Last thread in autosage. Stories, pictures, overall thoughts on the con as a whole.

Other than my problems with the embassy, i felt the convention was just lacking this year. Was the con center itself smaller? It really felt smaller. On saturday all the aisles were completely crowded. I didn't have these issues last year. I did get to meet up with more people. Photoshoots had hardly any people. Also, can someone confirm what caused the fire alarm? I heard it was because the smoke machines and the hotel didnt shut the detectors off.
Only weird story i have is from a friend of mine

few hours later

I got to see these texts. Needless to say this guy gets the weirdest shit happen to him.

I really enjoyed the kancolle panel. Wish I wasn't late and missed the first 20 or so mins. They were cosplaying as Kongou, TTK, and Hiei and really knew their shit and loved the game. The audience was also very interactive too and them playing the game showing us and sharing their stories of events and stuff was really fun. Pretty much my own favorite panel of the con.

Didn't get much since I underestimated how much the whole trip would be. I also got a couple posters, but I'm leaving them in my car and my Sayaka (that I FINALLY found new since getting into nendos) I'm leaving in the box for now since I'm moving in a couple days. Here's my con haul. I wanted to focus more on clothes this year, and I considered getting another super action statue until all the heirophant ones were $70. Got all this along with a free jojo poster and a Detective Conan figure as a graduation gift for a friend.

Anyway, I posted my main get yesterday but might as well put it all in an album for kicks:

The con overall... well, coming from Youmacon, the game room was 100% dissappointment. Not only was it absolutely tiny, and with a smaller selection, the arcade room was 50 cents per play. The fuck guys, put that shit on freeplay.
The panel selection was kinda bunk. I mostly hung around with the guys I was staying with since it was our first time meeting up face to face, but I didn't feel bad for missing a single panel besides the first 07th Expansion one, which I missed due to traffic on the drive down. So many were cancelled too. They were mostly uninteresting, of course, but still.

Honestly, though, I had a blast and look forward to attempting to attend next year, too. The level of cosplay seemed to be somewhat higher, the thrill of being somewhere new in and of itself, and the people were really nice and sociable. I'm not used to being able to just strike up convos with random strangers like that, it was pretty cool.

I felt so uncomfortable at the game room compared to the one at ASTL. You couldn't bring in any bags and you had to give up your own badge just to have a controller. Another con I went to they had almost all the games downloaded onto the console and the controllers were already there. (granted they were keylocked to it). I agree on the arcade games. Fuck that.

Nope. No pics at all. Like I said so little people actually recognized me and no one took any pics except for that smt photoshoot. I don't think it was by any means a bad cosplay, I had a blue razr phone, the white jacket with bunny ear hood and even the mp3 player. Guess its just that obscure. Oh well. I still enjoyed being Hibiki and I still enjoyed talking smt and desu with those who did recognize me.

Also I did rack up a ton of street passes. Megrez has never been so easy, well except those times on ng+ back then but you get the point.

I was going to cosplay Jotaro but then ruined the pants for it at the Midwest Media Expo by posing. Thank god I didn't with this humidity. The photoshoot was tons of fun to watch and make stupid jokes at.

So it wasn't just me. Aside from 50% off, a fanfiction panel, and maybe 1 more I can't remember, I didn't really care about everything else.

Garzey's Wing is comedy gold but given the time, crowd, and smallness of the projector screen, it would have been better in one of the smaller panel rooms on the lower floors. The crowd going nuts and screaming was not a pleasure to listen to with such a loud echo off the tall walls. Went to the shibari panel once and was able to see everything despite being in the back row in a room near max capacity.

The only problem with doing a Jojo from Part 5 onward is that I don't really have the body type for it; I'm a thick-cut piece of bacon and I'd need a FULL BRAZILIAN to do it any justice. Plus I want to drop, like, 5% bodyfat but I need to do that anyway.

Not to say that I won't still do it, I'll just feel dirty doing it.

for them being so strict. Sorry but saying 'I don't like eating alone' is a pretty weak argument. How hard is it to just follow what they're asking? Christ. The photoshoots are THE BEST place to get recognized and meet other fans. Posing is pretty easy for fighting games, and even if you don't know, there are many other fans that can help you out.

Don't give up, the cosplay community has too many chicks. We need more dudes like you to balance it out.

Definitely agree with the others. I was at the shoot, and I'm 30. It can be a bit daunting being around so many people (90% of which are waaay younger than you are) but the shoots are always the best place to bro it up! Well, just to explain (and rant some) it's more that I wasn't sure what to do being my age. All my friends have moved onto having kids and being "professionals" lol, and I've actually complained about it before, being straight edge and awkward makes it hard for me to be comfortable around people my own age, and I feel like a creep talking to anyone younger haha.

So it was more like I wasn't sure at ALL why I should still be going (don't go with any groups, don't talk much when there, don't even buy anything lol) like if it was worth the money for the rooms and badges. But I realized I love cosplaying and having my pictures taken is a huge confidence booster, so next year, I'm going to get out and walk around and take more pics and put myself out there rather my usual 'take a two hour break in my room between the few panels I want to see'. I love doing it, and love seeing other people who are really into it, too. Unlike you, I actually made an effort to go to more panels this year than previous years and found that it helped make the experience more enjoyable. When I'm not at a panel, though, I pretty much just walk the skyway and move from the Hyatt lobby to the DESCC looking for neat and/or lesser seen cosplays. I ask for a photo, and if the person is up for it, I chat them up about it. As long as you love it, the whole "I'm too old for this" stigma kinda washes away.

For a fun experience, try going to GenCon or another somewhat sizable tabletop convention sometime and see what it's like being on the low-end of the age scale. 20-30 is straight babyface there.

And don't be worried about your friends having homes and families, it's not good to compare yourself to your peers like that. Everyone's different, there's no real measure to success other than if you're satisfied with your life for what it is.
