trying to say she's being bullied by that is the reason why LACE and shit are so DOA in the first place. oh the poor thing, she took down a video because it didn't have the responses she wanted and some mean old youtuber put it back up baaaw.

also, no, they keep getting deleted cause the mod is a piece of shit. most of these threads have been really positive and open, you're just choosing to see what you want because you're whiteknighting and clearly aren't a regular here.

>targeted bullying
If you think that there's a such thing as non targeted 'bullying' you're part of the problem. That's not what bullying is. Being mean to someone once is not bullying, bullying is always targeted, and always repetitive. If you're so delicate that your life shatters when one person calls you out on one thing once that you have to cry bullying then you clearly need someone to help you stop caring about others.

i have been contributing regularly to each thread, offering tips on how to actually deal with actual bullies, and ignoring the petty drama talk that keeps getting the threads deleted. until this.

in my opinion the mod is too lazy to just delete individual posts. the fact that anons keep making the issue about specific "bad" lolitas who deserve what they get is why we can't have nice things.

reposting someone else's content, in the context like this where people are trying to "teach her a lesson", is harassment. it is not that complicated.

"targeted" in this case was used to distinguish it from not-actual-bullying. like saying "black coffee" since "coffee" can mean too many things, despite "black coffee" being the actual pure form that should not need a qualifier. most people imagine something weaker when the word appears alone so an extra qualifier is used to distinguish the purer form of the word from its weaker/less accurate but more popular connotation.

>> No.8307565

>>8307552
Seriously? Reuploading a video is harassment now? From my understanding, it was reuploaded to provide context for people who were new to the discussion.

Once someone puts content on the internet, they no longer have full control over it. It was posted to youtube, so it's totally fair game for others to save and reupload as they see fit. Content on the internet is going to get redistributed among other people no matter what.

If there was something in the description telling people to dislike Jillian, that would border on harassment, but there isn't. Posting content Jillian herself was willing to post at one point is not harassment. If she's claiming it is, tough. She put herself on the internet; she should be able to face the consequences.

people misuse "bullying" to mean a watered down version. this is something /cgl/ agrees on. what many LACE supporters are "against" is not actual, targeted bullying.

adding "targeted" is to prevent people from assuming the common watered down version (not actual bullying) was meant.

What exactly is wrong with this whole thing? The parody was funny and sure the original video had flaws (hence why the parody is so funny) but I disagree that bullying is something that "just happens so get over it". I mean, it does happen, and if/when it happens to you you do have to just get over it (or what... murder them? Kill yourself? Seems extreme) but that doesn't mean that we all have to accept it as a fact of life.
I don't think anyone can disagree that lolita has a bullying problem, and I think it'd be nice if it didn't. Just because that's how it is now, doesn't mean it has to always be like that. Places like /cgl/ can stay catty and bitchy... I mean that's practically what this website is made for. Every community will have it's dark corners. But it's not confined to /cgl/. As an outsider looking in, the drama and the bullying seems positively inescapable, to the point that I'm totally comfortable self-posting cosplay on here but would be hard pressed to attend a lolita meetup.

That image is someone who's body is too large proportionately for a 22inch waist to be healthy. But actually I (the poster your replying to) have a 21inch waist but because I'm shorter and more petite naturally, it's not unhealthy (I'm like 158cm)...it just means I can't fit most brand, hence my slight annoyance by her comment

I have a 20 inch waist but I'm like 5 feet tall so its a good natural size for me and I dont look too skinny. Her comment irked me for the same reasons.

The metric system is something she;s got to understand if she is buying clothes online and needing measurements. I'll be genuinely amazed if I find out she REALLY thinks she is that small. While she doesn't look fat, she isn't exactly really skinny either. Just normal, healthy size for a 17 year old who is maybe like 5'5/5'6?

Also in her KawaiiGoods revew video she mentioned the size Medium skirt fit her a little snug but was really comfy. The measurements for that size are 26" - 37" so I'm willing to be shes around the 26/27 mark (you can kinda tell from the way AP fits her too).

Sorry for the slight rant but I hate it when people lie about their size, its a pet hate of mine ><

I'm asking this with all honesty, is it possible to participate that easily in lolita fashion while NOT having much of an online presence? I mean zero profiles on tumblr, Facebook, even lacemarket. I could imagine online bullying happening if one lolita in a comm was crazy and determined enough to ruin someone else's life. "Step back and walk away from the computer” could work, but the victim might still get banned from the local comm and its sales, maybe even the online egl comm sales and lacemarket if the vendetta-chan gets hold of your cellphone like that one poster in the now-baleeted thread.

Sure, one can pull a Momoko after having your reputation tarnished and strike it out alone, and buy only direct from the brands. But I could imagine it would make the hobby more difficult for an actual victim who suffers from that level of harassment. That anon has been lucky in that she had proof to provide the comm mods and reverse their decision to ban her, and the vendetta-chan fessed up, but the fact that she ended up leaving the comm anyway sort of gives a half-victory to the vendetta-chan.

LACE may have been started as a selfish, naive attempt to form a popularity bandwagon. But I think a frank discussion about bullying could actually be more of a constructive discussion than LACE ever could be, precisely because of gulls' intolerance for BS.

Also, general discussion of keeping your info secure. Auto-lock your phones, people. The downtown area of the closest major metropolis where I live is known for thugs just walking up to people and swiping their phones, because the victims are way too absorbed in their phones to notice. I'd expect lolitas to be more vigilant of their surroundings when walking in downtown areas, but honestly you should be protective of your phone when you're in any company, even "fellow lolitas". I'm not saying be distrustful of everybody, but there are basic things to protect your privacy in this digital age when your phone is your life.

Clarification: the anon of the previous thread did NOT get banned from the egl comm sales or lacemarket. Sorry if my wording was unclear. I just meant that she got banned from the local comm, until she provided proof to its mods that vendetta-chan got hold of her phone and tried to smear her reputation. If vendetta-chan had tried to go further, theoretically she could have decided to increase the damage and make anon's ability to participate in the online secondhand markets.

I'm a lone lolita. Sometimes I go to tea parties, but nobody knows who I am. Mainly I go to those for the desserts and to meet the designers of my favorite brands. Otherwise, I don't go to meetups and I don't associate with any other lolitas. I don't do anything lolita-related on FB and I don't have a lolita tumblr. I go on /cgl/ to laugh at stupid drama like this.

I like lolita for the clothes. I see no need to craft an online persona just to suit my style of dress or go out of my way to interact with others solely based on what clothes I like to wear. I have friends at my university, and while they don't get lolita at all I wouldn't trade them for anything.

As for purchases, I try to buy direct from the brands when I can, but I also buy a lot of stuff from Japanese auctions. I'm not a fan of the western secondhand market because I've heard way too many horror stories.

So yeah, it's totally possible to participate in the fashion without having an online presence. Lolita is just clothes. The only requirement for being a lolita is wearing it.

I've been doing it for eight years now. I do have a tumblr I visit once in a blue moon but never post anything on, and get most of my community fix on /cgl/. My second-hand burando all comes from CC and Japanese auctions. Once I tried making a FB under a false name but social networking just doesn't appeal to me at all, and I got bored with it within the week. My boyfriend is completely nonexistent on social networks, too. I realize it's not for everyone but it's definitely not impossible, and I'm quite happy this way. Socialization mostly just stresses me out.

That's exactly what I said. Anon was initially banned from the local comm, and then had to provide proof to un-ban herself. Then afterwards, she left the comm on her own accord, and eventually the fashion.

It's good to hear other anons can do the lone lolita gig pretty easily. I guess then the only remaining question is how can comms recognize the crazy vendetta-chans and boot them without turning it into a witchhunt, which is what some people are afraid LACE (or any other anti-bullying movement that is organized primarily through the internet) may eventually become if its mission is not clearly defined.

Also, LACE should be careful before pointing to BtB and cgl as the root of all evil in the lolita communities. One has to take anonymous boards with a huge grain of salt. But also, some victims may only feel safe to vend about bullies on anonymous boards like this.

Does LACE remember Melissa? Melissa was booted from the SF comm because a cgl thread sparked discussion of her racist comments and even threats. But the victims only mentioned it on cgl first, because they were afraid of being called transphobic if they reported it to the SF mods. After the thread was alerted to the SF mods (who had until then never heard of this type of behavior from Melissa), a few people in the SF community actually came forward with their own accounts of Melissa's actions and comments. Looking back, Melissa seems to have shown all the actions of a bully. She kept good behavior in the presence of comm mods, and she would threaten/insult only one person at a time, with no other comm members around who could act as a third-party witness. When the mods confronted Melissa about other people's accounts, she sure enough cried transphobia. But further discussion showed that she had no idea what being trans meant. Instead Melissa was a racist, sexist sissy, who was only in the fashion because sissies get their jollies off from being degraded by "being girly."
