No.8352138

>>8351944
I hope I don't misunderstand you but you're suggesting a 68cm petticoat for a 70cm skirt which means you'd have to wear the petti right on your ribcage?
It probably won't work with a bell shapes one but you can wear an A-shape lower than the top of the skirt without the part above the skirt clinging to your body. I usually don't wear my petti right on the waist for just waist skirts but as low as possible. It still poofs.

>> No.8352144

How best to store petticoats? I've got quite a large collection and I don't have enough drawer space for them anymore. I have A-line, bell-shaped, various poofs, wired, hoop skirts, adjustable, bustle etc. Often with duplicates in 3-4 colors each. Plastic tubs would be ugly and out of place, shoe organizers would squish them too much. Do I just need to suck it up and buy a new closet or make more space? I just want a pretty way to organize and display my various pettis.

Ah, I get it now, you're trying to hint that the dress is high-waisted? I did mistake it for a normal-waisted tea-length dress, so I thought both the skirt and petticoat would be worn at the waist.

On the other hand, I do indeed wear my petticoat on my ribcage for my empire-waist dresses. I usually tuck it into the bottom of my bra to keep them up. Of course some stiffer dresses look all right with the petticoat worn at the waist, but some of the really soft, limp dresses do look better with the petticoat worn higher up (eg- AP chiffon dresses).

Does that help clear things up?

I have one of those pop-up laundry things from Lidl as they were selling HK ones cheap. They can be chucked in there quickly and it doesn't take up lots of floor space but won't get too squished. I have a pretty small room and about 7 pettis of varying poof/size/shape

Get a cheap, shorter petti above the one you pulled down the reach the hemline. If the fabric is thin and it would look 'lumpy' like that, a long petti topmost for smooth shape with shorter ones for volume works. Think like an umbrella.

To give you some perspective, the petticoats travelled tightly stuffed into a bag for one or two weeks from China to you when you bought it, it doesn't hurt their poof at all.

Organdy petticoats do eventually deflate over time, mostly due to the fibres wearing out and becoming softer. Being squished into a ziplock bag for a few days doesn't really hurt them though.

Malco Modes 'Michelle' or Dear Celien Frothy Mk2?

I already have a Mk1 Frothy, but it's some ~6 years old and starting to deflate. Still a fantastic petti and I'd like to layer it with the new one for extra poof.

Malco Modes' pettis seem like a very strange shape, even for A-lines. And they're only two layers? But I keep hearing amazing things about them.

This happened to a friend I did a group order with. When we opened the petti, it had already torn at the seams. She fixed it but every time she wore it it tore more and more. It basically was shit and fell apart. It was a white CP bell shaped petti, and this was about 3-4 years ago. On the other hand, I got a black version of the same one, and it never tore, even with rough wear, and is still poofy to this day. I think the materials used in the black and white pettis are different. The white organdy(?) felt much thinner and lighter than the black.

I pull it over my hips, asjust the elastic on my waist, let go and then shake my hips a bit so everything just falls into place. To adjust the poof during the day I pull up my whole dress in the bathroom and adjust the elastic on my waist. I am not pulling at the organza, but it completely detached from the waistband and every layer detached from the next layer.

When I got my petti, I got a light teal colored one. I thought the color was cute and figured it didn't matter because it wouldn't be visible anyway. But now I wish I would have gotten a white one so bad because it would look more "traditional" and if for some reason would flash, it would match whatever I was wearing. I'm finding that I'm getting more and more into simpler, older-school looks, so the overly colorful sweet stuff is no longer appealing to me and that includes colored petticoats (I still like them but don't need them for myself). I can't justify getting a new one in white and the funds are low so I just keep regretting my choice to not get a white one in the first place.
